- Help is always available. You can obtain help at any time by pressing the F1
- key.
-
- When you request help, a help window is displayed. The kind of help displayed
- is determined by what you selected before you requested help or the task you
- were doing when you requested help. This is referred to as contextual help.
-
- Within some help windows, certain words or phrases are highlighted. To obtain
- additional information about a word or phrase, double-click on the word or
- phrase. (Or press the Tab key until the cursor is on the word or phrase and
- then press Enter.)
-
- A Help choice appears on the menu bar of every window. The associated pull-down
- menu provides these choices:
-
- o Help index
- o General help
- o Keys help
-
- A Help push button appears in windows. The kind of help invoked by a push
- button is contextual help. Press F2 when contextual help is visible to get
- extended help for the whole window.

- USING GENERAL HELP
-
- General help provides general information about the task to be achieved by a
- specific window.
-
- In windows that have a menu bar, select General help from the Help pull-down
- menu.
-
- In windows that have push buttons, press F1 or select the Help push button.
- Then press F2 or select General help from the Help pull-down menu.
-
- USING KEYS HELP
-
- Keys help displays a list of key assignments for the application you are using.
-
- Select Keys help from the Help pull-down menu. You also can press F9 from
- within a Help window.

- USING THE HELP INDEX

- Help index provides a list of help topics.

- Select Help index from the Helppull-down menu. You also can press F11 from
- within a Help window.

- To search the list of topics, do the following:

- 1. Select Search from the Services pull-down menu.

- 2. Type the word or phrase to be found into the Search for field.

- These choices are used primarily to move and size windows. Depending on the
- window you are in, you also can close windows and switch to another window.

- Restore Restores a minimized or maximized window to its previous size.

- Move Enables you to move a window around on the screen.

- Size Enables you to size the window.

- Minimize Makes a window as small as possible.

- Maximize Makes a window as large as possible.

- Hide Removes a window from the screen and places the object title in the
- Window List.

- To size a window using the mouse: The border of the window changes color.

- 2. Press and hold the mouse button. The border changes color.

- To size a window using the keyboard:

- 1. Select Size from the system menu and press Enter. The border of the window
- changes color.

- 2. Press an arrow key to select the side of the window you want to move.

- 4. When the border is in the new position, press Enter.

- Select this menu choice to make a window as small as it can be, changing its
- shape to an icon. The icon moves to the bottom of the screen unless you have
- previously moved it. If you have moved the icon, it goes to its last position
- on the screen.

- You also can minimize a window by clicking on the small box in the top-right
- corner of the window.

- Select this menu choice to display the OS/2* Window List.

- From the Window List, you can:

- o Switch to an open object.
- o Close an open object.

- Some objects, such as the Print object, cannot be closed from the Window List.
- They can be closed only as part of the OS/2* operating system shutdown.

- You also can display the Window List by pressing Ctrl+Esc or by positioning the
- mouse pointer on the desktop (outside the border of all windows) and then
- clicking mouse button 1 and mouse button 2 simultaneously.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.3. Help for the System Menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- These choices are used primarily to move or close the windows that are not
- sizeable and have push buttons.
-
- Move Enables you to move the window around on the screen.
-
- Close Exits the window and returns to its owner window. This menu choice is
- identical with pressing the Cancel push button.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Using the Help Facility ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Each help window includes the following menu-bar choices:
-
- Services Prints one or more help windows, searches through the help windows,
- or copies sections of the help windows to a file that you can edit.
-
- Options Expands or contracts the list of available help windows, or displays
- the list of help windows you have viewed during the session.
-
- Help Displays help on using the Help Facility.
-
- If you want to see information on any of these choices, select the choice and
- press F1. (If you are using a keyboard, press F10 to move to the menu bar.
- Then, if necessary, press the Right Arrow key to highlight the menu-bar choice
- for which you want help. Finally, press F1.)
-
- If you select Contents from the Options pull-down menu, the Contents window
- appears. This window lists all available help topics. A plus sign (+) next to a
- topic indicates that additional entries are available for that topic. Click on
- the plus sign to see the complete list. If you are using a keyboard, press the
- Up or Down Arrow key to highlight the topic, and then press the + key.

