- General Information
- ___________________
-
- o You must install OS/2 Procedures Language 2/REXX
- to use The Developer Connection for OS/2*.
-
- o Run the Setup program, DEVCON.CMD (OS/2) or
- DEVCON.BAT (DOS), to install each new volume of The
- Developer Connection for OS/2.
-
- o Before running the Setup program, ensure that the
- Catalog and Browser are closed. It is not necessary
- to delete The Developer Connection folder.
-
- o Your LIBPATH statement must contain the current
- directory (".").
-
- o If you ran Setup from Volume 2 and installed the Browser,
- before you install Volume 3 you must delete the following
- three files from the directory where Setup installed the
- Browser files:
-
- - VIEW.EXE
- - VIEWDOC.EXE
- - FHELPMGR.DLL
-
- o Before you install Volume 3 of The Developer Connection
- for OS/2, do the following:
-
- 1. Remove the following products from your system if you
- installed them from Volume 2. The licenses for these
- products have expired.
-
- OS/2 2.1
- CA Realizer
- Distributed Application/2
- HyperWrite
- SAA CUA Controls Library/2
- Video IN (Ultimotion)
-
- 2. Reinstall updated products. Refer to the Content
- List or the online "What's New in Volume 3?" for a
- list of updated products.
-
- o Many of the products included in The Developer
- Connection for OS/2 include their own readme, .DOC, or
- .TXT files. Refer to those files for product-specific
- information.
-
-
- The Developer Connection for OS/2 Catalog
- _________________________________________
-
- o You cannot install multiple products concurrently. You
- must complete the installation of the current product
- before you select another product to install.
-
- o You can run only one copy of The Developer Connection
- for OS/2 Catalog at a time.
-
- o If you try to install or run some products with no
- media in a removable-media drive with a drive letter
- greater than B, you will receive an error message.
- To continue, select "Return error to program" from
- the error panel.
-
- o You cannot install Multimedia Presentation Manager/2*
- (MMPM/2*) 1.1 Base directly from 5.25-inch diskettes.
- If you use 5.25-inch diskettes, do the following:
-
- 1. Create a subdirectory on your hard disk.
-
- 2. Copy all three 5.25-inch diskettes into that
- directory.
-
- 3. From an OS/2 command prompt, change to the
- subdirectory you created and type MINSTALL.
- (MINSTALL is the MMPM/2 installation program.)
-
- o You must have MMPM/2 1.1 Base on your system before
- you can install some Multimedia applications, such
- as CD Explorer and System Sounds by BOCASoft.
-
- o If you do not have a printer defined on your desktop,
- an error message will appear when Printer Setup is
- selected.
-
- o If you install the Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 2.1
- or The Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 2.1 (Japanese) from a
- remote CD-ROM drive, some of the files might not install.
- We recommend that you use a local CD-ROM drive or create
- installation diskettes to install the Toolkit.
-
- o OS/2 SMP will install only on a multiprocessor system.
- See the OS/2 SMP README in the OS2SESMP directory on
- Disc 2 for important installation information.
-
- o The documents in the SOMobject Base Toolkit Documentation
- product are in PostScript** format.
-
- o If the globe in PMGB32 (PMGLOBE) does not draw, deselect
- (uncheck) the "Draw at low priority" item on the Options
- pull-down menu.
-
- o A list of APARs that are fixed by OS/2 ServicePak XR06200
- is included in the product information for the ServicePak.
-
- o The name of the product Library READ/2 should be IBM
- Library Reader/2. Also, it is listed incorrectly as a
- Demo product. IBM Library Reader/2 is a released,
- generally available product.
-
- o To access online books using IBM Library Reader/2, Disc 2
- must be in the same CD-ROM drive as when you installed
- Library Reader/2.
-
- o To install the OS/2 Version 1.3 Toolkit, you must insert
- Disk 1 into your diskette drive (for example, Drive A) and
- type INSTAID.
-
- o DCE Client for OS/2 and Developer's Tools (under LAN
- Systems Tools) will not install from a local CD-ROM drive.
- Install DCE Client only from a network CD-ROM drive.
-
- o RIFFSAMP is not a new product as listed in "What's New in
- Volume 3?"; it is an updated product.
-
- o BIDISRC is a pre-release product.
-
-

- searches on special characters such as # $ % / [ ]
- " " are not supported. The asterisk (*) may be used
- as a wildcard.
-
- o The Browser has been updated to support Boolean searches
- in addition to single keyword searches. Refer to the
- User's Guide booklet in the CD-ROM jewel case or the
- online User's Guide for more information.
-

- function will not be highlighted when the sections
- containing the keywords are displayed.
-
- o ASCII files will print only to LPT1.
-
- o OpenDoc** White Paper and OpenDoc Technical Summary
- are available on the CD-ROM in both ASCII and PostScript
- formats. If you have a PostScript printer, you can print

- on each CD-ROM.

-
- o The DOS Diskette Creation Utility has not yet been updated
- to support multiple CD-ROM discs. To make diskettes, you

- when you select a product from the Catalog. Refer to
- WELCOME.TXT in the root directory or the Content List to
- identify which disc contains the product you want to
- select.
