  6.    (Author's Disclaimer: I am a practicing Wiccan, and this is what I
  7.    would do if I were initiated into the Verbena. The beliefs, practices,
  8.    etc. are based on the Witches I know, and have known, for
  9.    approximately 7 years now. Any complaints, suggestions, etc, should be
  10.    directed to the Mgt. :-) )
  11.    
  12.    The Wika are formed from a splinter group who were initially trained
  13.    by Verbena, but were appalled at the Blood Magick used by that
  14.    Tradition. The group of them formed a Coven and began training others
  15.    to use the Magick of Life in healthier fashion. Now, the Wika is one
  16.    of the smallest Traditions extant but growing vigorously.
  17.    
  18.    The Wika work toward bringing the Wiccan religion into the mainstream
  19.    of modern culture so people can see that Witchcraft is not an evil
  20.    thing. They will not reveal the practices of the Verbena to the world
  21.    because the information would simply be used to attack _them_ as well.
  22.    However, this does not prevent them from denouncing the Verbena in
  23.    front of memebers of other Traditions.
  24.    
  25.    Like the Verbena, Wikan Magick deals mostly with the natural world,
  26.    but the underlying philosophy behind this is "An' it harm none, do
  27.    what ye will." This would seem to give the Wika a non-
  28.    confrontationalist attitude, but as a matter of fact, they are quite
  29.    willing to defend other living beings from being harmed. They tend to
  30.    use effects that confuse, frighten, bind or otherwise prevent another
  31.    from carrying out their plans, but on occasion, if forced to do so,
  32.    they can be as deadly if not moreso than any of the other Traditions.

  34.    Unlike the Verbena desire to allow the body to override the mind, the
  35.    Wikans tend to feel that uniting the body and the mind, since both act
  36.    on the other, a balance must be maintained.
  37.    
  38.    The Wikans feel that Ascension can only be gained once the restrictive
  39.    Patriarchal religions have lost their yoke on the world and a more
  40.    egalitarian outlook come about. As long as imbalance, between body and
  41.    soul, male and female, or even technology and Magick exists, Ascension
  42.    cannot happen.
  43.    
  44.    Because the split occurred less than three decades ago, most of the
  45.    traditions and customs are very close to the Verbena, but the
  46.    attitudes behind them are different, so do not mistake the two.
  47.    
  48.    Philosophy: Balance is the key. Without it, we go too far in one
  49.    extreme and fall. As long as the Patriarchs continue their murderous
  50.    wars, and hateful proclamations, humanity will be denied Ascension,
  51.    tied to these unbalanced concepts. The technocracy enforces these
  52.    rigid regimes to bring about their sterile world, and in so doing,
  53.    destroys our chance to return to the Goddess.
  54.    
  55.    Organization: Like the Verbena, Wikans tend to form groups they call
  56.    Covens. They also use the word "Chantry." Numbers vary, again, and
  57.    there does not seem to be a special emphasis on number in some, and
  58.    others insist on 13. Some are female only, some are male only. A wide
  59.    variation exists, since most of the Wikans are still influenced by the
  60.    Wiccan traditions they were members of beforehand.
  61.    
  62.    Meetings: The eight Sabbats of the Year, as per the Verbena.
  63.    
  64.    Initiation: The Wikan is initiated into the Coven in much the same way
  65.    as the Verbena.
  66.    
  67.    Chantry: Wherever they manage a large meeting at Beltane. They as yet
  68.    have no fixed main Chantry.
  69.    
  70.    Acolytes: Wiccans, New Agers, scholars, fortune tellers
  71.    
  72.    Sphere: Life
  73.    
  74.    Foci:
  75.    
  76.      * Athame - Life/Mind
  77.      * Wand - Correspondence/Forces/Time
  78.      * Cup - Entropy/Spirit
  79.      * Crystal - Matter/Prime

  81.    (Note: Athame is a knife that _has never drawn blood_. It must also be
  82.    attuned to the Wikan who uses it, but doesn't really qualify as
  83.    unique. It simply means that a Wikan can't just buy a knife and use it
  84.    right away.)

  86.    Concepts: druid, witch, anthropologist
  87.    
  88.    Quote: "Some of the sleepers say we follow their Christian devil, the
  89.    Verbena say we are blind to the meaning of life. Unlike either group,
  90.    we have the respect for life that they have either forgotten or never
  91.    had."
  92.    
  93.   Stereotypes
  94.   
  95.    Akashic Brotherhood: They are too passive in their outlook, too
  96.    introspective. However, we do have some things in common, and they can
  97.    be valuable allies.
  98.    
  99.    Celestial Chorus: At the opposite extreme from the Verbena, they focus
  100.    on the mind at the expense of the flesh. On the surface they seem easy
  101.    enough to get along with, but there is something dark hidden.
  102.    
  103.    Cult of Ecstasy: They exemplify our own philosophy, as summed up "An'
  104.    it harm none, do as ye will." It is no wonder they draw ridicule, fear
  105.    and disrespect from the other Traditions. They follow their hearts.
  106.    
  107.    Discordians: Often too strange and unfocused to finish the task they
  108.    have set for themselves.
  109.    
  110.    Dreamspeakers: Possibly the group that has the most in common with us.
  111.    They quite likely cannot save Gaia without help.
  112.    
  113.    Euthanatos: Euthanasia is not necessarily evil, and death but a
  114.    transformation, but we can't help but think that they sometimes take
  115.    it too far.
  116.    
  117.    Hollow Ones: Poor lost Orphans. If only we could find them before they
  118.    start on this gloomy path.
  119.    
  120.    Order of Hermes: We can work with them as long as they do not attempt
  121.    to dominate us.
  122.    
  123.    Sons of Ether: Their illusion of technology is a crutch for their
  124.    Magick.
  125.    
  126.    Verbena: Abominable! The shedding of human blood for the simple
  127.    purpose of working Magick is insane! They are the ones who cause the
  128.    religious to start their witch-hunts that we all suffer from. If only
  129.    they had taken a different path from the beginning.
  130.    
  131.    Virtual Adepts: Computers are nice tools but they make a terrible
  132.    world to live within.
