Directory Manager is a simple OS/2 directory and file manager that provides the
following features:

 1. Traversal of either the OS/2 HPFS or FAT file systems that include:

   o file sorting
   o file/directory copy, move, delete, and rename operations
   o mask specification to view matching files
   o display of disk space, directory space, and marked file size information
   o marking and un-marking of files for further processing
   o view of text files
   o label file system disk and diskettes
   o create directory(s)
   o multiple window support

 2. OS/2 command entry

   o including the ability to execute commands using marked files from the file
     display.

 3. Custom macro execution against marked files

   o Customize the FILE pull-down to automate selected macro command execution
     along with accelerator key support.

 4. File search capability

 5. Support for the Drag-Drop protocol for marked files

   o drag and drop to the Workplace Shell ( and WPS objects )

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Traversing the file system. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Directory Manager initializes by displaying files and sub-directories on either
the current drive and directory from which Directory Manager was started from
or a preselected default start-up drive and directory. The display is split
into:

o a main window, and
o a directory window with a drive menu, and
o 1 or more file window(s)

The current directory and file mask are displayed in the title bar of the file
window.

o Using the Mouse to Traverse the File System

  To display files/directories on another drive, click on DRIVE pull-down on
  the directory window, a list of drives will be displayed. Once you find the
  drive you wish to view, single click on that entry, the drive that was
  selected will now be displayed. If you are using multiple-window support then
  a new file window will be created and the directory window will now contain
  the entries of the new drive.

  To change to another directory, double-click on a directory entry in the
  directory window on the left of the display. The '..' in the directory window
  indicates the parent directory, and may be doubled-clicked to move back to
  the parent. Please note that if using HPFS, a '..' will appear even when you
  are at the root directory. You may use the scroll bar to scroll thru the list
  of directories or click on the directory window and type the first letter of
  the directory name.

  To change the mask of files displayed, select the VIEW pull-down from the
  main window and select MASK. Enter the mask value that you wish to be
  displayed. An example would be:

             DINO.*
  This would display all file(s) in the directory selected that have a file
  name of DINO and all file extensions possible.

  To open a file with the default WPS association, double-click on the file
  name. To change the default assocation, please see the OS/2 online help.

  At the bottom of the main window in the information status area will be the
  current allocation status for the selected drive. This will include the
  current drive letter, the label of the disk ( blank in none ), the total
  number of bytes on the disk, number of bytes used and number of bytes free
  used and free.
o Using the Keyboard to Traverse the File System

  To display files/directories on another drive; place the focus on the
  directory window, this can be done by selecting the WINDOW pull-down from the
  main window menu, then selecting the entry marked Directory Window. Once the
  focus is on the directory window you can select a drive by pressing the ALT
  key, this will place the focus on the DRIVE pull-down, then you can press
  enter for a list of drives. Use the up/down-arrow key to place the focus on
  drive you wish to view, then press the ENTER key.

  In order to change to another directory, use use the up/down arrows key to
  select the directory you wish to view, then press the ENTER key. The '..' in
  the directory window indicates the parent directory, and may be selected to
  move back to the parent. Please note - when using HPFS, a '..' will appear
  even if you are at the root directory.

  You may also use the directory fastpath to select another directory. To do
  this place the focus on the directory window ( as described above ) and press
  the SPACE BAR key this will display the directory fastpath. Once the dialog
  is displayed type the name of the directory, you may also use a fully
  qualified name, including drive and press enter.

  To change the mask of files displayed, select the VIEW pull-down and select
  MASK. The MASK dialog will be displayed, select the criteria you wish to
  search for and press enter. For example:

             DINO.*
  This would display all files in the selected directory that have a file name
  of DINO and all file extensions.

  To execute a file ( open a file ), move the focus to the file window, then
  use the up/down keyboard arrow keys to select the file to be executed and
  press enter.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Multiple Window Support. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Directory Manager supports multiple file windows by default, every time a new
directory view is selected, a new file window is created. The new file window
is created over top of the current file window. To view the list of current
file windows, select the WINDOW pull-down and the list will appear, in last
opened order. All file windows may be CLOSED except the first one opened, to
CLOSE a file window, place the focus on that file window and press the F3 key.

You may also reuse the same file window every time a new directory view is
selected, to use this method, select the WINDOW pull-down and select REUSE ON
OPEN. You may jump back and forth between multiple and single window support at
anytime.