- If you want to view a topic, double-click on the topic (or press the Up or Down
- Arrow key to highlight the topic and then press the Enter key).
-
- After you select a topic, the information for that topic appears in a window.
- The topic title appears at the top of the window to remind you of the topic you
- are viewing. Highlighted words or phrases indicate that additional information
- is available for a topic. If you are using a mouse, double-click on the
- highlighted word or phrase. If you are using a keyboard, press the Tab key to
- move to the word or phrase and then press the Enter key. Additional information
- can appear in a window or in a related help topic window.

- To close a help window, press the Esc key. The previous help topic appears if
- one is available. If not, the previous window appears.
-
- To exit the Help Facility without viewing previous help topics, select Close
- from the title-bar icon or press Alt+F4.

- Contextual help displays help that refers to the selected object or to the task
- being performed. Contextual help displays help in the following situations:

- o If the selection cursor is on a menu-bar choice or on a menu choice, the help
- will relate to that choice.
-
- To display help for a menu-bar choice or a menu choice, highlight the choice
- and then press F1.
-
- o If the selection cursor is on a field in a window, the help will relate to
- that field.
-
- To display help for a field, select the field (or press the Tab key to move
- the cursor to the field) and then press F1. If the cursor is already on a
- field when the window is displayed, press F1 to obtain help on that field.
-
- o If a single symbol is selected, the help will relate to that symbol.
-
- To display help for a symbol, click on the symbol with mouse button 1 and
- then press F1.
-
- The help provided refers to the symbol type rather than to the specific
- symbol.

- Use this window to install, try, or get information about products. Products
- are listed under categories. To select a product in a category:

- 1. Expand the category by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to a category
- icon or by double-clicking on the category object.
- 2. Select a product by clicking on the product object.

- You can select more than one product by holding down mouse button 1 and drawing
- a rectangle around the product objects. To select products that are not
- adjoining, hold down the Ctrl key, click on the product objects, and then
- release the Ctrl key.

- After you select a product, you can do the following:
-
- o View product information
- o Try the product (if applicable)
- o Install the product
- o Remove the product object (if previously installed by The Developer
- Connection)

- To select an action, click on Symbol from the menu bar or display the pop-up
- menu of the product object by clicking mouse button 2 on the object.

- File Allows you to select a printer, print the Main View window, or exit

- Symbol Collapses and expands the Main View categories and allows you to

- You can use the following window manipulation operations:

- o Scroll a window by means of the scroll bars or the Overview window.

- o Zoom the window contents by means of the Zoom in, Zoom out, Zoom to fit, or
- Zoom reset menu choices from the View menu-bar choice; or by means of the
- Overview window.

- Use the scroll bar at the right of the window to scroll the window vertically.
- Use the scroll bar at the bottom of the window to scroll the window

- You can scroll the window until you reach a border of the diagram.

- You also can scroll the main window by moving the viewing frame in the Overview

- Initially, the zoom factor is set to 1, which displays the contents in its
- actual size.

- The zoom factor can be increased with the Zoom in choice, decreased with the
- Zoom out choice, or reset to 1 with the Zoom reset choice from the View
- pull-down menu.

- The zoom factor also can be set with the Zoom to fit menu choice, so that all
- selected symbols fit into the window.

- You also can implicitly and continuously zoom the main window by directly
- setting the viewing frame in the Overview window. The zoom factor is then set
- so that the object specified by the viewing frame in the Overview window
- exactly fits into the current drawing area of the main window.

- Several actions require one or more graphical objects to be selected before
- they can be performed. As a visual cue, selected graphical objects are
- highlighted.

- The graphical objects that can be selected are the category and the product
- objects.

- To select a graphical object, use mouse button 1.

- The following are the supported selection types:

- o Single-choice selection
- o Random-choice selection
- o Drag selection.

- Use Select all to select all objects in the window. Use Deselect to deselect

- To select all the objects that are within or overlap a rectangular section of

- objects. The rectangle is outlined with dashed lines.
