- ============================================================================
-
- This is the DEMO version of the above product and is subject to the
- following restrictions :
-
- Content : No Toolkit and no Programming Samples
- Includes US-English dictionary only
-
- Function : The maximum number of documents that can be indexed has been
- limited to 35. Documents may be deleted and indexed again, but
- the total number in the Primary and Secondary parts of the
- index will not be allowed to exceed 35. Indexing requests that
- cannot be carried out will be deleted from the queue without
- any warning. If the index contains a total of 35 documents,
- some of them must first be deleted before attempting to index
- further documents or make replacements.

-
- INSTALLATION
- ============
- To install the SearchManager/2 Demo call SM2INST from disk 1.
-
- If you install only the Online Documentation
- --------------------------------------------
- If you install only the online documentation, the file is copied
- to your disk but no object is created for it.
- To look at this manual, in an OS/2 session use OS/2's VIEW program
- to view the file EHSA7MST.INF which is located in the product
- programs directory that you specified during installation.
-
- Installation verification
- -------------------------
- Some OS/2 2.1 installations may experience problems in displaying the
- metafiles in the sample documents. This is an error in the EPW.EXE
- that has been reported to OS/2 2.1.
- A temporary solution is to remove the RUN statement for the EPW.EXE
- program from the CONFIG.SYS file.
-
- Deleting and updating components of SearchManager/2
- ---------------------------------------------------
- Delete, install and update actions should be done using the
- 'Installation Utility' object in the product folder. These actions
- may also be carried out using the SM2INST command either from the
- Installation diskette or from a directory to which the diskette files
- have been copied. Always access this directory directly before
- entering SM2INST.
-
- Use the Update option only to update an installed product to a
- later service level, if available.
- If you need to refresh an existing product at the same level,
- do not use the Update option; instead, delete the product,
- restart the system, and then install the product again.
-
- If however a delete of the product is interrupted and cannot be continued,
- it may be necessary to use the Update option first to bring the
- system back into a state that allows a successful delete operation.
-
- Installation without using diskettes
- ------------------------------------
- Do not use the /P:'product name' command line parameter for the
- SM2INST EXE.
-
- Space requirements during installation
- --------------------------------------
- You will need approx. 500K free space on the boot disk for temporary
- files during installation.
-
-
- Using OS/2 2.0
- ==============
- Starting SearchManager under OS/2 2.0 CSD Level XR06055 (ServicePak)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you are using SearchManager/2 under OS/2 2.0 CSD Level XR06055
- you may get an 'Internal Error' message when opening the SearchManager/2
- folder. To prevent this error occurring again, move the SearchManager/2
- folder into another folder and restart the system.
-
- Objects initially out of sight
- ------------------------------
- On some OS/2 2.0 installations, the objects in the SearchManager/2 folder
- and the Search Service folder may initially be scrolled out of sight.
- Use the 'Arrange' option or the scroll bar to make them visible.
-
-
- ADMINISTRATION
- ==============
- Cleanup
- -------
- The cleanup function of SearchManager/2 administration is available
- when you use the OS/2 File System library services DLLs
- EHSLSCFS.DLL and EHSLSSFS.DLL shipped with the SearchManager/2 product.
-
- If you use different library services DLLs, then :
- - the Cleanup push button on the Explicit page of the Administration
- notebook is unavailable.
- - the Cleanup function on the Status page of the Administration notebook
- has the status "prevented."
-
- Note: The names EHSLSCFS.DLL and EHSLSSFS.DLL are reserved names and
- must not be used for your own library services unless you want to
- supply a different set of library services for the OS/2 file system.
- If you use these reserved names for a library other than the
- OS/2 File System, then you are able to select the cleanup function,
- but it clears your index, erasing its contents.
-
-
- What to do if the search locked condition occurs often
- ------------------------------------------------------
- A sequence of complex queries may cause the search service to
- become locked because too many temporary workfiles are present.
- If this occurs often you should stop the search service
- and start it again to erase all temporary files.
-
