  5. Some people in our hobby find that listening to 800 mhz cellular
  6. communications is interesting.  Those who do, might find that some real
  7. inside, juicy stuff could be found being broadcast from the private jets
  8. carrying entertainment industry executives, business leaders, and
  9. goverment officials across this great land of ours.
  10.  
  11. The frequency assignments  are as follows:

  27. The Ground stations broadcast an annoying tone when not in use.  The
  28. Planes broadcast in simplex only, while the Ground station broadcast
  29. duplex similar to cordless phone base/handset operation.  The easiest way
  30. to monitor this service is to load first a Plane frequency then a Ground
  31. frequency for each channel.  After loading all the channels go back and
  32. lock out all of the Ground frequencies.  Scan the Plane frequencies for
  33. simplex transmissions and when you get a hit, press your manual key to
  34. jump to the next frequency... the locked out ground frequency
  35. broadcasting in duplex!
  36.  
  37. Please keep in mind that the services provided on these frequencies are
  38. Common Carrier and perhaps subject to the same laws covering the
  39. monitoring of Cellular Phones.  In which case it is a violation of
  40. federal law to listen to these frequencies.

  51. The FCC has issued rules on allocation of the 849-851/894-
  52. 895 MHz bands for air-ground radiotelephone service.
  53.  
  54. The new action, effective September 9, 1991:
  55.  
  56.      1) changes channel spacing from GTE Airfone Inc.'s de
  57.           facto standards;
  58.  
  59.      2) orders GTE to make its service available to other
  60.           air-ground licensees at non-discriminatory rates;
  61.  
  62.      3) divides each channel block into 6 control channels
  63.           (P-1 through P-6) and 29 communications channels
  64.           (C-1 through C-29);
  65.  
  66.      4) provides for a communications channel bandwidth of 6
  67.           kHz;
  68.  
  69.      5) gives GTE 22 months to modify its current control
  70.           channel scheme; during this period, GTE can use
  71.           the lower 20 kHz of each channel block, which
  72.           includes channels C-1, C-2, and C-3, for control.
  73.           GTE then has another 38 months during which it can
  74.           only use a 3.2 kHz control channel in channel C-2
  75.           of each channel block. After these transition
  76.           periods end (September of 1996), GTE must switch
  77.           to control channels marked P-1 through P-6 in the
  78.           tables below;
  79.  
  80.      6) empowers the FCC to assign exclusively one control
  81.           channel to each air-ground licensee;
  82.  
  83.      7) limits the ERP of airborne stations to 30 watts;
  84.           maximum, and that of ground stations to 100 watts
  85.           maximum;
  86.  
  87.      8) limits the ERP of ground stations to 1 watt when
  88.           communicating with aircraft on the ground.
