- Renegade File Commander is available at MetaSys Support System BBS
- (717) 545-7975 7/24 hours. Support is available via the ITCnet
- Renegade Echo. Current versions of the program can be FREQ'ed from
- the MetaSys BBS using the magic name RGFCMD.
-
- This version -must- be registered to fully use the program.
- We program for a living and can't afford to give it way.
- Suggestions and recommendations for enhancements are always welcome.
-
- ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- First, let's get the legal stuff over with....
- ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- WARRANT/DISCLAIMER:
-
- The Renegade File Commander (RGFC) is guaranteed to take up
- room on your hard disk until you see fit to erase it! Due to the
- volatile nature of Renegade updates, and until Renegade is out of
- beta, we cannot guarantee that RGFC will continue to function during
- subsequent releases of Renegade. If the users of RGFC support our
- development effort, we will attempt to keep up to date...
-
- The authors specifically disclaim all other warranties, expressed
- or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of
- merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose and the
- program license granted herein in particular, and without limiting
- operation of the program license with respect to any particular
- application, use, or purpose. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR BE
- LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFIT, LOST SAVINGS, COMMERCIAL DAMAGE, OR
- OTHER INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR
- INABILITY TO USE RGFC EVEN IF THE AUTHORS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF
- THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY ANY OTHER PARTY.
-
- ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Whew! Now that we are done with that! Gotta cover your ... ya know!
- ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- WHAT IS THE RENEGADE FILE COMMANDER, ANYWAY???
-
- RGFC was designed for the industrious Renegade sysop to allow
- for easy maintenance of the file system. It was designed to make
- child's play out of keeping your file lists, descriptions, and actual
- files in sync. Editing is made as easy and seamless as possible,
- by using fully editable input routines. No longer do you have to type
- in the complete description, simply to correct spelling of a word! The
- edit routines allow you to use several cursor movement keys that
- most people that ever used a word processor take for granted.
-
-
- LIMITATIONS TO SHAREWARE VERSION
-
- The shareware version of RGFC will allow you to testdrive the
- whole program, but will not update your Renegade data files. This
- allows you to get an idea if this program is for you. We are
- professional programmers, and this is our whole living. We just
- plain can't afford to give away the results of our work. By
- registering this program, you are ensuring that we keep an interest
- in updating it to meet the new releases of Renegade as they come out.
-
- We are only asking $15 U.S. to register RGFC, which is more than
- fair considering that we charge $75 per hour to our clients to do the
- same kind of programming :).
-
- ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- HOW DO I INSTALL THIS PROGRAM?
-
- Installation couldn't be easier! Copy RGFC to your main
- Renegade directory (where Renegade.dat lives), and it is installed!
- When you register RGFC, you will recieve a key number. To register
- the key into the program, start RGFC, and press F9 from anywhere
- inside the program. Type in your key, and you are registered! If you
- recieve a message that tells you to register, you have either mis-typed
- your key, or you are not registered...
-
- ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- HOW DOES IT WORK?
-
- When you start RGFC, you will see the introduction screen first.
- Press any key when you are finished reading. At this point, you are
- presented with a browse screen containing your file bases.

- Area In Color - Display of file area description in sysop defined colors
- NOTE: ONLY PIPE CODES ARE SUPPORTED. Control P codes
- are not supported, but are filtered out of the browse.
- The old ASCII 3 codes are not supported at all.
- Bottom Line - Active key display.

