The Product Information window displays copyright information about the
Multimedia Setup program.

Select OK to continue with the multimedia setup.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Help for Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Use the following keys to control the operation of the Multimedia Setup
program:

Tab
     Move among choices on a page of a notebook and switch between the major
     and minor notebook tabs.

Arrow keys
     Move among choices

Enter
     Select the notebook page associated with the cursored tab

Spacebar
     When the focus is on a major or minor notebook tab, pressing the Spacebar
     opens the notebook to the associated page.

Alt
     Switch to or from the menu of an application window.

PgUp
     Displays the previous page each time the key is pressed when the focus is
     on a notebook tab.  This key is typematic, which means the notebook pages
     keep turning as long as the key is pressed and held down.

PgDn
     Displays the next page each time the key is pressed when the focus is on a
     notebook tab.  This key is typematic, which means the notebook pages keep
     turning as long as the key is pressed and held down.

Home
     Displays the first page of the notebook when the focus is on a tab.

End
     Displays the last page of the notebook when the focus is on a tab.

Alt+PgUp
     Same function as the PgUp key except the focus can be anywhere in the
     window.

Alt+PgDn
     Same function as the PgDn key except the focus can be anywhere in the
     window.

Alt+Home
     Displays the first page of the notebook while the focus is on a notebook
     page.

Alt+End
     Displays the last page of the notebook while the focus is on a notebook
     page.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Help for Multimedia Setup ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Use the Multimedia Setup window to enable you to specify settings for the
MMPM/2 system and installed subsystems. The MMPM/2 system and the devices are
represented as tabs at the right side of the notebook in the Multimedia Setup
window.

To specify settings, click on the tab you want. Tabs at the bottom portion of
the notebook are associated with particular devices.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Help for Help Menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Use the choices on the Help menu to display:

o An index of references to the help topics for the active program
o General information about the contents of the active program
o General information about the Help facility
o A list and description of keys you can use
o Product information about the active program


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Help for Index ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Select Help index to display an alphabetic list of references to help topics in
the active program.

Note:   To see all text of the index entries, maximize the Index window.

Select an index entry to display help information related to that topic.

Select General help to display information about the contents of the active
window.

Select the System tab to display and change the system settings for captioning
and the multimedia work path.

Type in the Multimedia work path field a path that can be used by various
application programs to create temporary work files.  Select a path that
includes a hard disk that can be read from, written to, and contains sufficient
free storage space to contain your data.

Note:   Recorded information lasting 1 minute requires up to 2.5MB of free
        storage space.

The hard disk can be in your workstation or on a local area network (LAN).


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Help for Captioning ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Use the Captioning check box to indicate whether captioning should be enabled.
A check mark indicates that captioning will be available for those application
programs that support it.  The absence of a check mark indicates that
captioning will not be available.

To place or remove a check mark, click on the Captioning check box.

Captioning is the ability for an application to provide a visual representation
of audio sounds.  Most commonly, this is in the form of text that accompanies
the sound of spoken words.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Help for System Undo All ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Select Undo all to restore the setting for Captioning to what it was when the
Multimedia Setup window was opened.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Help for Name Page ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Use the Name Page window to view and specify name settings for the selected
device.

You can also designate the device as the default for its type, view its
description, change its name, and restore the original settings if you like.

Use this field to view the description of the selected device.

Use the Name field to view or change the name of the selected device.  A name
can be up to 19 characters long.

To change the device name, type the new name over the existing one.

The Default device check box is used to specify whether the selected multimedia
device is to be designated as the default device.

To specify the device as the default, click on the check box to place a check
mark in it.

Note:   Even if a check mark is not present in the check box, this device
        remains the default until another device is selected.

This field displays available data types that can be selected and added to the
data types for the current multimedia device.

Data types are used for linking (associating) the device with a specified type
of file.  This enables files of the specified data type to be available for use
when the device is opened.

To add a data type:

 1. Select the data type from the Available types field.
 2. Select the Add type push button.

Select the Mapper tab to see and specify setting information for the current
MIDI device.  This information is used to convert (map) the MIDI music data to
the correct format as it is played.

The Mapper page displays the MIDI device type and information about the active
channels for the device.

Note:   You might have to scroll horizontally to find the tab for the Mapper
        page.

The MIDI device type list field displays the type of the currently selected
MIDI device.

The device-type information is used by the MIDI mapper system to convert from
standard MIDI format to the format needed by the installed hardware.

To change the MIDI device type:

 1. Click on the down arrow at the right of the MIDI device type field to
    display available types.
 2. Select the type you want from the list.

The Active channels group box contains check boxes that indicate whether music
should be played on a specific channel.

A check mark indicates that the channel is active and can be used to play
music.

To place or remove a check mark, click on the check box you want.

Note:   Standard MIDI uses channels 10 and 16 for percussion.  The other
        channels are allocated to other types of instruments.

Select Undo all to restore the settings on the Mapper page to what they were
when the Multimedia Setup window was opened.

Select the Communication tab to see and specify setting information for
communication with an external videodisc device.

Use the Port field to specify the port to use for communication with the

Use the Baud rate field to specify the data-transfer rate for the selected
multimedia videodisc device.

Use the Word length field to specify how many bits will be used for each
command byte sent to the selected multimedia videodisc device.

Use the Parity field to specify the type of parity to use to check the validity
of commands sent to an external multimedia device.

To select the parity type, click on the appropriate radio button.

The MMPM/2 system supports various types of multimedia devices.  The Multimedia
Setup program enables you to specify settings for these devices.

The devices are represented by tabs in the Multimedia Setup notebook.  Each
section contains information about a particular device.

Select the notebook tab you want for information about the device it
represents.

The Help facility cannot provide the help information.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Error Opening the Window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The program cannot open the window.  The most likely cause is that the
STPMMRI.DLL file cannot be found or is not current.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Not Enough Memory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The system cannot provide enough memory to perform the operation.

End any active program that is not needed and try again.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for File-Name Extension Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

A file-name extension can be associated with only one device.  Either use
another extension or delete it from the device it is currently associated with,
and then associate it with the new device.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Too Many File-Name Extensions ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Too many extensions are associated to a device.  Delete all unused extensions.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Device Type in Use ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The type is in use by another device.  Select a different type.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Too Many Types in Use ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Too many types are in use.  Delete all unused types.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Device Name Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

A device must have a unique name.  The name you entered is already being used.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Operation Failed ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The requested operation failed for an unknown reason.  Contact your system
support personnel.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for File-Extension Name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

A file-name extension can be any length that is supported by the system you are
using.  For example, the FAT file system allows up to 3 characters.  In
addition to the standard characters of the alphabet, OS/2 allows you to use the
following characters:

~ ! @ $ % ^ & ( ) - _ { } '

Examples of valid file-name extensions are:

WAV    (~A    CD
%!$    _Cd    p


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Work Path Not Found ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The specified path to the temporary work file could not be found.  Either the
path does not exist or it was typed incorrectly in the Multimedia work path
field in the Multimedia Setup window.

Ensure that the path exists and that it is correctly typed in the Multimedia
work path field.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Configuration File Locked ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The multimedia configuration file is now locked.  To make changes to the
multimedia configuration, you must restart the system and run Multimedia Setup
again.
