You can view the compared files as one combined file by dragging the splitter bar to the edge of the display window.
You can view file differences three different ways: side-by-side, top-on-bottom, or combined. Select Split Vertically, Split Horizontally, or Show Together from the Windows menu.
You can display or hide the toolbar. Select Workstation from the Options menu. Then check Display Toolbar in the Options dialog.
You can display or hide the status bar. Select Workstation from the Options menu. Then check Display Toolbar in the Options dialog.
You can drag the toolbar to a new location. If that location is an edge of the Visual Diff main window, the toolbar docks there. Otherwise it becomes a floating toolbar, which you can move and resize as a window.
You can display the differences between compared files with or without displaying their matching lines. (This also affects what is printed and charted.) Select the Display tab from the Options dialog. Check or uncheck Display Differences Only.
In print preview, you see the differences in color only if you have a color printer/driver.
Press Ctrl+O to start a comparison.
Press Ctrl+P to print the combined view of the compared files.
Press Ctrl+C to copy text to the clipboard.
Press Ctrl+F to find specific text in the files. You use F3 to find the next occurrence of the specified text.
Press F7 to find the previous difference between the compared files and F8 to find the next difference.
Press Shift+F7 to find the previous match between the compared files and Shift+F8 to find the next match.
You can change the tab settings in the displayed text from the Options dialog. Select the Display tab. Enter a number from 1 to 8.
You can display line numbers or print them using a checkbox in the Options dialog. Select the Display tab. Check or uncheck Show Line Numbers.
You can display or bypass the splash screen. Select the Display tab from the Options dialog. Check or uncheck Display Splash Screen.
You can change the font and font size for displayed text. Select the Display tab from the Options dialog. Click the Font button.
You decide whether or not Visual Diff ignores case, leading tabs, and leading spaces when it compares two files. Select the Compare tab from the Options dialog. Check or uncheck Ignore Case and Ignore Leading White Space.
You can display a chart showing the amounts of different and matching lines in the compared files. Click the Chart button on the toolbar.
Many editors will allow you to edit one or both of the files while viewing their differences in Visual Diff. When you return, Visual Diff automatically updates your view of their differences.