The TAB key may also be used to cycle through all the open windows, each press
of the TAB key process the next open window.

The RING icon may also be used to cycle through all the open windows, each
click of the RING icon process the next open window.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Directory Fastpath. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Directory Manager supports a directory fastpath, this will allow you to
directly type the name of the directory you wish to view. To use this option
select FASTPATH from the main menu or place the focus on the directory window
and press the SPACE BAR and a dialog will appear. Type the name of the
directory in the space provided ( the name can either be a sub-directory of the
current directory or a fully qualified directory name ) or double-click on a
saved entry. This allows you to avoid the sometimes detailed directory
traversal.

The current directory path is displayed as a default selection, if any key is
pressed the field is erased, except for the END key as this keeps the field and
allows you to append to the field.

Most frequently used directory path names can be saved, avoiding having to
traverse the file system looking for them.

Directory entries may also be saved for future reference, and deleted if no
longer needed.

Entries are placed in alphabetical order only.

o To ADD a directory, enter the directory path in the directory entry field and
  select the ADD button at the bottom of the dialog. There is a limit of 10
  directory path names that can be saved when the limit is reached the ADD
  button can not be selected.
o To DELETE a directory entry select the entry you wish to delete. The DELETE
  button at the bottom of the dialog will now be enabled, select the button and
  the entry will be deleted.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Selecting previous directories. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Directory Manager saves a list of open directories when using the
multiple-window facility of Directory Manager. To view the open windows select
the WINDOW pull-down and at the bottom is a list of open windows. Select the
window you wish to view.

The TAB key may also be used to cycle through all the open windows, each press
of the TAB key process the next open window.

The RING icon may also be used to cycle through all the open windows, each
click of the RING icon process the next open window.

When a window is closed the the entry is removed from the WINDOWS pull-down.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Selecting Files. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

One or more files may be selected (marked) so that operations may be performed
upon them (e.g. copy, delete, move ... ), MACRO operations may also be
performed. A single directory may also be selected to perform operations
against.

o Using the Mouse to Select files/directories

  To select a file with the mouse, click on the file name within the current or
  desired file window. If you wish to select more than 1 file in a row just
  hold down the left mouse button while dragging over the files you wish to
  select. If you want to select more than 1 file and these files are right
  below one another as the above method describes, then hold down the Ctrl key
  when selecting more than 1 file.

  To de-select a hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the already selected
  file entry.

  To select a directory with the mouse, click on the directory name within the
  directory window, only one directory may be selected at a time.

  To de-select a directory click on the already selected directory entry.

o Using the Keyboard to select files/directories

  To select a file/directory, use the TAB key to move the focus to either a
  directory or file window via one of the methods described in Traversing the
  file system Then use the up/down arrows on the keyboard to scroll thru the
  list. To select a entry, press enter and to de-select and press enter on an
  already selected entry while holding down the Shift key.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Selecting files via the MARK function ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

All entries can be selected via the Mark ALL Entries selection under the
OPTIONS pull-down.

Selective entries can be selected via the Mark Entries selection under the
OPTIONS pull-down. When selected a dialog will be presented that will allow the
specification of a mask, if entries match the specified mask they will be
included in the selection.

If the mask starts with a ! all matching entries will be excluded and all files
that do not match will be selected.

If you are using the HPFS then use the CASE SENSITIVE button to process your
request, as the default is to compare using upper case only.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Dragging and Dropping Selected Directory or File(s) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Directory Manager supports supports the drag'n drop protocols implemented the
Workplace Shell. In order to use the drag'n drop protocol, follow the
instructions below:

 1. Select the entry(s) to be transferred to a target application.

 2. Press and hold the secondary mouse button.

 3. Move the mouse pointer, noting that the pointer image changes as it passes
    over windows or icons that may or may not support the drag'n drop protocol.

 4. While over an application that does support drop ( the pointer changes to a
    file or folder image ), release the mouse button to transfer the files to
    that application.

The above method can be used to drag a directory or file(s) to the Workplace
Shell or Workplace Shell objects, including:

 1. Desktop,
 2. Shredder and,
 3. Printer

The above method may also be used to drag a directory or file(s) to selective
icons on the Toolbar

If using the multiple-window facility, files can be dragged from one file
window to the other. Directories may be dragged to a file window but nothing
can be dropped on a directory window. The entries being dragged can either have
an operation of COPY or MOVE the default is to MOVE.To perform a COPY operation
hold don the CTRL key while dragging, the pointer will have a shadow type
effect when a COPY operation is in effect. When dragging to a Printer object
the operation is always a COPY operation and when dragging to a Shredder object
the operation is always MOVE.

