- Subject: RA Handle and anonymous mail interpretation by Silver Xpress 4.00
-
- The file SXRAFILE.EXE is a small patch program to fix up a possible
- mis-interpretion of RA's HANDLE logic in Silver Xpress.
-
- RA has 3 types of mail areas:
-
- - REAL NAME ONLY
- - PICK AN ALIAS (ANONYMOUS MAIL)
- - FORCE HANDLE
-
- Silver Xpress will respect the behavior of these RA areas 100%
-
- However, Xpress Mail Door v4.00 was maybe mis-interpreting a RA system
- using HANDLES within a ANONYMOUS MAIL.
-
- First, if you have a HANDLE system, you must go into the SETUP, BBS INFO
- section in XPADM and set the flag "ALIAS SYSTEM" to TRUE (or YES). The
- quick install was not doing this. This will allow your setup of Xpress and
- the Silver Xpress mail reader to respect the RA handle system.
-
- Second, as far as I know, RA does not have a mail type where you can have a
- FORCE HANDLE by default and then PICK ALIAS together. In other words,
- put the user's handle as a default but allow him to change it.
-
- Xpress was interpretation this type of behavior for an RA area that was set
- to FORCE HANDLE ONLY. This is because RA is setting BOTH bits of
- information in the RA MESSAGES.RA file when you set it has a FORCE HANDLE
- area.
-
- When posting mail in RA, RA would force the handle when creating a message
- and not allow the user to change it. So RA was ignoring the ANONYMOUS
- mail bit it had set in MESSAGES.RA.
-
- But under the Xpress reader, it was allowing the user to change it because
- RA was telling Xpress it a ANONYMOUS area as well.
-
- The SXRAFIX program will remove the ANONYMOUS MAIL bit from the Xpress area
- system file XPAREAS.DAT so that the Xpress Reader will properly understands
- it is a HANDLE ONLY area.
-
- Simply put this program in the Xpress directory and run it everytime you
- do a XPADM update (XPADM -U).
