  9. Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time is an interactive comedy show that
  10. gives you a chance to solve the secret to intergalactic success. Discover 
  11. the secret, and you can win a pentium-based multimedia computer and other

  18. INSTALLING THE COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME SAMPLER

  20. To install the Complete Waste of Time Sampler, select the File menu and 
  21. choose Run from the Program Manager. Type D:\SETUP (if necessary,
  22. replace D: with the letter that represents your CD-ROM drive) 
  23. in the Command Line and press ENTER. Follow the instructions 
  24. given in the installation program.

  26. To start Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time Sampler, double click the 
  27. Monty Python Sampler icon, which was created for you by the installation 
  28. program.

  31. KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS
  32.  
  33. The + and - keys provide a convenient means for raising and lowering
  34. the volume. Some sound boards do not support volume control, so
  35. these keys may not function in all cases.

  37. Use the spacebar to abort audio and video sequences.
  38.  
  39. The following key combinations can be used to replace mouse
  40. movements for certain activities and functions.

  46. COMMON PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
  47.  
  48. Problem:
  49.    The program seems to run slow and the video seems choppy in places.
  50.  
  51. Solution:
  52.    As with any program under Windows, the speed and the smoothness 
  53.    of the Monty Python program is dependent on the speed of the hardware 
  54.    that it is running on. Hardware configurations that affect performance 
  55.    are: the amount of memory and the speed of the video card, the processor 
  56.    type, the amount of real memory and the transfer rate of the CD-ROM 
  57.    drive. While the minimum system configuration required to run the Monty 
  58.    Python program is a 486 25 MHz computer with 4 MB of RAM, a video card 
  59.    capable of running 256 colors and a single-speed CD-ROM drive, the 
  60.    recommended system configuration is a 486 33 MHz computer with 8 MB of 
  61.    RAM, a video card with at least 256 colors, and a double-speed CD-ROM 
  62.    drive. You may be able to increase the performance of the program by 
  63.    upgrading one or all of these elements of your computer system, 
  64.    depending on what you already have.

  66. Problem:
  67.    When I try to run the Monty Python Sampler program, I get a "Not enough
  68.    memory" message.
  69.  
  70. Solution:
  71.    On a 4 MB system the Monty Python Sampler program requires 5 to 10 MB of 
  72.    virtual memory. For instructions on setting virtual memory, please 
  73.    consult your Windows documentation.

  75. Problem:
  76.   The program does not display properly.
  77.  
  78. Solution:
  79.    Make sure you have an SVGA display running in 640x480 or 
  80.    800x600 mode with 256 colors. Also, make sure that you have
  81.    the proper display driver installed. A display with more colors
  82.    or running at a higher resolution also will work with the Monty
  83.    Python program, although fades between scenes will not be
  84.    as smooth.

  86. Problem:
  87.    The program is working, but you don't hear any sound.
  88.  
  89. Solution:
  90.    Make sure your sound card is installed and working properly.
  91.    You can check the sound from your sound board by using the
  92.    Sound utility in the Control Panel. Choose one of the WAV files
  93.    in the Windows directory and click Test.

  95. Problem:
  96.    The sound or video skips during the program.
  97.  
  98. Solution:
  99.    Make sure you have at least 4 MB of RAM. Also, make sure
  100.    that an expanded memory manager (such as EMM386, QEMM or
  101.    386MAX) is not reserving memory that Windows and the Monty
  102.    Python program will need to run correctly.

  104. Problem:
  105.    The sound and video are not synchronized properly.

  107. Solution:
  108.    Make sure that you are running the Monty Python Sampler program on a 
  109.    486 25 MHz or better IBM-compatible computer with at least
  110.    4 MB of RAM.

  112. Problem:
  113.   The sound breaks up or has a lot of static.
  114.  
  115. Solution:
  116.    You may need to change the DMA setting on your sound card.
  117.    Please check the documentation for your sound card for the
  118.    proper settings and how to change the settings.

  121.    The volume is too low or too high.
  122.  
  123. Solution:
  124.    You can adjust the volume using the + and - keys within the 
  125.    Monty Python program.

  128.    The program seems to run extremely slow.

  131.    Make sure that you have a permanent swap file set up in Windows.
  132.    Please consult your Windows documentation for instructions
  133.    regarding your swap file settings.