- FILE BASE EDITING
-
- The browse allows you to scroll up or down as well as left and
- right. By scrolling to the right, all the editable fields are displayed
- to you. Pressing the space bar allows you to edit the currently
- highlighted field. Pressing ENTER anywhere in the browse will take you
- to the DIR file that is currently highlighted. You can always tell
- which one is current by looking at the area in color display at the
- bottom of the screen. Now we will look at how the various fields
- are handled during edits:
-
- AREA - Area Description displayed to the users. You can
- optionally add pipe codes to colorize these. If
- using pipe codes, you should use them in
- foreground/background pairs or they may not be filtered
- properly... If the descriptions look funny after you
- edit them, this is why. Pipe codes must be formatted
- as |nn|nn to work properly.
-
- FILE - This is the file (DIR) that Renegade stores all the
- file names and descriptions in. If you press space while
- highlighting this field, you will be asked if you want to
- rename this file.
-
- DOWNLOAD PATH - This is the path where all the files available for
- download are stored. If you press space on this field
- you can change this to a different path, optionally
- create the path if it does not exist, and optionally
- move the files, if any, from the old path to the new
- one. Real handy way to move files to another drive.
-
- UPLOAD PATH - This is where incoming files are stored. Works exactly
- the same as DOWNLOAD PATH.
-
- MAXFILES - The maximum number of files allowed in this directory.
- RGFC does not enforce this, but Renegade probably will!
-
- PASSWORD - Optional password to access this area.
-
- ARCTYPE - Archive type for this area. RGFC does nothing here.
-
- CMTTYPE - Comment type for this area. RGFC does nothing here.
-
- FBSTAT - File base status bits. Pressing space here will pop
- up a dialog box that allows you to toggle the flags
- on or off with the space bar. Press ENTER to record.
-
- ACCESS
- U/L ACCESS
- D/L ACCESS - Security levels to access the file bases.

- The file menu provides a rich collection of functionality to
- RGFC. This menu can be displayed by pressing F10, or by pressing the
- 'speed keys' displayed inside the {} to the right of each option.
-
- Let's explore the options:
-
- U or /U - Upload Files: Performs the same duty as Renegade's /U
- command but many times faster! This function
- compares the current DIR file to the actual disk
- directory, and adds any files it finds that
- are not in Renegade yet. Then moves the
- highlight bar to the first new file.
-
- D or /D - Delete File: Erases the current file from Renegade's DIR
- file, and optionally, from the hard drive.
- Optionally, you can deduct the file credits
- from the uploader.
-
- E or /E - Edit FileStats: Performs the edits on the file area flags.
- Simply press the space bar to toggle the
- various options on or off. Press ENTER
- to record.
-
- M or /M - Move File: Move the current file to a different file area.
- A pop up menu will appear, that allows you to
- select the area to move to. Move the highlight
- to the area you want, and press ENTER. You can
- also type the first letter of the area for a
- speed search.
-
- R or /R - Rename File: Renames the current file on disk and in Renegade.
-
- O or /O - Scan For Offline: This does the opposite of the upload
- command. This function compares the
- Renegade DIR file to the actual DOS
- directory, and marks files that are not
- really on disk as offline. Offline files
- are displayed in a dimmed color.
-
- V or /V - View Record: Pops up a box displaying all the info for the
- current file. This saves you from panning the
- browse just to see a few fields.
-
- S or /S - Sort This Area: Sorts the current file area, real fast!
-
- A or /A - View Archive: This option will display the contents of the
- current archive file. While the contents are
- displayed you can highlight any text file, and
- press ENTER to display the contents. This allows
- you to read doc files, and desc.sdi files
- and figure out what the devil it is!

- FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS PLANNED FOR RGFC.
-
- o Multiple file tagging to allow moving or deleting files
- in bunches.
- o Extended Description edits.
- o Creation/Deletion of file areas.
- o Repositioning Of File bases.
- o Automatic archive adjustments. Allow sysop to run external
- archive conversion, and automatically change extension in
- Renegade's file listing.
- o Reporting options. Create custom file listings, reports, ect.
- o Global search/replace function.
- o Global offline scanning. Allow sysop to scan all file areas
- for offline files with one command.
- o Pop up color matrix selection table for colorizing descriptions.
- o Mouse support?
- o Fileviewer configuration support for graphics files and other
- formats!
-
- ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- COMMENTS & NOTES
-
- o RGFC assumes that the sysop is user number one.
-
- o RGFC is multi-user aware. It checks for the presence of share. If
- you are running multinode, make sure share is loaded. All efforts
- have been made to insure data integrity, but always be real careful
- what you try while users are online. Things like renaming file
- bases and/or files while the user is accessing them are not a real
- good idea...
-
- o The program also sets a multiuser variable to determine if SHARE.EXE
- is installed. If so, all file updates will use Interrupt $5c
- record locks. Multi-record appends will LOCK the entire file during
- update and unlock on completion. Integrity of your files is important
- to me!
-
- o RGFC supports up to 4000 file areas containing up to 4000 file
- descriptions each.
-
- o If a file directory is empty, RGFC will attempt to upload any files
- in the directory, and barring that, will display a message saying
- the file area is empty.
