  5. THIS GRAPHICS DEVICE DRIVER AND THE MAINTENANCE FIXES ARE DESIGNED TO BE USED
  6. WITH THE OS/2*  PRODUCT.  YOU MUST BE A CURRENT LICENSEE OF OS/2  IN ORDER TO
  7. USE THIS PRODUCT.  THIS CODE IS NOT FINAL CODE AND IBM IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR
  8. ANY PROBLEMS THAT THE DEVICE DRIVER MAY CAUSE.  IBM ALSO IN NOT RESPONSIBLE
  9. FOR ANY SERVICE ON THESE DEVICE DRIVERS.

  14. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  15. -------------------------

  17.         PRELIMINARY STEPS:
  18.  
  19.          1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order to
  20.              install this driver.
  21.  
  22.          2.  The OS/2 ATTRIB command is used during installation.  If you
  23.              elected not to install the OS/2 System Utility Programs or you
  24.              have deleted the ATTRIB, command you must use Selective Install to
  25.              restore the ATTRIB command before continuing.
  26.  
  27.          3.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return to VGA resolution
  28.              using the new SETVGA procedure found at the end of this README
  29.              before you install this driver.
  30.  
  31.              The "Preliminary Steps" prepare your computer for the S3_864* graphics
  32.              accelerator driver.  If in the future you wish to change your display,
  33.              you will need to perform the "Preliminary Steps" again to "Configure
  34.              the Display Profile".  Next, you will need to issue the SVGA ON
  35.              command at a DOS command prompt to recreate the SVGADATA.PMI file
  36.              before you connect your new display to the computer.
  37.              IMPORTANT:  If you plan to install the OS/2 XGA* drivers, you will also
  38.              need to remove the SET DMQSPATH statement from your CONFIG.SYS file
  39.              prior to restarting the computer.

  41. INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  42. --------------------------
  43.  
  44. To install this Vision864* Device Driver from diskette:
  45.  
  46.     1.  Insert this diskette into drive A (or any other diskette drive).
  47.  
  48.     2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  49.  
  50.     3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following command:
  51.  
  52.         A:SETUP A: C:
  53.  
  54.              where:  A: is the diskette drive
  55.                      C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed
  56.  
  57.         This command will copy all necessary files to the OS/2 drive.
  58.  
  59.         Press Enter.
  60.  
  61.     4.  Remove the diskette from the diskette drive, perform a shutdown, and
  62.         then restart the system.
  63.  
  64.     5.  Open the "OS/2 System" folder.
  65.  
  66.     6.  Open the "System Setup" folder.
  67.  
  68.  
  69.     7.  Open the "Display Driver Install" object.
  70.  
  71.         When the Display Driver Install window appears, "S3_864 (32bit) (BBS)"
  72.         should be the default choice.  If it isn't, select it. Then select "OK".
  73.  
  74.         When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility window appears,
  75.         the "Install Using Defaults for Monitor Type" choice is preselected.
  76.         You can accept this choice or select "Install Using Display Adapter
  77.         Utility Program" to choose a different refresh rate.
  78.  
  79.         NOTE:  If you select the Install Using Display Adapter Utility
  80.                Program choice, follow the instructions on your screen.
  81.  
  82.      8. When the source directory pop-up window appears, insert the Vision864
  83.         Device Driver diskette and select Install.
  84.  
  85.         DSPINSTL determines the hardware configuration by creating the
  86.         SVGADATA.PMI file on the drive where the OS2 directory is located.
  87.         If the SVGADATA.PMI file has not been created, the adapter will not be
  88.         supported.
  89.  
  90.      9.  When the installation is completed, do the following:
  91.          a.  Open "OS/2 System".
  92.          b.  Open "System Setup".
  93.          c.  Open the "System" object.  The Screen page of the Settings
  94.              notebook lists all the supported resolutions for your
  95.              configuration.
  96.          d.  Select a resolution; then, close the notebook.
  97.  
  98.     10.  Perform a shutdown; then, restart the system.
  99.  
  100. Note that during the installation of this driver, a DISPLAY.LOG file is
  101. created in the OS2\INSTALL directory.  This file identifies the OS/2
  102. system files that were updated and indicates whether the installation was
  103. successful. The contents of this file might be useful if you need to report an
  104. installation problem to IBM.

  111. This graphics accelerator driver is compatible with OS/2 2.1 AND 2.11.  Do not
  112. use the driver on previous versions of OS/2 or OS/2 WARP v3.0.
