  3.                 SHAMEFUL BEHAVIOUR OF V COMMUNICATIONS INC.

  6.         I wrote the patch included in this small package to help people
  7.         like me who are so unfortunate to use System Commander v3.0
  8.         produced by V Communications Inc. For those who don't
  9.         use System Commander just I will tell that it is a software
  10.         to manage many Operating Systems on one computer. The
  11.         version I installed on my computer is 3.0 and was released by
  12.         Generation X. I installed three Operating Systems and used
  13.         the program for about a month without problems. The bad
  14.         thing came when, one day, rebooting my computer appeared a
  15.         message from System Commander telling me (summing up):
  16.  
  17.         - that the "evaluation period" of the program was finished (!!);
  18.         - that System Commander is not shareware;
  19.         - that System Commander is not downloadable from Internet
  20.           or any BBS;
  21.         - that if I legally bought the program this message only
  22.           results from damage of System Commander files and
  23.           consequently I have only to REINSTALL the program.
  24.         - that I have given the chance to boot from one of the
  25.           Operating Systems to reinstall System Commander.
  26.         - that if I want to buy System Commander I should pay $90
  27.           and contact V Communications Inc.

  29.         It seemed a "normal situation" of the program. But:

  31.         1) I DID NOT HAVE the chance to chose the Operating System
  32.            to boot from. System Commander booted ONLY from the
  33.            first Operating System;
  34.  
  35.         2) I REINSTALLED the program and rebooting I found out that
  36.            NOTHING was changed! Again the message insinuating the
  37.            User is a thief!
  38.  
  39.         3) I LOST FOR EVER the chance to access the other
  40.            Operating Systems!

  42.         These are the facts. Now we can do some comments about this
  43.         disgusting situation. The thing I do not tolerate is the
  44.         behaviour outlined from V Communications Inc. Indeed if a
  45.         Software house wants to build a protection for his software
  46.         this is moral and allowed. But what is dishonest and
  47.         immoral is that the program first let you install himself
  48.         than let you install many Operating Systems and when IT
  49.         DECIDE NOT TO WORK you LOSE ALL YOUR WORK. You could LOSE
  50.         MONTHS OF WORK, no matter, IT WILL DO.

  52.         How can V Communications think that the destruction of
  53.         months of work can push someone to buy his programs ?
  54.  
  55.         How can V Communications think that his reputation can grow
  56.         when his programs destroy your work for only 90 miserable
  57.         dollars ?
  58.  
  59.         How can V Communications think that such dishonest behaviour
  60.         is "good" for the sake of money ?
  61.  
  62.         Fortunately, thanks to my back-up, I managed to rebuild my
  63.         system and to patch System Commander to never again do
  64.         this sort of "blackmail". The file PATCH.EXE will eliminate
  65.         the "blackmail". The patch is only suitable for version
  66.         3.0. It should be launched in your root directory and in
  67.         the directory where you installed System Commander (i.e.
  68.         all the directories that have the file SYSCMNDR.SYS). Note
  69.         that the file SYSCMNDR.SYS located in the root directory
  70.         must NOT have the hidden, system and read-only attribute
  71.         set.  You should use the command:
  72.         ATTRIB -H -S -R SYSCMNDR.SYS
