- This note is for users of OS/2 Warp who find that use of SCAN.EXE causes
- the THDPRO.EXE (or other) window to close without any apparent reason.
-
- My "first" solution is to use the OS/2 native version of THD ProScan
- (version 12 or later) and the native OS/2 version of McAfee's VirusScan.
-
- However if for some reason you MUST use the dos version, try this...
-
- After much investigation, I must admit I am unable to figure out "why"
- SCAN 2.?.? closes an OS/2 session.
- However, I have found, that for some unknown reason, I am able to stop it
- from doing so if I run "SCAN *.*". After running this in an OS/2 window,
- SCAN.EXE thereafter seems to work fine. In turn THDPRO.EXE has no difficulty
- running it without the window closing.
-
- If the window (or session) is closed and then opened again, you will need
- to run scan.exe in the newly opened window (session) in order prevent SCAN.EXE
- from closing it.
-
- This has proven to be the case on my system for both a VDM and a dos
- session. I cannot however guarantee it will work for everyone else.
-
- Other's have reported "some" success by changing their DOS=HIGH statement
- in their config.sys file (some loading dos high and others not, some using the
- UMB some not). There seems to be no pattern to this and there are also no
- guarantees. The most common sucessful setting is DOS=HIGH,UMB.
-
- The alternate solution is to use the OS/2 native version of THD ProScan
- (version 12 or later) and the native OS/2 version of McAfee's VirusScan.
