  3. Notice to Educational Institution's Authorized Users
  4.  
  5. IMPORTANT NOTICE
  6. PLEASE READ BEFORE USING THE SOFTWARE
  7.  
  8.     The [University] has been granted a non-exclusive and
  9. non-transferable license to make an unlimited number of copies exactly
  10. like the original delivered to the [University] of Java WorkShop in
  11. machine-readable, binary and/or byte code form, together with the
  12. accompanying documentation ("Software"), for use in the [University]'s
  13. "domain" by the [University]'s faculty, employees, consultants and
  14. currently enrolled students ("Authorized Users") and only for
  15. degree-granting activities of the [University] and its Authorized
  16. Users, including research on the development of curricula, course
  17. instruction, course work, degree-related research, and directly
  18. related administrative support. The [University]'s "domain" means
  19. Licensee's sites that provide educational and support services
  20. directly to Authorized Users (including the [University]'s main and
  21. satellite campuses and offices) and nomadic computing by Authorized
  22. Users who link into the [University]'s network. The [University] may
  23. print an unlimited number of copies of the on-line documentation for
  24. use only by Authorized Users, so long as all of Sun's proprietary
  25. rights notices are reproduced on the printed documentation.
  26.     You may incorporate the binary runtime modules identified in
  27. the on-line README file (the "Modules") of the Software into your Java
  28. application software programs ("Applications") that you develop using
  29. the Software, so long as you: (1) incorporate and distribute the
  30. Modules complete and unmodified only as part of, and for the sole
  31. purpose of running your Applications; (2) do not distribute additional
  32. software intended to replace any component(s) of the Module; (3) do
  33. not remove or alter any proprietary legends or notices contained in
  34. the Module; (4) prohibit users of your Application from modifying,
  35. decompiling, disassembling, decrypting, extracting, reducing to
  36. human-readable form or otherwise reverse engineering the Module; (5)
  37. include the following notice in your Applications somewhere that is
  38. conspicuous to the user of your Applications: "Portions 1997 Sun
  39. Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved. Such portions are subject to
  40. certain licenses and restrictions that are incorporated herein by
  41. reference."; and (6) agree to defend, indemnify and hold Sun and its
  42. licensors harmless against any claims or lawsuits, including
  43. attorneys' fees, that arise or result from the use or distribution of
  44. your Applications.
  45.     YOU MAY NOT SELL THE APPLICATIONS THAT YOU DEVELOP USING THE
  46. SOFTWARE.
  47.     You may not modify the Java Platform Interface ("JPI",
  48. identified as classes contained within the "java" package or any
  49. subpackages of the "java" package), by creating additional classes
  50. within the JPI or otherwise causing the addition to or modification of
  51. the classes in the JPI. If you do create any Java-related API and
  52. distribute such API to others for applet or application development,
  53. you must promptly publish broadly, an accurate specification for such
  54. API for free use by all developers of Java-based software.
  55.     The Software is copyrighted and title to all copies is
  56. retained by Sun and/or its licensors. Except as specifically
  57. authorized, you may not (1) modify, decompile, disassemble, decrypt,
  58. extract, reduce to human-readable form or otherwise reverse engineer
  59. the Software or (2) unbundle, or make available separately by itself,
  60. any part of the Software. Sun owns the Java trademark and all
  61. Java-related trademarks, logos and icons including the Coffee Cup and
  62. Duke ("Java Marks"). The [University] and its Authorized Users may not
  63. use any Sun name, trademark or logo, and must: (1) comply with the
  64. Java Trademark Guidelines at http://java.sun.com/trademarks.html; (2)
  65. not do anything harmful to or inconsistent with Sun's rights in the
  66. Java Marks; and (3) assist Sun in protecting those rights, including
  67. assigning to Sun any rights in any Java Mark.
