  1. WELCOME TO THE PAGESTREAM 3.1 PRE-RELEASE BETA 5 UPDATE!

  4. You must have PageStream 3.1 beta 4 installed to use this file! If you
  5. have an earlier version, you must upgrade to 3.1 beta 4 before you can
  6. upgrade to beta 5.
  7.  
  8. This update requires disk 1 of your original PageStream3 disk set. It
  9. will not be modified by the update.
  10.  
  11. You must have sufficient free hard drive space to use this patch. 4MB of
  12. free space is recommended.

  15. USING THIS PATCH
  16.  
  17. IF YOU HAVE 5MB OR MORE OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to
  18. RAM and not worry about memory limitations.
  19.  
  20. IF YOU HAVE 4MB OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to RAM, but
  21. you must delete the archives from RAM before running the patch. (Copy
  22. them somewhere safe in case you need them again!)
  23.  
  24. IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 4MB OF FREE RAM, you must decompress the archives
  25. to a hard drive directory because you'll need all your RAM for the patch.
  26.  
  27. A drawer called "3.1Beta5" will be created when you decompress the
  28. patches. Double click on the Install-3.1Beta5 icon in this drawer to
  29. begin.

  32. YOU SHOULD KEEP A COPY OF THE PATCH FILES UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE
  33. SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THIS UPDATE IN CASE YOU NEED TO RUN IT AGAIN. If
  34. you delete them after decompressing them, and something goes wrong during
  35. patching, you will have to download them again! If you have adequate hard
  36. drive space, simply select the PageStream3 directory and choose Copy from
  37. the Workbench's Icon menu to make a complete duplicate of your
  38. PageStream3 directory. If you have a problem with the patch, you will
  39. have a backup to restore.

  41. LOW MEMORY NOTES: If you do not have enough memory to install this patch
  42. (the patch utility will fail if there is not enough free memory), you can
  43. conserve memory by decompressing the patch archives to your hard drive
  44. instead of to RAM:. If the patch fails due to low memory, you will not be
  45. able to use PageStream3 until you have successfully installed the patch
  46. because you will then have a mixture of new and old files. If you need to
  47. run the patch manually, decompress the PGSpatch.LHA archive. Use the
  48. spatch utility from this archive. The command syntax is:

  50. spatch -oPageStream3:PageStream3.1 -pPageStream.pch PageStream3:PageStream3
  51.  
  52. The first parameter is the new version, the second parameter is the
  53. patch file name (include the path if required), and the third
  54. parameter is the currently installed version of PageStream3. Delete
  55. the old PageStream3:PageStream3 file when you're done and then rename the
  56. new version to the normal name (ie, PageStream 3.1 to PageStream3).

  58. If you have previously compressed the PageStream3 or BME program files
  59. with something such as PowerPacker, you will probably not be able to use
  60. this patch, even if you decompress them.
