Getting my landscape document layouts to print properly centered on the page was a problem area for me until I figured out how to set the offsets. It was obvious that the left side of the paper was the same as the top of my edit screen and the right side of the paper was the bottom of my screen.  What befuddled my poor mind  was setting  the offsets for the
  10. right and left sides of the document in Page Setup. Finally it dawned on me.  The left margin was the bottom  of the paper and the right margin was the top of form.  How obvious!

How elegantly simple! How stupid I felt! The Page Setup Dialog Box at the right shows the offsets I found to be just right for my HP "baby" Laserjet 4L. It needed about 3/8" offsetting which is equal to 0.375 inches. Since Page Setup will not let you set any more accurately than to the nearest 1/100th of an inch added 0.37 inches
  12. to the Left Margin (bottom of the paper) and subtracted 0.37 inches from the Right Margin (top of the paper). It seemed to work but I wasn't quite sure about it until I modified the frame used for my AtariWorks Portrait Printer Alignment Aid to landscape configuration. The last line had to be set to 2 points and 7(!) carriage returns entered to get the bottom thin line to come out exact. I dumped it to my printer and scrounged up my metal ruler. When the page rolled out I applied the rule, closed my right eye, squinted the left eye and, Lo and Behold, exactly 1.0 inches all around!

Now before you think that's all there is to it. Consider this . . . If you have set up a landscape page with tabs and indents you must now offset each and every one of them by the same amount that you offset the Left Margin. The page center is not at 5.50 inches any more. It's now at 5.87 inches. Catch my drift? (Actually, I'm probably bobbing in YOUR wake!) Best bet, for me at least, is to create a blank default landscape page and a set of Paragraph/Style macros tailored to it. What you t'ink? Good idea? Go for it!
