- UPGRADE.DOC - Upgrading DataView from a previous version.
-
- The upgrade process to DataView 3.1 is pretty easy, however it is
- important that you read the instructions below carefully for the correct
- setup.
-
- If you are already a registered user of DataView, make sure that your
- DATAVIEW.KEY file resides in your home directory. DataView will find it
- there. Thanks!

- Upgrading to DataView 3.1 from 3.0
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
-
- 1) Overwrite your old DATAVIEW.EXE file with the new DATAVIEW.EXE file
- included in this archive.
-
- 2) Thats it!

- Upgrading to DataView 3.1 from 3.0ß
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
-
- 1) Overwrite the old DATAVIEW.EXE, DATAVCFG.EXE, DATAVCFG.HLP,
- and DATAVIEW.VGA with the new files.
-
- 2) The configuration file format has changed from version 3.0ß so you
- must run DATAVCFG.EXE. Once inside DATAVCFG.EXE go through all of
- your features and make sure everything is set correctly. You will
- also notice a couple of new features under the "Main Configuration
- Options" menu which you must configure. You now have the option of
- writing to ACTIVITY.xxx instead of the DATAVIEW.xxx file which can be
- more convenient for many people (it is for me!).
-
- 3) Thats all there is to it! Fire up WildCat! and make sure everything
- is working how it should be.
-

- Upgrading to DataView 3.1 from 2.2 or 2.0
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
-
- 1) Delete your original DATAVIEW.CFG from your WildCat! home directory.
- The DataView 3.1 configuration format has changed drastically, so we
- have to create a new configuration file.
-
- 2) Copy the DataView files into your WildCat! home directory (ie:
- C:\WC30). The files most necessary for operation are:
-
- DATAVIEW.EXE - DataView executable
- DATAVCFG.EXE - DataView configuration program
- VIEWCOMP.BAT - Sample VIEWCOMP.BAT
- DATAVIEW.HLP - Online help file for DataView
- DATAVCFG.HLP - Help file for DATAVCFG
- REGISTER.DOC - Registration form for DataView
- DATAVIEW.VGA - VGA Font file (optional)
-
- 3) In your WildCat! home directory, and at the DOS prompt, type
- "DATAVCFG" to load up the DataView configuration program.
- Once in the configuration program, you should first configure your
- main options. If you are ever confused as to what a feature is,
- press F1 at any time for the context sensitive help.
-
- One important thing that I should mention about the configuration is
- that you may leave the "work directory" field blank. By leaving this
- blank, DataView will create its own work directory every time it
- runs. If you have a specific drive or directory that you would like
- DataView to use, then enter this directory in the field.
-
- After exiting DATAVCFG, you will notice that it created a file called
- DATAVIEW.CFG. This file now holds your configuration options for
- DataView.
-
- 4) Edit your VIEWCOMP.BAT to look something like the following:
-
- DATAVIEW C:\WC30\DATAVIEW.CFG %1
- └───────────┐
- Please make sure that the first parameter contains the FULL path and
- file name to your configuration file that you just created in step 3.
-
- Make sure that you have no "change directory" commands in your
- VIEWCOMP.BAT file.
-
- 5) That takes care of the setup! Not to hard, eh? You might want to
- fire up WildCat! and log in to make sure everything is working
- correctly.
-
- If you have not registered already, please consider registering. Full
- registration information is located in DATAVREG.DOC.
-
- Thank you,
