- Documentation for Remote Access Backup System
-
- Overview
- --------
-
-
-
- Remote Access Backup System was made to easily backup all
- kinds of files. It is designed for Remote Access and
- related programs like FrontDoor and FMail, but it can be
- used for anything you like.
-
- Remote Access Backup System is able to backup all your
- Remote Access system files (*.RA), Remote Access control
- files (*.CTL), the file-description files (FILES.BBS),
- the Remote Access UserBase (USERS.BBS & USERSXI.BBS), the
- FrontDoor System files (*.FD), the AllFix System Files
- (*.FIX), the James System Files (JAMES.*), the FMail
- System Files (FMAIL.*), the GEcho System Files (*.GE) and
- the IMail System Files (IMAIL.*). It is able to copy
- these files into a directory or RABS will archive these
- files. This is all done automatically; you only specify
- what you want to backup.

- RABSetup
- --------
-
-
-
- RABSetup is used to create a file called RABS.CFG, which
- is the RABS config file. This file is created in the
- current directory.
-
- RABSetup doesn't need any command-line parameters. When
- you run RABSetup, you can specify what you want to back-
- up.
-
- Backup Remote Access system files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- Remote Access system files. It searches for these
- files in the RA-directory. Files it will backup are
- for example CONFIG.RA and FILES.RA.
-
- Backup Remote Access control files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- Remote Access control files. It searches for these
- files in de RA-directory. Files it will backup are
- for example FILES.CTL and LIMITS.CTL.
-
- Backup FILES.BBS's? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- file-description files. It searches for these files
- in the different file-area's.
-
- Backup UserBase Files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- Remote Access UserBase. It searches for these files
- in the MsgBase-directory. Files it will backup are
- USERS.BBS and USERSXI.BBS.
-
- Backup FrontDoor System Files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- FrontDoor system files. It searches for these files
- in the FD-directory. Files it will backup are for
- example ROUTE.FD and SETUP.FD.
-
- Backup AllFix System Files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- AllFix system files. It searches for these files in
- the AllFix-directory. Files it will backup are for
- example AREAS.FIX and SETUP.FIX.
-
- Backup James System Files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- James system files. It searches for these files in
- the James-directory. Files it will backup are for
- example JAMES.CFG and JAMES.ARE.

- Backup FMail System Files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- FMail system files. It searches for these files in
- the FMail-directory. Files it will backup are for
- example FMAIL.AR and FMAIL.CFG.
-
- Backup GEcho System Files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- GEcho system files. It searches for these files in
- the GEcho directory. Files it will backup are for
- example SETUP.GE and AREAFILE.GE.
-
- Backup IMail System Files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should backup the
- IMail system files. It searches for these files in
- the IMail-directory. Files it will backup are for
- example IMAIL.CF and IMAil.AR.
-
- RABSetup will now ask a few directories, which are needed
- to be able to find the files you want to backup.
-
- Archive backupped files? (Y/n)
- Here you specify whether RABS should archive the
- backupped files. It will use ARJ to archive the
- files to one archive, with a unique name.
-
- Use ARJ or PKZip? (A/p)
- Here you specify whether you want to use ARJ or
- PKZip to archive your files.
-
- RABSsetup asks now for the directory where it can find
- the archiver you have specified.

-
- RABS
- ----
-
-
-
- RABS is the main program of Remote Access Backup System.
- It copies the files or archives the files you've speci-
- fied. RABS searches the file RABS.CFG in the path, the
- current directory, the directory where RABS is and in the
- directory specified in the environment variable RABS. If
- it cannot find the config file, the program will stop.
-
- RABS has one optional command-line parameter. Here you
- can specify the directory where the backup is made. If
- you don't specify a directory, the backup will be made in
- the current directory.
-
- If you have told RABS to archive the files, the archive
- will be placed in the directory which you have specified
- or in the current directory. If you don't want to archive
- the backupped files the backupped files will be placed in
- a subdirectory under the specified or current directory.
-
- If RABS creates a directory, it will use the current day
- and time to make a unique name. The first four characters
- are always RABS. The last four characters are the current
- day and month. The extension is 3 digits long, and is
- made of the current time. If you want to create an ar-
- chive, the name of the archive will be the same as the
- directory. The extension will then start with a 'J', and
- the other two characters will be the same as the exten-
- sion of the directory name.
-
- If you want to copy the FILES.BBS's, RABS will create
- another subdirectory under the backup-directory named
- FILES.BBS. In this directory the files will be copied.
- The files will be named FILES.xxx, where xxx is the
- number of the area.
-
- RABS will try to find a file called RABSFILE.LST. In this
- file you may specify additional files you want to backup,
- for example your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. You may use wildcards
- in this file, or specify a directory. If you specifiy a
- directory, subdirectories will not be included!
-
- RABS will create a file called RABS.INF in the backup-
- directory. In this file are the sort of files (RA system,
- FD system etc.) which are backupped.
