ULTIMA IV
The file (AVATAR.EXE) is to replace your copy for Ultima IV. This will
remove the requirement for the distribution disk to be in drive A:.
Simply copy you distribution and player disks to a hard disk directory
and replace your copy of AVATAR.EXE with this file. I tried this
version for both C: and D: volumes with no troubles.
Quirks:
1) To run the program, type 'ultima' the first time. This will allow
you to 'Initiate new game'. Thereafter, type 'avatar' to run the
normal game. This bypasses the checks in ULTIMA.COM. I did not
fool around with ULTIMA.COM (was not necessary).
2) When running off your hard disk, if you put your player disk in A:,
the program will use those files instead of the ones in your local
hard disk directory. I did not remove the floppy disk requests.
3) I found that with a 3COM driver, an extra hard disk and a ramdisk
driver, the game gets a memory allocation error. If either the 3COM
or the ramdisk driver is removed, the game works fine...
Good luck!!
