  5. This document instructs how to use the Races demo, and contains
  6. other important information. Please read the instructions
  7. carefully.

  9. At <http://www.softlab-nsk.com> you can find an overall
  10. description of the project and the demo.  All proposals regarding
  11. development of virtual reality applications are welcome.

  29.                       Requirements
  30.  
  31. -   Pentium
  32.  
  33. -   vesa-compatible VGA card with at least 512K videoRAM. Vast
  34.     majority of modern videocards meet this criteria, so most likely
  35.     does yours. Some older cards require some program started
  36.     before the application, to provide vesa-compatible interface. (Do
  37.     not mix with vesa local bus - this is a different thing.)
  38.  
  39. -   8 Megabytes of RAM (6.5 free extended memory)
  40.  
  41. -   Mouse
  42.  
  43. -   DOS 5.0 or higher or Windows95. When Windows95 is used,
  44.     DOS mode is strongly recommended
  45.  
  46. -   DOS driver for the mouse. (Also needed in DOS mode of
  47.     Win95, but not in Win95 dos window.)
  48.  
  49. -   SoundBlaster-compatible sound card (optional, for sound effects)
  50.

  52.                  To get the demo running:
  53.  
  54.   1.To have sound effects, you should have your SB-compatible
  55.     card properly set up. This means that the board should be
  56.     configured, the drivers (if the board needs them) should be in
  57.     config.sys and the BLASTER environment variable should be set
  58.     properly.
  59.     The setup software that comes with the card usually arranges all
  60.     this for you.
  61.     Also, to have sound effects, edit file named carv.ini in the
  62.     subdirectory where the demo resides, and change line
  63.         sound=off
  64.         to
  65.         sound=on
  66.  
  67.   2.To start the demo enter:
  68.  
  69.         demo1.bat <enter>
  70.  
  71.                Command reference
  72.  
  73. Once you started the demo, use the following keys and actions to
  74. control it:
  75.  
  76. "The Wheel" -
  77.     Just drag your mouse left/right.
  78. To accelerate -
  79.     press left mouse button.
  80.     as you hold the button, it accelerates more
  81. To decelerate ("brakes") -
  82.     press right mouse button.
  83.     as you hold the button, it decelerates more
  84. To restart the demo -
  85.     press <escape> key to display the menu and hit RESTART in
  86.     the menu.
  87. To exit the demo -
  88.     press <escape> key to display the menu and hit QUIT in the
  89.     menu.
