  7.                        DateCrack Plus 1.0

  10. Overview:
  11.  
  12.      Datecrack Plus is a Windows 95 application that defeats
  13. the expiration date on most trial versions of software.  
  14. Applicable programs may be launched from a program list 
  15. within the Datecrack Plus menu and/or from a shortcut on the
  16. desktop.  Some programs launch multiple modules and take 
  17. longer to load.  Previous versions of Datecrack were unnsuc-
  18. cessful in manipulating such programs.  Datecrack Plus 
  19. provides incremental delays to hold the desired date for the
  20. length of time required to successfully launch the applica-
  21. tion.  Each Datecracked program can be customized with it's
  22. own unique delay factor.  Datecrack Plus also includes the
  23. capability to test a target application to determine the 
  24. proper delay period.  Datecrack Plus supports program launch
  25. via shortcut through the use of command line editing from 
  26. within the shortcut properties window.  This program is near 
  27. idiot proof.  Please don't disappoint us.

  31. Installation:
  32.  
  33.      DatCrkPl.exe is a self executing archive.  Double
  34. click on DatCrkPl.exe to extract installation files to the
  35. suggested temporary directory or one of your own choosing.  
  36. Run setup from within the temporary directory.  Setup will
  37. recommend a directory for installation.  The recommended 
  38. installation directory may be changed by the user.  If the
  39. desired directory is not present, it will be created by the
  40. installation program.

  43. directory to the destination directory.  ****

  47. Operation:
  48.  
  49. 1. Adding a program to DatecrackPlus
  50.                         
  51.    a. Click entry.
  52.  
  53.    b. Select the drive where the target program will be found
  54.  
  55.    c. Select the directory where the target program will be
  56. found.
  57.     
  58.    d. Select the EXE file to be datecracked.  
  59.      
  60.    e. Enter date (date entered must precede expiration date)
  61.  
  62.    f. Enter delay factor (value must be within 0-10).
  63.       0=minimum delay
  64.  
  65.       1-9 (factors 5 seconds). 1=5 secs, 2=10 secs, 3=15
  66. secs, etc
  67.  
  68.       10=indefinite.  Current date restoral must be effected
  69. manually via the mouse.
  70.  
  71.     g. Select test.  Datecrack will change the system date 
  72. and launch the target application.  All datecrack options 
  73. will be disabled (greyed out) during the delay period (with
  74. the exception of delay factor 10).  
  75.  
  76.        If the program launched successfully, close the 
  77. program and select OK.  The target program has been 
  78. datecracked.  
  79.  
  80.        If the program did not launch successfully, close the
  81. program and increase the delay factor.  Repeat this step
  82. until the appropriate delay factor is determined.  Once the 
  83. target program launches successfully, click on OK. The target
  84. program has been datecracked.

  89.     a.  Launch Datecrack Plus

  91.     b.  Select Display
  92.  
  93.     c.  Highlight the target program
  94.  
  95.     d.  Click on Execute

  98. 3. Removing the Datecrack modification
  99.  
  100.    a. Select the target program in the display, by left 
  101. clicking it.
  102.  
  103.    b. Click on Delete.
  104.  
  105.       Note:  This action does not delete the target program,
  106. only the datecrack option.

  109. 4. Display  
  110.     
  111.     a. Shows those programs that are currently datecracked.
  112.     
  113.        
  114. 5. Setting up a Datecracked shortcut:
  115.  
  116.     a.  Open the Windows explorer to the DateCrack Plus 
  117. directory    
  118.  
  119.     b.  Copy the shortcut template to the Start Menu,
  120. Desktop, or folder of your choice.
  121.  
  122.     c.  Rename the copied shortcut template to reflect the
  123. target program
  124.  
  125.     d.  Right click on the renamed shortcut template
  126.  
  127.         e.  Select properties
  128.  
  129.     f.  Select shortcut tab
  130.  
  131.     g.  Edit "Target:" information to reflect the
  132. Datecrack Plus\Datecrack.exe path followed by the name of the
  133. target exe file.

  135.     Example: "C:\DateCrackPlus\Datecrack.exe" WebFerret.exe
  136.            
  137.     Notes:   1. The target exe file is case sensitive
  138.  
  139.              2. Do not remove the quotation marks 
  140.  
  141.         h. Edit "Start in:" information to reflect the
  142. installed DateCrack Plus directory.
  143.  
  144.        Example:   "C:\DateCrackPlus"
  145.  
  146.     i.  Click on the "Change Icon" button.  Select one
  147. of the available icons or browse for a suitable icon.
  148.  
  149.         j.  Click on OK to accept the highlighted icon.

  151.         k.  Click on OK to close the Properties window.
