  33. WebCost 5.07 requires the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 
  34. runtime library to run. You can get this package from the 
  35. Ozzie Productions web site if you need it.
  36.  
  37. Due to the addition of some features in WebCost 5.07, there
  38. is no need for an Internet Explorer integration package
  39. anymore. Installing WebCost 5.07 over WebCost 4.0 with the
  40. integration package automatically removes the integration 
  41. package.

  46. 2. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  49. NOTE:- You should UNINSTALL any previous version of WebCost
  50. before you install WebCost 5.07.

  52. To install WebCost 5.07, decompress the ZIP file into a 
  53. temporary directory using WinZip or other compression software.
  54. Double-click on "Setup.exe" to start the Setup application.
  55. Follow the on-screen instructions to install WebCost.

  63. To uninstall WebCost 5.07, open "Add/Remove Programs" under
  64. Control Panel and double-click on WebCost 5.07 in the window.
  65. This will start the uninstaller. Follow the on-screen
  66. instructions to uninstall WebCost.

  71. 4. INTRODUCTION TO WEBCOST
  72. ==========================

  74. WebCost is a notification program that sits in the system 
  75. tray and monitors the cost and duration of internet calls. 
  76.  
  77. Call rates are fully customisable, and the application 
  78. includes multiple location support, enabling it to be used 
  79. no matter what country you are in. You can enter in and 
  80. save call rates for each location and switch between your 
  81. dialling locations easily. In addition to this, WebCost can 
  82. add on any call charges or monthly charges made by your ISP.

  84. WebCost can create a detailed log file of all calls made, 
  85. including information about the date and time of the start 
  86. of the call, who was logged on to the computer when the 
  87. call was made and the total amount of time and money spent 
  88. on-line since a specified date. WebCost can detect when you 
  89. connect and disconnect to and from the internet and can 
  90. start and stop logging accordingly.

  92. Once call logging has started, WebCost can remind you of 
  93. the current call duration and cost at an interval that you 
  94. specify. The reminder can be visual, audible or both, and 
  95. the visual warnings offer you the option of disconnecting 
  96. from the internet. In addition to this WebCost can be 
  97. configured to automatically disconnect the computer from 
  98. the internet after a certain period of time or money has 
  99. expired. This can be useful if you are a parent and wish to 
  100. restrict the amount of time/money that your children spend 
  101. on the internet. To make this feature secure, the 
  102. disconnection options can be password-protected so that 
  103. they cannot be tampered with.

  105. WebCost also includes a feature called "Special Rates", 
  106. which is intended for use when your telecom company offers 
  107. a reduced calling rate for a temporary period of time. 
  108. For example, if your telecom company offered discounted 
  109. call rates over the Christmas period, you could set this up 
  110. as a "Special Rate". When a "Special Rate" is selected, the 
  111. standard calling rates are temporarily overridden.

  116. 5. WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 5.0

  119. 1) Automatic start/stop logging when computer 
  120. connects/disconnects. WebCost can automatically start 
  121. logging when you connect to the internet and stop logging 
  122. when you disconnect.

  124. 2) Password protected disconnection features. WebCost
  125. has password-protected disconnection options, which are 
  126. useful if you are a parent and wish to limit the amount of 
  127. time/money that your children spend on the internet.

  129. 3) Connect to the internet. You can now connect to the 
  130. internet using Dial-Up Networking straight from WebCost.

  132. 4) Run programs. WebCost can run specified applications 
  133. when you connect to and disconnect from the internet.

  135. 5) Disconnection features on reminder screens. You can now 
  136. disconnect from the internet and stop logging a call from 
  137. the reminder screens.

  139. 6) Select dialling location from menu. You can now switch 
  140. between dialling locations from WebCostÆs menu, as well as 
  141. in Options.

  143. 7) Multi-user options. WebCost can record the name of 
  144. the currently logged on user in the log file, enabling 
  145. you to see who spends the most amount of time/money online.

  147. 8) Disable log prompt screen. In WebCost, you can 
  148. disable the log prompt screen, so that WebCost automatically 
  149. writes to the log file, without asking you first.
  150.  
  151. 9) Call Calculator. WebCost's call calculator allows you 
  152. to see how much a call of specified length would cost at a 
  153. specified rate.

  155. 10) ISP Charges. WebCost can add on any hourly/month 
  156. charges made by your ISP, and is fully compatible with ISP 
  157. free time.

  159. 11) Discounts. WebCost supports discounted rates offered 
  160. by some telecom companies.

  162. 12) Cost/Duration totals since specified date. WebCost
  163. tells you the totals of call duration and cost since the 
  164. date they were last cleared.

  166. 13) "Always on top" notification window. WebCost can 
  167. display a notification window, which shows the current call 
  168. duration and cost in real time. This saves you from having 
  169. to rest your mouse over the system tray icon to see call 
  170. details.

  172. 14) "Play" button on sounds page. WebCost has a button 
  173. to listen to event sounds on the sound selection page.
  174.  
  175. 15) Statistics screen. WebCost can be configured to 
  176. display a statistics dialog each time it starts. The 
  177. statistics screen displays call duration and cost totals 
  178. and ISP information.
  179.  
  180. 16) Disable automatic rate detection. Previous versions 
  181. of WebCost detected the current calling rate by analysing 
  182. the date and time. If you prefer, you can disable automatic 
  183. detection and manually select the calling rate in WebCost.

  185. 17) More accurate call rates. WebCost calculates call 
  186. rates to more places of decimals for more accuracy.
  187.  
  188. 18) Improved U/I. WebCost has an improved user interface, 
  189. making it easier to enter in call rates, and customise 
  190. advanced location options.

  192. 19) Modem negotiation time. WebCost can account for the 
  193. time it takes the modem to dial up and communicate with the 
  194. ISP, and update the call length and cost accordingly.

  196. 20) More sound events. WebCost has more built-in sound 
  197. events.

  200. detailed help file, with context-sensitive help about all
