  31. 1. READ THIS FIRST !!!

  33. Don't mix up "BUY" Programs with "TRY and BUY" Programs. Both
  34. use similar protection schemes but have to be treated totally
  35. different. If you want to register "TRY and BUY" Software see
  36. for the Registration System PC-RSAG - also from Pepper [PC].
  37.  
  38. PC-RSBUY is programmed in VB 3.0 and therefore needs some
  39. additional files (see Chapter 3). As VB 3.0 is a 16-bit
  40. program all files in the "Open File" are displayed with
  41. short filenames. Sample:

  43.     a file named "WonderfulWorld" is shown as "WONDER~1" 
  44.  
  45. If there are a few programs in the same folder having the
  46. same first 6 letters you may also see "WONDER~2" and so on.
  47. Anyway PC-RSBUY runs without problems in Windows 95.

  51. 2. Principle of BUY Program Protection
  52.  
  53. A BUY-Program is similar to so called "TRY and BUY" Software
  54. but cannot be run for a trial period. Often they are supplied 
  55. as a single EXE-File where no Installation is required. When
  56. started the EXE-File immediately a Registration dialog appears
  57. and the Program will finally be installed when a valid "Unlock
  58. Code" was entered.
  59.  
  60. In few cases the BUY-Software is supplied with an Installer
  61. but finally when started the installed Program the procedure
  62. is the same as with single EXE-Files.

  66. 3. Contents of PC-RSBUY Pack
  67.  
  68. PC-RSBUY is packed as a ZIP-file named PC-RSBUY.ZIP containing
  69.  
  70.    PC-RSBUY.EXE       The Main Program PC-RSBUY
  71.    PC-RSBUY.TXT       The Info-File you read at the moment
  72.    FILE_ID.DIZ        Shortcut of the Pack
  73.    PC.NFO             General Info of the Pack and of [PC]

  75. PC-RSBUY is written in VB3 and needs to have installed
  76. in your Windows System:

  78.    THREED.VBX     CMDIALOG.VBX     VBRUN300.DLL

  85. 4. Installation of PC-RSBUY
  86.  
  87. Copy PC-RSBUY on your harddisk wherever you want. Create an
  88. Icon on your Win95 Desktop as usual for easy access.

  92. 5. Use of PC-RSBUY
  93.  
  94. Before running PC-RSBUY you should know name and location of
  95. the Program you want to register. Use the property function
  96. of the Program icon (right mouse click) or use the Explorer
  97. or File Manager to check the folders on your harddisk.
  98.  
  99. Now start PC-RSBUY. Click on the button "Select" and you get
  100. an "Open File" menue. Select the appropriate drive and folder
  101. as usual to find the Program you want to register. When found
  102. click OK and check the Status line on the bottom. PC-RSBUY
  103. has scanned the Program selected and if detected to be BUY-File
  104. has also checked and scanned for the BUY-Type.
  105.  
  106. If no BUY-Type was found you may use a TRY and BUY Program
  107. or an unknown Type (see Chapter 7 for more).
  108.                                             
  109. You will see the button "Patch" enabled now. Click on "Patch"
  110. and the buttons "Run" and "Clean" are enabled. Always a Copy
  111. of the Original Program named PC-BUY.EXE is made and patched.
  112. Later (or now) you can click on "Clean" to delete PC-BUY.EXE
  113.  
  114. To start the registration click on "Run". Now PC-BUY.EXE is
  115. launched and runs like the original but you will be able to
  116. register now (see Chapter 6). Lets assume you have done the
  117. registration and closed the Program you are back at PC-RSBUY.
  118.  
  119. Remark: some Programs cannot be registered on the first time
  120. and need a second start. If so, close the Program and when
  121. back to PC-RSBUY click on "Run" a second time. Now complete
  122. the registration, close the now registered Program and you
  123. are back at PC-RSBUY. Now you may register further installed
  124. Programs, quit or better clean up. It is recommended to
  125. click on "Clean" because that will delete PC-BUY.EXE
  126.  
  127. You do no longer need any patch or backup after successful 
  128. registration. Hence your Program always is REALLY registered
  129. including License File. If you later will uninstall the
  130. Program and install again it remains registered. Thats
  131. typical for "SalesAgent". You only lose the license when
  132. reinstalling Windows 95 or crash your Registry. If so run
  133. PC-RSBUY again...

