  5. TO UPGRADE FROM 3.1 BETA 1 (ENGLISH):

  7. You need only pgs31b21.lha.

  10. TO UPGRADE FROM 3.0i (ENGLISH):
  11.  
  12. You must have BME 2.0f installed. If you don't have this version,
  13. download pgs3itu2.lha (TuneUp 2) before installing beta 2!
  14.  
  15. - If you installed 3.0i from an online patch, you need:
  16.   pgs31b22.lha and pgs31b23.lha.
  17.  
  18. - If you installed 3.0i from disk, you need:
  19.   pgs31b22.lha and pgs31b24.lha.

  22. TO UPGRADE FROM 3.0i (GERMAN):
  23.  
  24. There will not be German betas of 3.1. If you wish to use the English
  25. beta until the German 3.1 version is released, these patch files will
  26. upgrade your 3.0i German installation to 3.1 beta 2.

  28. - You need pgs31b22.lha and pgs31b25.lha.

  31. IMPORTANT!
  32.  
  33. This update requires disk 1 of your original PageStream3 disk set. It
  34. will not be modified by the update.
  35.  
  36. You must have sufficient free hard drive space to use this patch. 4MB of
  37. free space is recommended.
  38.  
  39. If you're not sure what version of PageStream or BME you have installed,
  40. run it and check the version number in the About requester. Note that 3.1
  41. beta 1 shows up as just 3.1 in the About requester.

  44. MORE IMPORTANT!!
  45.  
  46. After you have downloaded the required files, decompress them. If your
  47. version requires two files, decompress both to the same directory.
  48. Double-click the 3.1Beta2 icon to display the contents of this directory.
  49. Double-click the Install-Beta2 icon.
  50.  
  51. If have a verison older than 3.0i, you must upgrade to it first. You must
  52. also have BME 2.0f installed before installing this patch. BME 2.0f was
  53. included in TuneUp 2 (PGS3ITU2.LHA). If you didn't install that tuneup,
  54. you must do so before upgrading to 3.1 pre-release beta 1.

  57. EVEN MORE IMPORTANT!!!
  58.  
  59. This version of PageStream 3.1 is a BETA version. Do not use this:
  60.  
  61.  - If you are uncomfortable using beta software
  62.  - You need to do production work
  63.  - You don't know how to backup and reinstall 3.0i in case you need
  64.    to use it for production work
  65.  
  66. We do not guarantee that this version is usable for production work.
  67. Heck, no software's warranty guarantees its merchantability or fitness
  68. for any type of work. But this is a beta, and we really mean it. So if
  69. after installing this beta you find out that it won't print, or that it
  70. crashes, or that little dancing panda bears appear on the screen when you
  71. try to draw a box, don't complain that you didn't back up 3.0i. The ONLY
  72. reasons you should be using this version are:
  73.  
  74.  - You think that finding bugs in pre-release versions is a good idea
  75.    because the final version will be better as a result of your testing.
  76.  - You absolutely can't wait any longer to try 3.1.
  77.  - You didn't back up 3.0i when you installed 3.1 beta 1 and have been
  78.    counting the days until beta 2. ;-)

  81. USING THIS PATCH
  82.  
  83. IF YOU HAVE 5MB OR MORE OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to
  84. RAM and not worry about memory limitations.
  85.  
  86. IF YOU HAVE 4MB OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to RAM, but
  87. you must delete the archives from RAM before running the patch. (Copy
  88. them somewhere safe in case you need them again!)
  89.  
  90. IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 4MB OF FREE RAM, you must decompress the archives
  91. to a hard drive directory because you'll need all your RAM for the patch.
  92.  
  93. A drawer called "3.1Beta1Update" will be created when you decompress the
  94. patches. All three archives contain this Read.1st! file, so your
  95. decompression program will ask if you it is ok to overwrite the first
  96. Read.1st! file; this is normal. Double click on the Install-3.1Beta1 icon
  97. in this drawer to begin.

  99. YOU SHOULD KEEP A COPY OF THE PATCH FILES UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE
  100. SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THIS UPDATE IN CASE YOU NEED TO RUN IT AGAIN. If
  101. you delete them after decompressing them, and something goes wrong during
  102. patching, you will have to download them again! If you have adequate hard
  103. drive space, simply select the PageStream3 directory and choose Copy from
  104. the Workbench's Icon menu to make a complete duplicate of your
  105. PageStream3 directory. If you have a problem with the patch, you will
  106. have a backup to restore.
  107.  
  108. TECHNICAL NOTES: this update will patch the PageStream3 and BME program
  109. files in your PageStream3: directory. Every other file changed from 3.0i
  110. is included. If you purchased an add-on module such as the TrueType font
  111. engine, it may be patched to be compatible with this version.
  112.  
  113. LOW MEMORY NOTES: If you do not have enough memory to install this patch
  114. (the patch utility will fail if there is not enough free memory), you can
  115. conserve memory by decompressing the patch archives to your hard drive
  116. instead of to RAM:. If the patch fails due to low memory, you will not be
  117. able to use PageStream3 until you have successfully installed the patch
  118. because you will then have a mixture of 3.1 and earlier files. If you
  119. need to run the patch manually, decompress the PGSpatch.LHA archive found
  120. in the pgs31b11.lha file. Use the spatch utility from this archive. The
  121. command syntax is:

  123. spatch -oPageStream3:PageStream3.1 -pPageStream.pch PageStream3:PageStream3
  124.  
  125. The first parameter is the new version, the second parameter is the
  126. patch file name (include the path if required), and the third
  127. parameter is the currently installed version of PageStream3. Delete
  128. the old PageStream3:PageStream3 file when you're done and then rename the
  129. new version to the normal name (ie, PageStream 3.1 to PageStream3).

  132. If you have previously compressed the PageStream3 or BME program files
  133. with something such as PowerPacker, you will probably not be able to use
  134. this patch, even if you decompress them.
