  6. The Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver automatically enables fast Ultra ATA transfers for a variety of ATA/ATAPI mass storage devices such as hard disk drives and CD-ROMs.  This driver has been architected to take advantage of the latest Intel Ultra ATA controller features to improve both storage subsystem performance and overall system performance.  Driver installation is fully automated for Microsoft* Windows* 98, Microsoft* Windows* NT* 4.0, and Microsoft* Windows* 2000.

  8. System Requirements
  9. ===================
  10. Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000 (any Service Pack)
  11. Intel 80801AA, 82801AB, or 82801BA controllers

  13. Basic Installation Instructions
  14. ===============================
  15. - Run SETUP.EXE and answer all prompts
  16. - You will be prompted to reboot when installation is complete
  17.  
  18. Note:  By default, all general files (README.TXT, etc.) are copied to the
  19.        path <bootdrive>:\Program Files\Intel\Ultra ATA Storage Driver

  21. Verifying Correct Installation
  22. ==============================
  23. Microsoft Windows 98:  
  24.   - Run 'Start', 'Settings', then 'ControlPanel'
  25.   - Double-click 'System' Control Panel Application
  26.   - Select the 'Device Manager' tab
  27.   - Expand the 'Hard Disk Controllers' entry
  28.   - Select either the 'Primary' or 'Secondary' controller listed
  29.   - Select the 'Properties' button
  30.   - Select the 'Driver' tab
  31.   - Select the 'Driver File Details' button
  32.   - 'INTELATA.MPD' and 'INTELVSD.VXD' should be displayed

  34. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:
  35.   - Run Start/Settings/ControlPanel
  36.   - Double-click SCSI Adapters
  37.   - Select the Devices tab
  38.   - 'IntelATA' or 'Intel Ultra ATA Controller' should be displayed

  40. Microsoft Windows 2000:  
  41.   - Run 'Start', 'Settings', then 'ControlPanel'
  42.   - Double-click 'System' Control Panel Application
  43.   - Select the 'Hardware' tab
  44.   - Select 'Device Manager' button
  45.   - Expand the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers' entry
  46.   - Select the 'Intel 82801XX Ultra ATA Controller' listed,
  47.     where XX in 82801XX represents the controller identified by the 
  48.     'System Requirements' section of this document. 
  49.   - Select the 'Properties' button
  50.   - Select the 'Driver' tab
  51.   - Select the 'Driver File Details' button
  52.   - 'INTELATA.SYS' should be displayed

  55. Advanced Installation Instructions
  56. ==================================
  57. The following  SETUP flags are available:
  58.   -?           Help information for the setup flags (shown below)
  59.   -S           Silent install (no user prompts)
  60.   -B           Forces a system reboot after installation
  61.   -P <path>    Supplies target installation path
  62.   -A           Extracts all driver files (does not install driver) to <path>
  63.                if -P is also supplied, or the default directory otherwise
  64.   -N           Installs all components except driver
  65.   -O <name>    Supplies target Start Menu Program Folder name if installing
  66.                Companion applet
  67.   -L<number>   Forces a particular language install (See the product
  68.                documentation for a table mapping <number> to language)
  69.   -build       Displays build number
  70.   -back        Sets up a full windowed installer
  71.   -nocompanion Prevents the installation of the Companion application
  72.  
  73. Notes:  Flags and their parameters are not case-sensitive.  
  74.         Flags may be supplied in any order, with the exception of the -S and
  75.         -L flags which must be supplied last.
  76.         When using the -A flag, a target path may be specified via the -P
  77.         flag, and the -O, -L, -S, and -N flags are ignored.
  78.         When using the -P or -O flags, a space is required between the flag
  79.         and the argument; when using -L, however, there should be no space.

To load the driver via the method outlined in the Microsoft document, "Deployment Guide Automating Windows NT Setup," use the supplied TXTSETUP.OEM file included in this driver package and insert the lines below into the UNATTEND.TXT file.  This method is available for both Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Microsoft Windows 2000. (The TXTSETUP.OEM, INTELATA.INF, and INTELATA.SYS file need to first be extracted from the compressed .CAB file. To extract these files, run 'SETUP -A -P <path>' as described above.)

  105. Removing the Software

  107. - Run Start/Settings/ControlPanel
  108. - Select the Add/Remove button
  109. - Select the "Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver" for removal
  110. - Click on Yes when the script prompts for confirmation
  111. - The uninstall script will prompt you to restart the system
