- Information

-
- RA-Pager is a RemoteAccess questionnaire (q-a) script. This means that
- it will load extremely fast from RA, and you can still see the RA status
- bar and use all RA SysOp keys while in the program. RA-Pager gives you
- many advantages over RA's standard SysOp pager. Some of the features
- are:
-
- - "Do you want to page SysOp?" prompt before paging..
- - Full logging of all activity, page reasons, etc to a separate log
- (One thing I always disliked about RA's internal paging is the
- lack of logging of reasons, and the necessity of scanning through
- your entire RA.LOG to find when someone paged)..
- - Full lightbar support of all prompts..
- - Pressing enter on the chat reason prompt won't simply exit as RA's
- internal pager does. Instead, the user is displayed a message
- saying to please enter a reason, or type QUIT to exit..
- - Moving bars while SysOp is being paged so the user knows that
- something is happening..
- - Allows you to continue using RA's chatter (which many people prefer
- over a 3rd-party chatter) with a much improved interface..
- - ...And much more!
-
- - Notice on modifications of questionnaire:
-
- You may modify the text in this questionnaire (such as the paging
- reason asking string, etc). I only have one small requirement about
- this: You must leave the blue status bar at the top of every screen (as
- it is now) with the program name on it, the exact way it is by default.

- Legal Information
- ──═════════════════════──
-
- Neither myself (Jason Raphael) nor Dream Scape BBS can be held
- responsible for any damage this program may cause on your system. It
- HAS been thoroughly tested on my system as well as other systems, and to
- the best of my knowledge works fine. After all, it is only an RA
- questionnaire. <grin> :) If you DO for some reason encounter any
- problems with it, however, neither of the above mentioned parties take
- any responsibility for it.
-
- You are encouraged to distribute RA-Pager, as long as it is in its
- original archive with all files included and NOT modified in any way.

- Archive Contents
- ──═════════════════════──
-
- The RA-Pager archive (PAGEV155.ZIP) should contain the following files:
- DONATE.FRM Donation form
- FILE_ID.DIZ Program identification
- PAGEV155.Q-A Main Q-A file
- RA-PAGER.BAT Batch file used by RA-Pager
- RA-PAGER.DOC RA-Pager documentation (you're reading it!)
- RAPSAV10.ZIP RAPSA v1.0, a handy utility I wrote to adjust RA's
- paging status from the DOS prompt
- README.1ST Important installation information
- WHATSNEW.155 Information on new features in versions
-
- The following file will be created after RA-Pager is executed:
- PAGE.LOG RA-Pager logfile

-
- ──═════════════════════──
- Installation
- ──═════════════════════──
-
- You *MUST* rename PAGEV155.Q-A to PAGE.Q-A. This will also be helpful
- so that you don't have to adjust any menus due to new filenames in any
- future/previous versions.
-
- Also, you must have an ANSI driver loaded (such as ANSI.SYS).
-
- 1) Copy PAGE.Q-A to your RemoteAccess questionnaire directory.
-
- 2) Copy RA-PAGER.BAT to a directory that is in your PATH statement
- (ex: C:\DOS). If you have your RemoteAccess system directory in your
- PATH statement (in your autoexec.bat file), then you can just move
- it to that directory.
-
- IMPORTANT: RA-Pager uses your RemoteAccess environment variable to
- locate your RA system directory. You *MUST* have the RA environment
- variable set, and RA-PAGER.BAT *MUST* reside in a directory that is
- in your PATH statement, or RA-Pager will not operate correctly.
-
- 3) In RACONFIG -> Options -> Paging, make sure you have "Ask why"
- set to No, and "SysOp msgs" set to 0 (disabled). RA-Pager
- incorporates these features, so if you have RemoteAccess using
- them as well, the user will be prompted twice for both items.
-
- 4) Add the option in your menus:
-
- ∙ Setting up RA-Pager v1.55 in a RemoteAccess menu
-
- a) Enter RACONFIG -> Menu editor
- b) Go to the menu that you wish to have an option to page the system
- operator on. If you're running a registered version of RA, you may
- wish to put this on your GLOBALRA.MNU so that it can be executed
- from any menu on your BBS.
- c) Make a new menu entry as follows:
-
- Action Execute a questionnaire (Type 12)
- Display ; <-- Your display may vary
- OptData PAGE <-- Make sure you rename PAGEV155.Q-A to PAGE.Q-A!
- HotKey P <-- Your hotkey may vary
- AutoExec No
- Colour Colour example
-
- MinSec 0 TimeUsed 0 FlatCost 0
- MaxSec 0 TimeLeft 0 TimeCost 0
- A flags -------- Age 0 Terminal ANSI RIP
- B flags -------- MinSpeed 0 Nodes
- C flags -------- MaxSpeed 0 Groups
- D flags -------- Credit 0 DayTimes
-
- At this point in time, RA-Pager does not support ASCII. If your system
- supports ASCII callers, you'll have to set up a regular RA page menu
- option for them to use. This should be very easy to do - As in the
- above example, set the "Terminal" setting for RA-Pager to ANSI and RIP
- only. Then, create another menu option _after_ the option for RA-Pager.
- Make the action on this option a type 11 (page system operator for chat).
- Now, all ANSI/RIP callers will go to RA-Pager, and all ASCII callers will
- just get the internal RA pager.
-
- If there is enough demand, RA-Pager could support ASCII in a future
- release.

- RA-Pager Log
- ──═════════════════════──
-
- RA-Pager will create a logfile of all activity. Who entered the program
- and when will be logged, as well as their paging reason and if they left
- a message or not (if they chatted with you, that will be logged also -
- see next section for more information). Here are two examples of how
- the logfile will look after certain actions have taken place:
-
- RA-Pager executed by Jason Raphael [Jammer] on node 2 (02-08-96, 16:37).
- - Reason: Testing RA-Pager v1.55!
- - Left a message: Yes
- RA-Pager executed by Jason Raphael [Jammer] on node 2 (02-08-96, 16:58).
- - Reason: Example of logfile after SysOp has chatted
- - Left a message: [Chatted with SysOp]
-
- The RA-Pager logfile will be created in your RA system directory with
- the filename PAGE.LOG.

- SysOp Keys
- ──═════════════════════──
-
- There is only one major SysOp key in RA-Pager, and it only works in one
- place. After you've chatted with a user, you would normally press ESCape
- once to end chat. One minor change: Press ESCape _twice_ to end chat.
- This will cause the "Leave a message" prompt to abort and clear right
- away, as well as log that you chatted with the user.

-
- You are not required to pay any kind of fee to use this program. RA-Pager
- has greatly progressed since the time I began writing it (it was formerly
- not publicly released). Over all the versions, I've put a lot of my time
- into making it look just right, fixing every little detail, etc. There
- are no special features or extras you get for sending a donation, but I'm
- definitely more likely to release future versions and other q-a programs
- if I were to receive some donations. I suggest a small donation of $5.
- Please see DONATE.FRM for donation information. Even if you choose not
- to donate, if you enjoy the program, I'd really appreciate receiving
- some kind of postcard or letter from you. My mailing address is at
- the end of this document.

- Credits
- ──═════════════════════──
-
- As mentioned above, the development of RA-Pager has come a very long
- way since the first version written. There are some people that I'd
- like to thank for their help, without which RA-Pager wouldn't be where
- it is today (in no particular order):
- - Brad Meyer, the RA-Pager "beta tester," for his support, ideas,
- and testing of RA-Pager since version 1.0..
- - Andrew Milner - If it weren't for him, RemoteAccess wouldn't be
- here, and this program would be useless..
- - Eric Staufer, who inspired me to finally release this program
- publicly.