When dragging to or from a diskette drive the operation will always be COPY.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Operations on Files/Directories ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

o File(s) or Directory(s) can be copied to another drive or directory by first
  selecting the file(s) or directory from which to copy. A copy can be
  performed by:

    1. Selecting the COPY icon on the toolbar or,
    2. pressing the F8 keys or,
    3. Drag'n Drop method to a WPS object or Toolbar copy icon.

  The destination dialog will be displayed so that you may select a destination
  on which the file(s) or directory may be copied.

  Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel
  the entire process.

o File(s) or a directory can be moved to another drive or directory by first
  selecting the file(s) or directory to move and then by:

    1. Selecting the MOVE icon on the toolbar or,
    2. pressing the F7 keys or,
    3. Drag'n Drop method to a WPS object or Toolbar move icon.

  The destination dialog will be displayed so that you may select a destination
  for the file(s) or directory to be moved to.

  Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel
  the entire process.

  When moving a directory, the original directory or sub-directories will NOT
  be deleted.

o File(s) or Directory(s) can be renamed in the current parent directory by
  first selecting the file(s) or directory to rename and then:

    1. Selecting the RENAME icon on the toolbar or,
    2. pressing the F9 or,
    3. Drag'n Drop method to the Toolbar rename icon. key.

  A dialog box will be displayed to in order to allow you to change the name of
  the file/directory.

  Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel
  the current process.

o Files/Directories can be deleted (along with sub-directories) directory by
  first selecting the file(s) or directory to delete and then:

    1. Selecting the DELETE icon on the toolbar or,
    2. Drag'n Drop method to the WPS Shredder object or Toolbar Trashcan icon
       or,
    3. pressing the Delete key. A dialog box will be displayed (if you have
  selected the "Confirm on Delete" option from the SETUP pull-down menu) to
  allow you to review the file(s) or directory being deleted. You may remove an
  item from the delete list by double-clicking on the the item in the given
  window.

  When a directory is selected, all files and sub-directories in the directory
  will be deleted.

  Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel
  the entire process.

o Files can be printed to PRN by first selecting the file(s) to print and then:

    1. Selecting the PRINTER icon on the toolbar or,
    2. Drag'n Drop method to the WPS Printer object or Toolbar printer icon or,
    3. pressing the F10 key.

o To EXECUTE a program you may double-click on the selected file with in the
  file window.
o To EXECUTE a command against selected file(s) or directory, first selecting
  the file(s) or directory  and then selecting the Delete icon (in the toolbar)
  or pressing the F12 key. A dialog box will displayed to allow you to enter
  your command. The last 10 commands are retained and may be scrolled and
  selected from the window. To select a previous command from the command
  window, double-click on the desired entry or single-click and that will bring
  the entry into the command entry field and allow you to change it ( if
  desired ).

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Cancelling a Active Request ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may cancel a ACTIVE request ( MOVE, COPY, REANME, DELETE, and SEARCH ) by
using the ESC key at any time in the process while the window has the focus.

Note:  The actions taken prior to the cancel are not un-done.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Destination Dialog for Copy/Move ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The destination dialog helps you choose a destination for a move or copy
operation on selected files or directory.

To choose a destination for the operation, select disk drive letter from the
drive window for the drive  you wish to use as the target and then select the
directory you desire on the drive. This can be done by double-clicking on the
directory name. The directories are displayed one-level at a time. You may
traverse the directory tree by using the same method outlined in Traversing the
file system

As drives/directories are selected, the destination will be displayed in the
destination entry box at the bottom of the dialog box, along with the amount of
free space left on the target drive. Optionally, you may type the path name in
the destination entry field instead of selecting the drives and directories.

The destination entry field may also be used by typing a fully qualified
directory name, then pressing the ENTER key.

The default is to show the current directory as the target, this may be changed
via one of the above methods.

Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel the
current process.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. MACRO Creation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Macros are commands that follow the rules outlined in the Command Substitution
Format section. To create a macro select the SETUP pull-down and then select
MACROS. The macro dialog will be displayed, with a list of macros that were
previously defined (or dialog will be empty if no macros had been previously
defined).

o To ADD a macro select the ADD button at the bottom of the dialog. See MACRO
  Properties for more details.
o To COPY an existing macro select the macro you wish to copy and then select
  the ADD button at the bottom of the dialog. See MACRO Properties for more
  details.


o To CHANGE a macro select macro you wish to change. The CHANGE button at the
  bottom of the dialog will now be enabled, select the button and follow the
  rules in MACRO Properties.
o To DELETE a macro select the macro you wish to delete. The DELETE button at
  the bottom of the dialog will now be enabled, select the button and the macro
  will be deleted.
o To ORDER a macro to the TOP double-click on macro you wish to order to the
  top.

For best the best performance the command should also include the filetype (
i.e. .EXE ) and either be in the PATH or be a FULLY qualified file name.

A sample of some MACROs are as follows:

Zip marked file(s) This macro will prompt you for a ZIP name to either create
          or modify, then add the marked file(s) to that ZIP file.

                    pkzip.exe &ZipName / -a

UnZip marked file(s) This macro will UnZip the marked file(s) and place the
          files in the current directory.

                    pkunzip.exe /

Zip a entire directory This macro will prompt you for a ZIP name to either
          create or modify, then ZIP all the files in the current directory.

                    pkzip.exe &ZipName /p\*.*


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. MACRO Properties ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The macro properties entry dialog will be displayed, with the following
controls:

Macro Description This is a 30 character filed that is used to describe the
          function of the macro, this will appear on the FILE pull-down and the
          POPUP menu.

Macro     This is a 50 character filed that is used to define the macro, see
          Command Substitution Format for the format of this entry.

Full Screen Runs macro in full screen mode

Minimized Runs macro in minimized mode

Maximized Runs macro in a maximized window

Window    Runs macro in a window (default size)

Auto Close Will close the application upon termination

Refresh Window Upon termination will refresh the file window from where the
          file(s) were selected.

Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel the
request.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Executing Commands and Macros ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may type in a OS/2 command to execute at anytime, by selecting the File
pull-down and selecting Command or ctrl-o You may also select any user created
macro from the File pull-down ( or by pressing the ctrl-1 thru ctrl-9 keys ).

o Commands

  When the Command option has been selected the command dialog will be
  displayed, and your command will execute when OK is selected ( or pressing
  the ENTER key) as a separate process.

  Any OS/2 command or program name can be specified for execution. Optionally,
  the command you specify can use the selected files in the command line. For
  more information on the format of the command substitutions see Command
  Substitution Format
o Macros

  Macros may also be selected for execution, optionally, the command you
  specify can use the selected files in the command line. For more information
  on the format of the command substitutions see Command Substitution Format
  and also see MACRO Creation for more information on creating macros.

The following diagram illustrates the format for a command you enter:

The <command> symbol represents the name of the command you specify. command
can only be a OS/2 command or program. The following list describes the other
command parameters.

parms     Any needed command parameters.

/         Substitutes the fully-qualified name for selected file(s). The
          specified command will be repeated for each file that is selected on
          the file window.

//        Substitutes the '/' character in the command line.

/n        Substitutes the file name for each selected file. The specified
          command will be repeated for each file that is selected on the file
          window.

/e        Substitutes the file extension (without the preceding '.') for each
          selected file. The specified command will be repeated for each file
          that is selected on the file window.

/d        Substitutes the drive letter (with the trailing ':') for for each
          selected file. The specified command will be repeated for each file
          that is selected on the file window.

/p        Substitutes the fully-qualified path name (without the trailing '\')
          of the current directory in the command line. The specified command
          will be repeated for each file that is selected on the file window.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. Variable Substitution ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Within a macro or command you may use a '&' followed by a name
(i.e.'&ProgName') to indicate that you wish to be prompted for a variable
substitution when the command or macro is selected. The substitution will occur
only once, that is if multiple files were selected the substitution will apply
to all files selected.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Changing the File Mask ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The file mask determines which files are displayed in the file window. All
directories are displayed, regardless of the file mask specification. The
normal wildcard characters of * and ? may be used in the file mask.

The default mask is '*'. To change this mask either click on the mask icon or
select the VIEW pull-down and select MASK. A dialog will be displayed.

