The Automatic Update feature
allows administrators to download updated program files from our FTP site and distribute them quickly on multiple servers with no interaction.
Automatic Update operates by placing Command AntiVirus files in a unique parent directory in a shared location on the network. This directory is called the
automatic update directory
. The Automatic Update process compares the dates of the files on the Lotus Notes server with those in the
automatic update directory
. If the
automatic update directory
dates are newer, the server responds by automatically updating the Lotus Notes server with the newer program files. For more information on setting up the parent directory, see
Preparing the Automatic Update Directory
Update Configuration
document allows administrators to specify the server that is to be updated and the time that the update is to take place. You can update immediately, once at a specific time, or periodically at a specific time.
The following information is required:

Scheduling Options
have an

server that is to be updated.
When you create a new update job, the
Update Configuration
document is created with default information. You can either accept or modify the default settings and values. However, you
type in the full path and name of the
Automatic Update Directory
and your
Primary FTP User Name
and

. If you are using the
Secondary FTP Server Information
option, you
also type in your

As the distribution of mail is temporarily stopped when the files are being updated, updates should be completed during low-usage times. When the update is complete, the queued mail is scanned and then distributed.
Status
field at the top of the
Update Configuration

of the following:
Pending - CSAV has not yet processed this request.
Processing - CSAV is currently processing this job.
Launched - The CSSFTP process is running and files are being evaluated to see if they are up-to-date.
Processed - CSAV has completed processing the job.
Failed - CSAV did not complete the automatic update process.

Command AntiVirus (CSAV) for Lotus
Notes provides state-of-the-art virus protection and administrative options. Using the Lotus API, CSAV integrates directly with the core Lotus Notes document engine and transparently scans all documents for virus infection using Command Software's award-winning virus protection.
Command AntiVirus for Lotus Notes provides separate
Mail
On-Save Configuration
documents. This allows the administrator to select different options (
Delete
Disinfect
Quarantine
) for handling an infected file when a virus is detected. For example, you can choose to
Quarantine
all infected mail documents, and then choose to
Disinfect
all saved (
modified
replicated
) documents.
icrosoftWord RTF

CGM Imag
Note:
All
mail saved to the
sent
mail folder is handled as an
On-Save Configuration
document. However, if a virus is detected, CSAV sends a virus report only when the mail is sent
when the mail is saved.
The CSAV
Scheduled Scan
Configuration
document allows an administrator to scan all or some of the databases on a server at any time. Scans can be scheduled to run on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Under normal everyday operation, CSAV uses only a small
amount, approximately 2%,
of additional system resources to monitor documents for file attachments and to scan those files for infection.
Actual performance depends on the amount of file attachment traffic and virus infection. Scheduled scan and replication of documents with large numbers of file attachments increase the load on the server. To reduce the load, tasks can be scheduled to run during low-usage periods.

CGM Imag
Note:
System requirements for running Lotus Notes & Domino may vary depending on how many users you support. Command AntiVirus for Lotus Notes requires some additional resources, and if your users
frequently
send
large
files containing potentially infected data objects, you may need to upgrade your server's memory to accommodate the increase in load.
For example, a system with 5 users who regularly send large files back and forth will require more RAM and free disk space than a system with 100 users who rarely send files or other potentially infected objects.

Note:
To use the Automatic Update feature, Command AntiVirus must be installed on each Lotus Notes server.
Also, The server conducting the update must have
access to the shared Universal Naming Convention (UNC) location that contains the
automatic update directory
Creating the Automatic Update Directory
Automatic Update operates by placing Command AntiVirus update files in a unique parent directory in a shared location on the network. This directory is called the
automatic update directory
. The Automatic Update process compares the dates of the files on the Lotus Notes server with those in the
automatic update directory
. If the
automatic update directory
dates are newer, the server responds by automatically updating the Lotus Notes server with the newer program files. For example, if only the definition (*.DEF) files have changed since the last update, then only those files will be updated.
Component updates are not visible. At most, you may notice that the system runs a bit slower during the update process.
To create the
automatic update directory
, complete the following:
In a shared location on the network, create an
automatic update directory
to store the update files, for example:
\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE
Each time you start an on-demand or scheduled update through the
Update Configuration
document, CSAV does the following:
1. Creates a product, a definition, and a component files subdirectory, for example:
\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE\CSAV_LOTUSNOTES
\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE\CSAV_LOTUSNOTES\DEF
\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE\CSAV_LOTUSNOTES\COMP
When created automatically through the Automatic Update process, the name of the product directory is a specific number, and the name of the subdirectories are unique names. These numbers are assigned by the program and then interpreted by the CSSFILES.INI file. The following is an example of the path and name of the product, definition and component files subdirectories:
\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE\0603
\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE\0603\CSS43e.00
\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE\0603\CSS282.01
Note:
The definition files subdirectory ends in a
and the component files subdirectory ends in
2. Downloads the update files from our FTP site to the Windows
temporary directory. This directory is called the
staging directory
. Then, CSAV extracts the latest files and copies them to the appropriate subdirectories in the
automatic update directory
3.
Creates a file named CSSFILES.INI that contains the following information:
[Win32-CSAV_LotusNotes]
BaseDir=\\SERVER\SHARE\UPDATE\0603
DEFILES=CSS43e.00
COMPONT=CSS282.01
Remember, the name of the product directory is a specific number, and the name of the subdirectories are unique names.
Setting Administrative Rights
To insure that the automatic update completes properly, you must set the administrative rights of the server. To do this:
1. Go to the Lotus Notes workspace and double-click the
Name & Address Book
database icon.
2. From the navigator, select the
Server
folder.
3. From the
Server
folder, select

. The system displays the

4. In the view pane, double-click the appropriate server document. The system displays the server document.
5. Click the

button on the action bar.
6. In the
Administrators
field
, type in the server name/domain name of the server.
7. Click the
button on the action bar.
8. Click the

button on the action bar to exit.
Now, you are ready to specify the server and scheduling options in the