  137. 6. Register Protected Programs Step by Step
  138.  
  139. The following is typical for all BUY-Programs protected by
  140. internal "SalesAgent":
  141.  
  142. - Fill in the "User Registration" - some fields must be filled
  143.   others can be left free, so try until the button "Continue"
  144.   works
  145. - Jump over the next screen till "Select Payment Method"
  146. - Often its your choice to select by Visa or by Check (Mail).
  147.   If only Payment by CreditCard is possible select Visa and
  148.   enter 1234-1234-1234-1378 for a valid Card Number, 09/99
  149.   for valid until and Visa as Card Name.
  150. - Select Communications Method and there "Order by Mail"
  151. - Click on "Done" and you are back in your Program
  152. - Close the Program and run a second time
  153. - Now type in 10 digits like 1234512345 - click on OK...
  154.   If you are not registered try to enter less or more than 10
  155.   digits until you are registered. That may not take more than
  156.   20 trials.
  157.   
  158. If you selected Communications Method "by Phone" you will be
  159. immediately asked for an "Unlocking Code". Try as above but you
  160. may sometimes not get registered. If so, select Re-Register and
  161. use Payment Method "by Mail". See Chapter 7 why not all methods
  162. will work and why a Scan/Patch is not possible for all in one.
  163.  
  164. In few cases you will only have the choice to register Online.
  165. If so you will NOT be able to register with a patched Program.
  166.  
  167. After you have registered ONE Program your datas entered at
  168. "User Registration" are stored, also your "Method of Payment".
  169. Next time you register another Program the procedure is shorter.
  170. So try and select the method you prefer. Click on "Re-Register"
  171. to change the datas or methods.

  175. 7. FAQ - Troubleshooting
  176.  
  177. Q: Why does the patch not eliminate the VisaCard Number
  178. query and why is it still necessary to enter the correct
  179. length of a Dummy for the "Unlocking Code" and the "right"
  180. Payment Method ?
  181.  
  182. A: The BUY-Programs have the "SalesAgent" inside and so it
  183. is not possible to create an external "Crack DLL" like for
  184. the "TRY and BUY" types. That means BUY-Programs are far away
  185. from a "Standard" form and are much more difficult to scan. 
  186. A scan may find the place where to patch the above mentioned
  187. subjects but will not be very reliable. So it was decided
  188. only to scan for the most important: to make the registration
  189. possible with any Code if the length matches.
  190.  
  191. Thats also the reason why the suitable Communication Method
  192. is not predictable. The Scan of a BUY-File searches for typical
  193. Byte sequences. They may be associated with different Methods.
  194. Anyway it was found that the Patch will work with one of the
  195. accessable Methods. So in worst case you have to try 2 Payment
  196. Methods (by Phone and by Mail) and have to enter between 1 and
  197. 20 digits for a Unlocking Code.
  198.  
  199. Q: Will PC-RSBUY run in Windows NT ?
  200.  
  201. A: Not tested, but is supposed to work with NT 4.0
  202.  
  203. Q: Is there really no problem with long File Names ?
  204.  
  205. A: Not yet observed - but run Scandisk what is recommended
  206. to be done regularly.
  207.  
  208. Q: I get messages of wrong Version or Language for a VBX or
  209. DLL file when starting PC-RSBUY.
  210.  
  211. A: Make a copy of your VBX or DLL and try other Versions.
  212.  
  213. Q: Does PC-RSBUY also work with BUY Programs for Windows CE
  214. Handheld Computers ?
  215.  
  216. A: If the BUY Program can be run in Windows 95 it will work.
  217. But the unlocked Program will only run on the Handheld Computer
  218. for which it was designed for.
  219.  
  220. Q: What means BUY Type 1 and Type 2 in the Status Line ?
  221.  
  222. A: Up to now two types of BUY-programs were analyzed. Type 1
  223. is an internal "SalesAgent" using 32-bit instructions. Such
  224. Programs will only run in Windows 95. Type 2 is an internal
  225. 16-bit "SalesAgent" but the Program also needs Windows 95
  226. for registration (in few cases Windows 3.x may work).
  227.  
  228. Q: My TMP or TEMP folder is more and more filled with a lot of
  229. stuff after registered some Programs.
  230.  
  231. A: Is not a subject of PC-RSBUY but a bad "side effect" of
  232. "SalesAgent". Reboot and delete what Windows does not refuse.
  233.  
  234. Q: I have a Program with similar Registration Dialog but it
  235. is not detected by PC-RSBUY.
  236.  
  237. A: Perhaps it's a "TRY and BUY" Program. If the trial period
  238. is over you only can buy. Therefore run PC-RSAG which is the
  239. right system to register "TRY and BUY" Programs protected with
  240. "SalesAgent".

  242. Q: What should I do if nothing works ?
  243.  
  244. A: Write down all info displayed, Program Name, WEB Page
  245. where to get from. The more details the better. Post the
  246. request on Usenet "crack" pages, KeyWord "PC-RSBUY".
