- HIDX 0.76
-
- Installation.
-
- Step 1.
-
- Unzip all files to c:\HIDX
-
- If you have unzipped to a different directory, create the
- directory HIDX on drive c: and copy the files there. There
- is no installation program at this time.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The documentation for HIDX is contained in the file HIDXDOC.HTM.
-
- You can read this with your WWW browser by opening it as a local
- file. In Netscape select Open File from the File menu, or press ctl-O.
-
- Most browsers are capable of printing the document, or saving
- it in text form for printing with a word processor.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- To connect or not to connect.
- ----------------------------
-
- It is not necessary to be connected to the net to read the documentation,
- although some links are available to the outside (e.g. getting the
- latest version and registering). If you have not figured out how
- to run your browser offline, you may want to do that now. The whole
- purpose of HIDX is to access local documents, and there is no point
- in paying by the hour to connect to the net when you don't need to.
-
- If you are not paying by the hour, you may as well connect.
-
- If you are using Trumpet, you can select Manual Login from the
- Scripts menu and press ESC to use your browser offline. If you
- find a link that you want to follow, it is only necessary to select
- Trumpet and log in with your usual procedure at that time.
-
- You can also use MOZOCK.DLL in place of WINSOCK.DLL as a dummy
- winsock, but that will not allow you to reconnect without
- restarting Windows. There are a number of other dummy winsocks
- available as freeware or shareware.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Please read the other text files for more information.
