- Introduction:
- ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
- FunFont is a replacement font system for use with AMirc.
-
- It can be used a number of ways...
-
- 1:Replacement font.
-
- Get rid of that boring font and replace it with a new-look font
- that is proportional (so letters are correctly spaced), and has
- been designed to look good in bold, underlined and reverse.
-
- 2:Figlet improver.
-
- Figlets (and predrawn graphics) look better, as the standard
- characters used have been redesigned to "fit together" better.
-
- 3:Realtime graphics.
-
- Smileys :) are fine, but have'nt you wanted a bit more? Well now
- you can embelish your sentences with a variety of realtime graphics.
-
- 4:Predrawn graphics.
-
- In the past, designing predrawn graphics was very difficult as you
- were resticted to using a small number of innapropriate characters
- like forward slashes (/). Funfont has a range of carefully designed
- building blocks that will give your creative talents a new lease of
- life!
-
-
-
- Installation:
- ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
- Just double-click the FunFont icon and follow the instructions.
- This tool can be used to Install, Uninstall and view this Doc.
-
- Once FunFont is installed, launch AMirc and follow these instructions...
-
- 1: From the pulldown menu select "Settings/MUI Settings" or from the
- window gadget select "Settings"...see diagram below.

-
-
-
-
-
- 2: Go to the "Windows" page and change the normal font to "FunFont/9"
-
- 3: Go to the "Listviews" page and change the normal font to "FunFont/9"
-
- 4: Click on "Save". (or "Use" if you just want to test FunFont out).
-
- Note: I did'nt automate the above part of the installation proceedure
- in order to preserve your window settings in AMirc.
-
-
-
- Usage:
- ¯¯¯¯¯
- There now follows a couple of tables detailing the keystrokes required
- to display the relevant graphics.
-
- It is important to remember that the tables are case sensetive, for
- example "Alt-S" means press "Alt" and "Shift" "S" (capital).
-
- Keystrokes with "-" signifies that you should press keys together, for
- example "Alt-g S" means press "Alt" and "g", release, then press "Shift"
- and "s".
-
- I have laid the tables out horizontally so that you can cut the text out
- to use during your IRC sessions.
-
- Realtime Graphics:
-
- These graphics have the easiest keystrokes, and have been designed to be
- used during your IRC sessions. Of course you may use the building block
- graphics aswell.

- Predrawn Graphics:
-
- These graphics have been specifically designed for the construction
- of predrawn pictures which can then be sent to the IRC channel.
-
- To make it easier for you to create your own pictures, most of the
- characters conform to a nine point space so that the characters
- behave like building blocks...
-
- Characters marked with "?" are one pixel in width, and are used for
- filling in gaps, allignment and wiggly lines (àÎÎàáâýýÿÿýýâá).
-
- Here are a few examples I have knocked up...(btw I'm no ansi-artist).

-
- How do they do that ?
- ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
- Well like most illusions, Ã uses a very simple idea. The ÀÁ stores
- it's font characters in one of 256 possible locations, all I have done
- is to replace the unused symbols with graphics...simple eh?
-
- Something I should stress (although it will be obvious to most) is that
- for à to be a success, the other people on the channel must have Ã
- installed aswell, and...all the graphics are in exactly the same location.
-
- Normal text/figlets will of course look okay to non-FunFont users, so I
- would suggest that you spread this package to as many users as possible.
-
- Hopefully à will take off and be a success, but until it does, I have set
- up a channel (FunFont) on DALNET were you can experiment and share advice
- with other à users.
-
-
-
- The Future:
- ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
- I have tried my best to design appropriate graphics to suite most people
- and uses, however you're never going to please everyone, so I will be
- releasing updates on the 1st of every month to reflect the feedback that
- will hopefully be recieved. If you would like to see different graphics
- or perhaps a different font for the letters, then let me know µ.
-
- As you can see from my attemps above, I'm not a particularly good
- ansi-artist þ so it would be great to see some à artwork from some more
- accomplished graphicians....just send 'em Ç
-
- I would also like to enlist the help of any budding programmers/script
- writters to help improve this product...
-
- 1:Improve the installation script to update the "Amirc.1.prefs" file
- without destroying the other settings contained in it.
-
- 2:Write an interactive .guide file that could show pictures (like before
- and after etc), and to remove the annoying one pixel line-space that
- Multiview seems to do.
-
- 3:I can't find keystrokes to access characters 0-31 and 127-159. Cracking
- this problem would give us an additional 64 characters º
-
- 4:How about doing a version especially for .guides with freqently used
- phrases given the à treatment...?
-
-
- Extras:
- ¯¯¯¯¯ÿÿÿ
-
- I've included a couple of extra files which will compliment à and can be
- found in the dir you unarchived to.
-
- Send.AMIRX is an arex script to send a text file to the channel. Just put
- it in your AMirc/Rexx dir, to use .... /rx send "full path to file"
-
- FunFont.flf is a Figlet font I have done that takes advantage of the extra
- characters in FunFont. Just put it with your other Figlet-fonts.
