- The Developer Connection Browser is a search tool that allows you to view the
- technical library and other documents or search through documents to locate
- information.
-
- Browser documents are displayed as Workplace Shell objects in category folders.
- You can view a document by opening a category folder and double-clicking on the
- document object. You can search through documents by selecting an entire folder
- or one or more document objects and then selecting Search from the system menu
- or from the pop-up menu of objects. If you select a folder, the Browser will
- search through the folder and any of its subfolders.

- When you select Search, you are placed in The Developer Connection
- Browser-Query... window where you can type a search expression. The Browser can
- search on a single keyword or a boolean expression. To search for more than one
- keyword or to restrict the keyword search, you can use the boolean operators
- and, or, xor, and andnot. You also can use parentheses to control the order of
- precedence.

- After your search is completed, a selection list of the sections containing the
- keywords is displayed in a list box. You can select the sections you want to
- view.

- The following describes the window keys from within the Query window:

- Key Function

- Enter Completes the action of the selected field or push button.

- Esc Cancels the window.
-
- Tab Cycles forwards around the fields and push buttons.
-
- Shift+Tab Cycles backwards around the fields.
-
- Up Arrow Moves you to the previous field.
-
- Down Arrow Moves you to the next field.
-
- Note: If you are in the list box and you press an arrow key, you move up and
- down within the list box; you must press Tab or Shift+Tab to return to
- the other fields.

- You search for keywords by typing a search expression. By using the operators
- and, or, xor, and andnot between keywords, you can search for more than one
- keyword or restrict the keyword search. You also can control the order of
- precedence by using parentheses. If you make a syntax error, the error is
- displayed in red.

- Each keyword and operator has a pop-up menu with choices, such as changing the
- color or the operator of a selected item. You can display the pop-up menu by
- selecting the keyword or operator and then clicking mouse button 2.

- To search for keywords:

- Note: The folders or document objects that you want to search must already be
- selected.

- 1. Type a search expression in the Search Expression field. (It is not case
- sensitive.)

- 2. Select the Search push button.
- A selection list of sections containing the keywords is displayed.
-
- 3. Double-click on a section from the selection list.
- The section you selected is displayed. The keywords you searched for are in
- this section.

- After you have completed your search, you can return to the Query window by
- double-clicking on the title-bar icon of the document window.

- Note: This field is not case sensitive.

- To search for information, you enter a keyword or boolean expression in this
- field. If you want to search for more than one keyword or restrict the keyword
- search, you can use the boolean operators and, or, xor, and andnot. You also
- can use parentheses to control the order of precedence. If you make a syntax
- error, the error will be displayed in red.

- This field displays a selection list of the sections of documents that contain
- the results of your search. To view the documents that contain the results of
- your search, double-click on the section you want to view. The section you
- selected is displayed. The keyword or keywords you searched for are in this
- section.

- When you have completed your search and close the document window, you will be
- returned to the Query window where you can select another section or type new
- keywords to search.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Help for the Search Push Button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- Selecting the Search push button causes the Browser to search the documents you
- selected in the List Box field for the keywords specified in the Search
- Expression field. If you typed an invalid keyword in the Search Expression
- field, the message Invalid Character in Keyword appears. If no matches are
- found, the message Keyword Not Found appears. If the search is successful, a
- list of sections containing the keywords appear in the List Box.

- If you are in the middle of a search, selecting Cancel causes the search to
- terminate and returns you to the Browser main window. If you are not in the
- middle of a search, selecting Cancel returns you to the Browser main window.

- Selecting Help causes the Query Window Help panel to appear. This panel
- provides specific help for the Query window.
