- I. Introduction to Intel Connect
-
- This version of Intel Connect was developed and tested for
- use with voice modems that are compliant with the Microsoft TAPI
- standard. Intel Connect operates on Microsoft Windows95.
-
- II. Platform Notes
-
- For All Modems ----------
-
- While you can forward voice messages to other mailboxes,
- forwarding a voice message to a phone line is not available.
-
- Since forwarding a voice message to a phone line is not
- available, if you want to forward a message which contains
- both a voice component and a fax component to a phone line,
- you must first detach the voice portion of the message.
- The fax portion of the message can then be successfully forwarded
- to a phone line.
-
- Call Screening works completely only when it has been enabled
- before a call begins. This means you cannot turn it on or off
- while the modem is playing voice prompts or recording an in-
- bound message, and have your change to Call Screening mode
- take effect immediately. However, you can turn on Call
- Screening while a voice prompt is playing and Call Screening will
- take effect when the next prompt (or message) starts to play.
-
-
- For Rockwell Modems ----------------
-
- After you click "PICKUP", it is normal for you to hear the dial tone
- volume drop after a few seconds.
-
-
- For Sierra Modems ----------------
-
- Sierra modems perform incoming fax tone (CNG) detection only while
- voice prompts or greetings are being played to the caller after
- answering. It does not detect this tone during speakerphone operation
- nor during voice message recording. Because of this, make sure your
- greeting and prompts are at least 12 seconds long, to give the modem a
- chance to recognize that your caller is sending a fax. Also, it is wise
- to provide about 4 seconds of silence at the end of your greeting WAVE
- file when using Intel Connect's "answering machine mode", since only
- the "answering machine greeting" is played prior to starting message
- recording.
-
- Intel Connect's "persistent dialing" feature cannot be used because busy
- tone detection is not available during speakerphone operation.
-
- To ensure optimum speakerphone quality, the software causes the modem to
- "train" itself for the telephone line conditions the first time you make
- a call using the speakerphone. This is indicated by the status "Training"
- in the status window. The training takes about 20 seconds, after which
- you may continue your call.
-
- The modem does not currently support recording a conversation.
-
-
- For Lucent Technologies Modems ----------------
-
- On older versions of these modems, Intel Connect's "persistent
- dialing" feature cannot be used because busy tone detection is
- not available during speakerphone operation.
-
- A slight "clicking" between voice prompts is audible to callers.
-
- The modem does not currently support recording a conversation.
-
- Certain music on-hold WAVE files cause the modem to believe that
- dial tone is present. This causes Intel Connect to hang up the
- current speakerphone call.
