  12. - What is TaskPriHandler ?
  13.  
  14. TaskPriHandler implements dynamic task priority to the Amiga.
  15. The main advantage is that all 'batch' tasks in need of a lot of CPU resource
  16. won't slow down interactive tasks.
  17. Packing a large amount of files is a good example of a 'batch' task.
  18. In general, if you try to use some other programs while packing you will
  19. get only half of the CPU time. With TaskPriHandler you won't feal that
  20. you are packing in the background.

  22. - How to install TaskPriHandler ?
  23.  
  24. Simply add 'TaskPriHandler' to your startup-sequence.
  25. (Every task added before this point won't have dynamic priority.)

  27. - How does it work ?
  28.  
  29. Every task of a priority from -128 to 0 will be taken as dynamic tasks.
  30. Tasks with a priority higher than 0 will be treated as real-time tasks.

  32. Every second TaskPriHandler will evaluate the priority of all the dynamic
  33. tasks, depending of the CPU resource used by each task.
  34. If a task uses a lot of CPU resource then it's priority will go down.

  36. - Is there a problem ?

  38. Yes, there is a slight problem :(
  39. If you start a first batch task, then it's priority will go down.
  40. Then you launch a second batck task. It's priority will be higher than
  41. the first one. So only the second task will be running. After some time
  42. the priority of the first task will be higher, and the priority of the
  43. second task lower. The first task will run for 1 seconde, then the second
  44. task for one second, etc ... After some time the two priority will be the
  45. same, so both tasks will be running 'continuously'. (I hope you understand:)
  46. This problem appears also when you run a 'batch' task in the background
  47. and in the same time you are using intensively an interactive task.
  48. (for example, scrolling in a texteditor continuously). Your interactive task
  49. will hang during one second the continue, hang again, continue etc...
  50. I've been using TaskPriHandler for some month now, and wasn't much affected
  51. by this problem....
