  6.         This document contains information regarding the use of FrontDoor
  7.         version 2.20b, and assumes that your CURRENT version is 2.20a. If
  8.         this is not the case, or if you wish to obtain a new set of disks
  9.         for 2.20b, please contact the retailer where you purchased
  10.         FrontDoor for instructions.

  18.         This patch update contains the following files:

  21.           220A220B.RTP   Patch file
  22.           PATCH.EXE      .RTPatch program used to apply patches. You MUST
  23.                          use the supplied PATCH.EXE. If you have an older
  24.                          version of .RTPatch, you should replace it with
  25.                          the one distributed in this archive.
  26.           FD.EXE         FrontDoor Mailer executable
  27.           FM.EXE         FrontDoor Editor executable
  28.           FDNC.EXE       FrontDoor Nodelist Compiler executable
  29.           FDSETUP.EXE    FrontDoor SETUP executable

  35.         Applying the patch
  36.  
  37.  
  38.         These changes can be carried out for you by taking the Step-by-Step
  39.         Procedure outlined below. CAUTION! This procedure will replace and
  40.         modify your FrontDoor program files. If the upgrade fails for some
  41.         reason, you are likely to find a fresh backup very useful!
  42.  
  43.         Therefore:
  44.  
  45.           1.  Backup your complete FrontDoor 2.20a system!
  46.  
  47.               Should you choose to ignore the above, at least copy the
  48.               three system configuration files mentioned above.
  49.  
  50.           2.  Copy the 220A220B.RTP and PATCH.EXE files, supplied herein,
  51.               to the directory where your original (FrontDoor 2.20a) copies
  52.               of FD.OVR, FM.OVR and FDNC.OVR are stored. This directory is
  53.               hereafter referred to as the BINDIR.
  54.  
  55.           3.  Change the current directory to the directory to where you
  56.               copied the 220A220B.RTP and PATCH.EXE, and execute the patch
  57.               utility by typing:
  58.  
  59.                 PATCH 220A220B<Enter>
  60.  
  61.               Upon successful completion, you should delete 220A220B.RTP.
  62.               Note: if BINDIR resides on a virtual disk (i.e. RAMdisk), you
  63.               must also replace the "hard" copies of the *.OVR files with
  64.               the new ones.
  65.  
  66.           4.  Copy the new FD.EXE, FDNC.EXE, FDSETUP.EXE and FM.EXE to
  67.               the directory where your FrontDoor 2.20a program files are
  68.               stored. By doing so, you will effectively replace the old
  69.               files with those supplied herein.
  70.  
  71.           5.  If you do not have FrontDoor configured for multi-line
  72.               operation, or you use a unique SETUP.FD for each line, you
  73.               may proceed to 11.
  74.  
  75.           6.  Load FDSETUP from the DOS prompt by typing FDSETUP<Enter>.
  76.  
  77.           7.  Go to the "Modem" menu and repeat steps 8, 9, and 10 for all
  78.               your active lines (1-255).
  79.  
  80.           8.  Select the "Task specific" menu option.
  81.  
  82.           9.  When prompted for the task number, press <Enter> if the
  83.               correct task number is displayed, otherwise enter the task
  84.               number and press <Enter>.
  85.  
  86.           10. Press <Esc>. If you are asked if you want to save the changes,
  87.               respond by pressing "Y".
  88.  
  89.           11. Since this upgrade is distributed as program patches via modem,
  90.               to be applied on already installed copies of the FrontDoor
  91.               2.20a program files, you will not have Original Program
  92.               Diskette(s) for the upgraded software. Be sure to make a backup
  93.               of your new installation! Please, contact your dealer if you
  94.               wish to receive an offer to update your original diskette(s).
  95.  
  96.               Note: You should store PATCH.EXE somewhere, it is likely that
  97.                     it will be used for future program updates.

