  34. This patch is for the Class release of Independence Day.  It became apparent
  35. to us that changes made in the CONFIG.EXE, provided with the release, did not
  36. have any effect on the configuration of the game.  Therefore, the game could
  37. not be enabled to use MMX or D3D.  Included in this patch, are 2 INI files
  38. as well as descriptions to each significant line in the ID4.INI file.
  39. Read the though the installation before you start!

  43. Unzip RVID4FIX.ZIP to a temporary directory.
  44.  
  45. Alright, two INI files have been included to start with:
  46.  
  47.         ID4-MMX.INI = runs game using MMX
  48.         ID4-D3D.INI = runs game using Direct 3D (Tested on the 3Dfx)
  49.  
  50. To enable MMX, copy the ID4_MMX.INI file to your Independence day directory.
  51. Rename the old ID4.INI to ID4.OLD, and rename the ID4_MMX.INI to ID4.INI
  52. The game will now run using MMX, if your processor is equipped (obviously).
  53. The proceedure is the same to enable Direct 3D, just use ID4_D3D.INI instead
  54. of ID4_MMX.INI
  55.  
  56. There are other options which are changed with CONFIG.EXE (which doesnt work)
  57. Edit the ID4.INI file to change other options.  Below is a list of changable
  58. options:

  62. LOD = 0                Level of Detail (0-2)
  63.  
  64. * For the next 4 options, it gets kind of tricky.  I dont suggest playing
  65. with these options unless you know which features your 3D Card has.
  66. If you have MMX, there is NO NEED to change these options from the INI
  67. provided.  Only change these if the D3D INI does not work for you.

  69. FILTER = 0             Texture Filtering (0-2)
  70. MIP = 0                Mipmapping (0-2)
  71. PERSP = 0              Perspective Correct Textures (0-2)
  72. TRANS = 0              Software Translucency (0-1)

  77. MODE = 1               MMX = 1 / D3D = 2  (There may be more, try it)

  85. The Direct3D INI was only tested on the 3Dfx Voodoo chipset, but it will
  86. work on the other direct 3D compatible cards if the 4 important options are
  87. properly setup.

  89. That should just about cover everything you could possibly want to change.
