- Peeker (the program you're in) can let you view the contents of an
- archive (ZOO, ZIP, PAK, ARC, PKA, LZH, etc.) and read a text file from
- the archive. To list an archive's contents, hit [C]. Peeker will ask
- you for the filename you want to list. Type the name of the archive
- (i.e. THISPROG.ARC), and press [Enter]. You may include wildcards (?
- and *) in the filename, in which case Peeker will prompt you for which
- matching file you really wanted to list. You may enter the first part
- of a filename and press enter for similar results.
-
- After Peeker lists the archive's contents, it'll ask if you want to
- relist. If you need to do so, answer Yes, otherwise hit No or just
- [Enter]. Peeker will then ask if you want to read a file from the
- archive. This can be handy if you want to check the docs to see if the
- program is one you might be interested in downloading. Answer Yes and
- Peeker will ask you for the name of the program to read (no wildcards
- this time). Peeker then extracts the file and lets you read it.
-
- Peeker will also allow you to [L]ist the FILES.BBS of an area (the file
- that contains the names of and information on all files in the current
- area) if one is available. This is done so that you don't have to jump
- back and forth between Peeker and the main BBS when viewing several
- files if you need to check on the filenames to list.
-
- Peeker can [E]xtract part of an archive for downloading. This can be
- handy if you somehow misplaced a single file from an archive and don't
- want to download the whole thing again or want to extract the docs for
- offline review. Tell Peeker the name of the file to extract from
- (wildcards are acceptable as when viewing contents), then tell it the
- file(s) to extract. Peeker will extract the file(s), ask you which
- archive utility you want to repack the file(s) with, then repack them
- and exit so that the BBS can send the new archive to you. It will have
- the name XFILE.* (* is different depending on which archiver you
- selected to repack--for instance, if you Zoo the files, the filename
- will be XFILE.ZOO).
-
- Peeker can let you [B]uild an archive from parts of other archives for
- downloading. This has the same uses as [E]xtract, but can build an
- archive composed of parts of several other archives instead of just one.
- In this instance, you need to make a list of the files you want to
- extract from and the files contained in those archives which you want to
- extract. Then this option will let you extract from the archives until
- you've either reached the maximum component size allowed by your sysop
- or have extracted all the desired files from the archives. At that
- point, hit [Enter] alone when asked for the file to extract from, and
- the repacking and download will proceed as above.
-
- Remember that extracting and repacking can take a little time, so please
- be patient.