  102.  
  103.         Changes from version 2.20a
  104.  
  105.  
  106.           GLOBAL
  107.  
  108.             - Added support for 21600, 24000, 26400, and 28800 baudrates.
  109.  
  110.             - Added automatic recognition of CD-ROM drives (controlled by
  111.               MSCDEX or similar driver) so that path resolution is not
  112.               attempted on such pathnames. If you used NORES just to get
  113.               around this problem, you can now stop using it.
  114.  
  115.           FDSETUP
  116.  
  117.             - The "Delay before first call" option has been moved to the
  118.               event behavior to allow this to be set for specific events.
  119.  
  120.             - The minimum "Seconds before passing to BBS" has been restored
  121.               to 11 as requested by a few users. The default, however, is
  122.               still 30.
  123.  
  124.             - Because the modem response handling in the Mailer has been re-
  125.               written, you may have to change your Answer Delay setting if
  126.               you use the Manual Answer and LDFRS features of the Mailer.
  127.  
  128.             - Added "NoDial" setting to Modem Manager. If the Mailer makes a
  129.               match with an entry that has this flag set, the dial attempt is
  130.               immediately aborted and the mail bundle is placed on Hold. This
  131.               allows you to prevent the Mailer from calling specific systems
  132.               based on nodelist flags, baudrates, or specific network
  133.               addresses. This is not supported in the Terminal.
  134.  
  135.             - The use of the '|' and '/' characters in modem responses is no
  136.               longer required to allow the Mailer to distinguish between,
  137.               for example, CONNECT 1200 and CONNECT 12000; nor is the '|'
  138.               character required after the "CONNECT 300" definition, if
  139.               previously defined as "CONNECT|".
  140.          
  141.     
  142.           MAILER
  143.  
  144.             - The Mailer will now open all files in ReadOnly/DenyNone mode
  145.               when it is transmitting files. This should prevent sharing
  146.               violations that could previously occur on a multi-line system
  147.               where external protocol drivers such as DSZ are involved.
  148.  
  149.             - A bug in the Modem7 filename receiver code was found and
  150.               corrected.
  151.  
  152.             - A bug in the Telink timestamp handling was found and corrected.
  153.     
  154.             - The FDSERVER function no longer uses the ASCII 254 character
  155.               when adding entries to the log. Instead it uses the '&'
  156.               character.
  157.  
  158.             - The bundle manager, <AltB>, would not allow you to view the
  159.               information about a mail bundle if the destination system could
  160.               not be found in your nodelist database.
  161.  
  162.             - The NOFTSC1 command-line switch and FDOPT option has been
  163.               renamed to NOFTS1 to conform with FDSETUP's Security Manager
  164.               screen.
  165.  
  166.             - The "Return Receipt" messages generated by the Mailer now
  167.               correctly contains MSGID and REPLY extended message
  168.               information.
  169.  
  170.             - The fax files created by the Mailer are now named in a slightly
  171.               more readable way. The format DDMMMNNN.FAX will be used, where
  172.               DD is the current day number, MMM is the current month (JAN,
  173.               FEB, MAR, etc.), and NNN a sequence number 1-999.
  174.  
  175.             - The "Lock Keyboard" (<AltL> or /L: command-line parameter)
  176.               function is NO longer case INsensitive, e.g. specifying
  177.               "KBDlock" will not unlock the keyboard if it was locked with
  178.               "kbdlock".
  179.  
  180.             - The password for the "Protection" options in FDSETUP > Mailer
  181.               are NO longer case INsensitive, e.g. specifying "ExitLock" will
  182.               not allow <AltQ> if the password specified in FDSETUP is
  183.               "EXITLOCK".
  184.  
  185.             - The "FILES" and "SECFILES" paths defined in FDSETUP now support
  186.               the $TASK$ system macro.
  187.  
  188.             - The "LIST", "SECLIST", "ALIAS", "SECALIAS", and "MESSAGE" path-
  189.               name definitions for file requests now support the $TASK$
  190.               system macro.
  191.  
  192.             - The 'v' (lowercase V) character forces the Mailer to lower the
  193.               DTR signal and the '^' character forces the Mailer to raise the
  194.               DTR signal, when encountered in any of the modem command
  195.               strings. The '`' character is translated to a 0.5s pause ('~'
  196.               is still a 1.0s pause). This is also supported in the Script
  197.               language and the Terminal's initialization string.
  198.  
  199.             - Because of the above changes, the command "SENDNOXLAT" has been
  200.               added to the script language. This command will transmit the
  201.               specified string untranslated to the modem. Mnemonics (i.e.
  202.               <CR>) are still, however, supported by the SENDNOXLAT command.
  203.  
  204.             - The "PROTOCOL:" and "COMPRESSION:" modem responses returned by
  205.               some modems are now supported and translated to one-line
  206.               messages such as LAPM (for LAP-M), MNP, etc.
  207.  
  208.             - The following new macros have been added to the External
  209.               Request Processor and Service Request interface:
  210.  
  211.                 =M  Same as =F but without a path (the file is always located
  212.                     in the FrontDoor SYSTEM directory).
  213.  
  214.                 =W  Translates to "LISTED" or "UNLISTED" depending on whether
  215.                     or not the remote system was found in your Nodelist
  216.                     Database. For outbound sessions, =W will always
  217.                     translated to "LISTED".
  218.  
  219.                 =Q  Same as =R but without a path (this is only available in
  220.                     the ERP interface).
  221.  
  222.                 =E  Same as =T but without a path (this is only available in
  223.                     the ERP interface).
  224.  
  225.                 =Y  The current TASK= setting. For the Shareware version,
  226.                     this will always be '0' (zero).
  227.  
  228.           TERMINAL
  229.  
  230.             - Added support for "Auto Doorway Mode". If enabled, the Terminal
  231.               will enter raw keyboard mode upon receipt of the <Esc>[=255h
  232.               sequence and exit raw keyboard mode upon receipt of the
  233.               <Esc>[=255l sequence. The terminal emulation protocol must be
  234.               ANSI for these sequences to be honored by the Terminal.
  235.  
  236.             - The Terminal no longer enables FOSSIL software flow control.
  237.               The Ctrl-S (XOFF) and Ctrl-Q (XON) keys will, however, function
  238.               as before.
  239.  
  240.             - The ten minute timer, after which the Terminal returns to the
  241.               Mailer if it was invoked with <Alt-J>, is now configurable in
  242.               the Terminal settings screen in FDSETUP.
  243.  
  244.             - The Terminal Phone Directory would not allow you to add more
  245.               than 100 entries. The correct limit is 400 entries.
  246.  
  247.             - The Terminal now includes the complete time elapsed since the
  248.               start of a connection as opposed to just minutes and seconds.
  249.  
  250.             - <Alt=> can now be used to toggle the state of "Raw mode". This
  251.               means that <Alt=> cannot be transmitted in "Raw mode". This
  252.               was added for use in those environments where ScrollLock has a
  253.               defined function.
  254.  
  255.           EDITOR
  256.  
  257.             - A new editor macro has been added (~W). It is identical to the
  258.               ~X (Export to file) macro with the exception that it does not
  259.               include the message header information. This can be used with
  260.               spell checkers and external conversion and translation
  261.               utilities.
