- Section III: Installation/Upgrade Instructions
- ===============================================
-
- *> If you have never installed The Blue Wave Offline Mail Door for Maximus,
- you will need to follow the installation instructions included in the
- main mail door documentation (Chapter 5 in BWMAIL.DOC).
-
- *> If you currently have The Blue Wave Offline Mail Door v3.19 (Public Beta)
- installed on your system, no conversion process is necessary. If you are
- running Maximus-DOS, unpack the entire contents BWMAIL.ZIP over your
- current program files. If you are running Maximus-OS/2, unpack the
- entire contents of BWMAIL2.ZIP over your current program files. Both
- BWMAIL.ZIP and BWMAIL2.ZIP are enclosed in the main distribution archive
- (BW320MAX.ZIP).
-
- *> An upgrade installation is not possible if you are using version 3.01 or
- earlier. Please note the version of the mail door you are using BEFORE
- attempting an upgrade! If you are using v3.01 or earlier, you must either
- perform a new installation, or download BW311MAX.ZIP (DOS) or BW311MX2.ZIP
- (OS/2) from our BBS (+1-810-743-8464) and perform that upgrade first.
-
- 1) If you are currently running v3.1x of the mail door *and* Maximus 3.0x
- you may proceed with these upgrade instructions.
-
- 2) Make a backup of your current Blue Wave Mail Door directory.
-
- 3) You should find a file called 310TO320.EXE enclosed in this archive.
- This program will work under DOS only (OS/2 SysOps, please be sure
- to run this program from an OS/2 DOS session). Copy this file to
- your current mail door directory.
-
- 4) Change to your current mail door directory and get a listing of all
- .PRM files (dir *.prm). If you have more than one configuration file
- (BWMAIL.PRM), you need to run the conversion program once for each
- configuration file present. Otherwise, simply run 310TO320.EXE to
- convert your current mail door configuration. (The conversion program
- will attempt to convert all Max 2.x priv levels into ACS strings.)
-
- 5) After the conversion program successfully converts your configuration
- file(s), you will need to unpack the new mail door support files. If
- you are running the DOS mail door, unpack the entire contents of
- BWMAIL.ZIP into your mail door directory, overwriting all existing
- files (you have a backup, remember?). If you are running the OS/2
- mail door, use the contents of BWMAIL2.ZIP.
-
- 6) At this point the mail door upgrade is complete. You may delete the
- file 310TO320.EXE, as it is no longer needed.
-
-
- ===============================================
- Section IV: Mail Door Features and Limitations
- ===============================================
-
- *> The mail door fully supports all ACS (Access Control System) features
- described in the Maximus documentation when determining access to message
- and file areas.
-
- *> The mail door fully supports the following MailFlags, defined in the
- Maximus ACCESS.CTL file: ShowPvt, NetFree, MsgAttrAny, and WriteRdOnly.
-
- *> The mail door 'understands' the hierarchal message/file area system that
- Maximus 3.0x uses. However, the mail door does not yet present message
- areas for tagging in the manner which Maximus does while a user is online.
- This feature is intended to be implemented in a future release.
-
- *> If any one message area has an 'area number' with more than 9 characters
- (such as comp.os2.advocacy), the mail door will use dynamic area numbering
- (1 through n). This is due to the way in which the message areas are
- displayed during a message scan, and the way bundling commands need to
- be used. You simply cannot fit much information on an 80-column display.
-
- *> When scanning for new files since a user's last mail download, the mail door
- skips all areas flagged as "NoNew" in the Maximus file area configuration.
- This results in much faster new files scans when CD-ROMs are present on
- the system.
