- <xpath >
- This is the fully qualified path to the directory in which you want
- to install XBBS. Please note that this installation program is for
- NEW installations only, and shouldn't be used to upgrade.
-
- This Install program creates a set of directories something like this:
-
- [xbbspath]---------[utils]
- [menu]
- [text]
- [library]
- [news]
- [msg]---------[bulls]
- [force]
- [xport]
- [mport]
-
- What the directories are:
-
- [xbbspath] The primary XBBS directory, what you're now being asked
- to enter. LOGON0.EXE, the XBBS program, goes here, as
- well as XBBS.TXT, the XBBS prompt file (something like
- the "language" file provided with other BBSs, but more
- powerful). If you later install HeadEdit you can place
- it in here, too.
- [utils] Other utility programs, some of them called by XBBS,
- go in this directory. Both [xbbspath] and [utils]
- should be added to your DOS Path.
- [menu] Where .XBS menu programs go.
- [text] Where plain text (.ASC) and ANSI text (.ANS) files go.
- [library] Used by the default internal XBBS Library routines.
- [news] Used by the default internal XBBS News routines.
- [msg] Where your message bases and related files (like
- MSGAREAS.XBS) go.
- [bulls] Where rules and description files go for your message
- bases, used by Bullsmode if present.
- [force] One way to create custom logons for individual users
- is to use this directory and a unique filename
- corresponding to a particular user.
- [xport] Used to export messages for users.
- [mport] Used to receive messages from users for import.
-
- <mpath >
- This is the directory out of which your mailer runs.
- <system >
- The name for your BBS. You can, BTW, change this stuff later...
- <sysop >
- Your name, the big cheese, head honcho, sysop.
- <modexec >
- If you want me to, I can scan your AUTOEXEC.BAT file for a PATH= or
- SET PATH= entry and add the first field above, plus directory UTILS
- off of that directory. If you don't want me to, you have to do it.
- XBBS will probably not run if you forget, leading to intense pain,
- profuse sweating, difficulty in breathing, loss of consciousness,
- violent convulsions, and, finally, uh, death.
- <peeker >
- Peeker is an archive viewing/manipulation Door (external program).
- If you've got a copy and it's in the default directory, I can install
- it for you while I'm in the neighborhood anyway...
- <library >
- Library is a text file librarian Door. If the archive's in the default
- directory, I can install it for you, too.
- <lineed >
- LineEd is an external line editor for XBBS (all editors and protocols
- are external in XBBS). Want I should install it, huh? You'll need to
- have the archive in the default directory...
- <ansied >
- ANSIEd is an external ANSImation editor for XBBS. If you've got the
- archive in the default directory I can install it for you.
- <ansichat >
- ANSIChat is an external full-screen chat Door. It's hooked up to ALT-1
- if you would like it installed and have the archive in the default
- directory.
- <cleanup >
- Would you like me to clean up myself and various partial archives? I'll
- leave you the main archive in case you need to <shudder> reinstall
- someday. It's probably a good idea to check this, you command-line
- junkie, you.
