  1.                    F-PROT Year 2000 compliance statement

  3. The F-PROT anti-virus program only processes dates in the following ways:
  4.  
  5. 1)  When generating a report, it requests the current date from the
  6.     operating system and displays it. If the operating system reports the
  7.     wrong date after 1/1/2000, F-PROT will too.
  8.  
  9. 2)  The databases included with F-PROT have a limited "lifespan" - The
  10.     program calculates the difference between the current date and the
  11.     release date, and if it is greater than one year, F-PROT will refuse to
  12.     work, saying it is too old to be of use.  For this reason, no version of
  13.     F-PROT released before Jan. 1. 1999 will operate after Jan. 1. 2000.
  14.     Depending on the update scedule, we would expect the version in
  15.     distribution on Jan. 1. 2000 to be one that will be released in
  16.     September 1999 or later.  If the operating system reports the wrong
  17.     date after 1/1/2000, F-PROT may refuse to work.

  19. In other words, F-PROT is fully Year-2000 compliant, provided that:
  20.  
  21.     1) The computer itself is.
  22.  
  23.     2) The correct date is reported by the operating system.
  24.  
  25.     3) The user is using an up-to-date version of the program.