You may also change the type of files displayed either selecting or
de-selecting the 'Show System' and 'Hidden Files'.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Changing the Default Configuration Drive and Paths ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You can change the following:

o Drive used to store temporary files

  Directory Manager uses temporary files, the default where these files will be
  created in on the C drive, this may be changed to any valid drive.

o Directory path displayed at initial startup

  Directory Manager will initially display the working directory that was
  provided by the WPS or if that is not provided then the directory from which
  Directory Manager was started. This entry may be changed to any valid path in
  the system and upon startup this will be the directory displayed.

o Directory path where the initialization file will be kept Directory Manager
  stores the initialization file named DIRMAN20.INI in the directory from which
  Directory Manager was started. This path may be changed to any valid path in
  the system, for users on a LAN, you will want to have your own initialization
  file so this should be changed.

Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel the
process.

To save these option you must select the SETUP pull-down and select Save
Options as this will update your DIRMAN20.INI file.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. Changing the Font ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may change the font to one of the values that is displayed in the font
dialog. To do this select the OPTIONS pull-down and select the FONTS entry.
Then a standard font dialog will be displayed, select the desired font and size
and press OK.

The fonts are ONLY changed in the directory and file window(s).


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20. Changing Colors ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may change the FOREGROUND and BACKGROUND colors for the following areas:

o file window
o directory window
o information and status window
To change the color foreground or background colors in one of the above areas
select the OPTIONS pull-down and selecting the COLORS entry, then select either
FOREGROUND or BACKGROUND then either DIRECTORY, FILE, or INFO AREA. A list of
valid colors will then be displayed, select the color of choice.

The colors are changed in ALL the directory and file window(s).


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 21. Changing the File View ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may select to alter how the files are listed in the file window(s). You may
elect to show the files by

o DATE,
o EXTENSION, or
o SIZE

The default is by NAME. To change the view, select the VIEW pull-down and
select either:

o Sort By Date
o Sort By Extension
o Sort By Size
 The current window will be refreshed with the sort sequence. As you use or
activate the other windows they will be refreshed with the proper sort
sequence. You also may select a sort order of:

o ASCENDING
o DESCENDING


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 22. Changing File Details View ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may select what information will appear in your file display window(s), by
electing to show:

o DATE,

    1. mm/dd/yy (optional format)

    2. dd/mm/yy (optional format)

    3. yy/mm/dd (optional format)

o TIME,
o ATTRIBUTES,
o SIZE or,
o ICON

The default is to show all the above except the ICON view.

If you select the Select All button the following views will be selected:

o DATE,

    1. mm/dd/yy (optional format)

    2. dd/mm/yy (optional format)

    3. yy/mm/dd (optional format)

o TIME,
o ATTRIBUTES and,
o SIZE

Note:  Please note, that this change will also effect the SEARCH window.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 23. Creating a new directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may create a new directory by selecting the Make Directory option under the
FILE pull-down. You will be presented with a dialog box, the dialog box has a
entry field in which you can enter the name of the directory you wish to
create. The name can be a fully qualified directory name or just the name, in
which case will assume the qualified path of the current directory.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 24. Changing the label of a drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

You may change the label of a drive, by first selecting a drive letter from the
selection list. The current label of the selected drive will be shown in the
entry field. This entry may be changed, the maximum length is 11 characters in
length. Select the OK button to process the label change or CANCEL to cancel
the request.

You can change the attributes of a file by first selecting a file to change.
Once you have selected a file then select the Change Attribute option under the
FILE pull-down. You will be presented with a dialog box, the dialog box will
show you the current attributes for the selected file. To change the attributes
just select or de-select the attributes you want the file to have, then press
the OK button or CANCEL to cancel the request.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 26. Creating a Clone ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

A clone is a exact copy of a file with a different name. You can create a copy
of a file and give it a different name via the CLONE option. Select the file(s)
you wish to clone, then select the CLONE option from the FILE pull-down, you
will be prompted for the new name(s) of the file(s) being cloned. You can only
clone a file in the current directory, this means that the cloned copy will
reside in the same directory as the original file, you can then move the file
if you desire.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 27. Printing Contents of a Window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

To print the contents of a file or directory window, move the focus to the
window you wish to have printed, then press the Shift-PrintScreen keys and the
contents will be printed to the device named PRN You may also select the FILE
pull-down and select Print Window


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 28. Saving Setup Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

After you have made the desired changes, you may select the SETUP pull-down and
select Save Setup. A file named DIRMAN20.INI will be created in the directory
where DIRMANPM was started from or from the path that was found in the DEFAULTS
pull-down found under SETUP This file will be used during the initialization of
DIRMANPM.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 29. Delete Dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

A dialog box will be displayed (if you have selected the Confirm on Delete
option from the SETUP pull-down menu) to allow you to review the file(s) or
directory being deleted. You may remove an item from the delete list by
double-clicking on the the item in the given window.

When a directory is selected, all files and sub-directories in the directory
will be deleted.

When the Force Delete option is checked, this will allow the file to be
deleted, bypassing the UNDELETE processing if you have it enabled, so this
file(s) will not be recoverable via UNDELETE.

Choosing OK will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will cancel the
entire process.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 30. Overwrite Dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

A dialog box will be displayed (if you have selected the Confirm on Replace
option from the SETUP pull-down menu) to allow you to review each file that
will be overwritten. You may choose to OVERWRITE existing file or CANCEL the
operation for that file. If you select to overwrite the file you may also
choose to only over older files, by selecting Overwrite older files or
overwrite all existing files by selecting Overwrite all files

Choosing OVERWRITE will allow the process to continue, choosing CANCEL will
cancel the current request.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 31. Search for Files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

To search for a given file(s), display the search dialog in one of the
following ways:

o press the SEARCH icon on the toolbar, or
o press and release the right mouse button to display the popup-menu and select
  SEARCH
The search dialog can search for files matching a given mask on a single drive
or across multiple drives. When the search dialog is displayed the focus is on
the mask entry field, this may be changed to any mask. You may select one or
more drives to be searched. The default drive selected is a result of the
current drive on the main window. Once you have selected the proper file mask
and drive(s) you may press the ENTER key or the OK The files that match the
file mask are displayed in a new file window.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 32. Using Quick View ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

Quick View is a built-in simple and basic file viewer that allows you to view
plain asci text file(s). To use Quick View select one or more files, then move
the mouse pointer to the Quick View icon ( the Window Pane ) and press mouse
button 1. If you selected more than 1 file, Quick View will place these files
in a file ring for future selection. Quick View will always display the first
file selected ( if you selected more that 1 ). To view the the other files
selected, click on the VIEW pull-down and click one the file you wish to view
now.

You can also use the OPTIONS pull-down to change the FONT and COLOR. To change
the FONT, select the OPTIONS pull-down and select FONTS, then the standard font
dialog will be displayed, select the desired font and size that fits your
needs.

You can change the BACKGROUND and FOREGROUND (text) color. To change the
BACKGROUND color select the OPTIONSVIEW pull-down and then select COLOR, the
BACKGROUND. The color choices are now displayed, select the one that fits your
needs. You can save your choices by selecting the FILE pull-down and selecting
SAVE OPTIONS. This will save ALL of your current settings for Directory
Manager.

If you wish to look use Quick View to look at 2 or more files at the same time
then repeat the above steps for each individual file that you wish to view and
Directory Manager will start a Quick View session for each file.

To EXIT Quick View, select the FILE pull-down and select EXIT or press F3 at
any time.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 33. Using the ICONS or TOOLBAR ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

The TOOLBAR is located below the system menu bar of the main window, each ICON
relates to a function. Below is a list of the icons and what function they
perform: The above icon will perform the MOVE function. The above icon will
perform the COPY function. The above icon will perform the DELETE function. The
above icon will perform the RENAME function. The above icon will perform the
PRINT function. The above icon will perform the SEARCH function. The above icon
will display the MASK dialog. The above icon will invoke the Quick-View
function. The above icon will TILE all the open windows. The above icon will
CASCADE all the open windows. The above icon will step you through all open
windows. The above icon will refresh the current window.


ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 34. Using the POPUP Menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

If you elect to size the window so that some of the buttons are no longer
visible, you may use the POPUP menu to select the desired action. To display
the POPUP menu place the pointer over any window area and press and release the
right mouse button. A menu will appear where the pointer was, note that some of
the selection will be greyed-out ( non-selectable ) this is because no files
were selected prior to requesting the POPUP for certain entries.

This dialog allows you to create a WPS program object, very much like the
Settings dialog in on the WPS. A WPS object will be created for each file

The target drive of a MOVE or a COPY is either full or write protected. The
file in question will not be copied or moved.

The file in question could not be executed, this usually means that OS/2 did
not find the correct header information to allow execution.

The file/directory in question can not be renamed. This usually means that a
file/directory with the selected name already exists.

The file or directory in question could not be deleted, this usually means that
the file does not exist or the file is in use by another process.

The executable command or macro cannot be found. Verify that the command or
