  6. Installing Gpf

  8. This INSTALL program performs these functions: 
  9.  
  10. o creates a directory structure on your hard drive 
  11. o transfers all files to those directories 
  12. o modifies the CONFIG.SYS file (you are given the choice of direct or indirect 
  13.   modification) 
  14. o installs Gpf into the Group Main TaskList 
  15. o prompts you to remove your diskette and conduct a Shutdown/Re-boot 
  16.  
  17. To start the procedure, select the Installation- Setup menu option. Further 
  18. HELP is available for each screen (use F1.)

  23. This window is used to start the installation, monitor progress, and then exit. 
  24.  
  25. Installation Contains two options:

  27.    Setup     Goes to an options screen, primarily for source and target drive 
  28.              definitions.

  30.    Exit      Leave the application, now or when done. 
  31.  
  32. Help      Contains entry points to application and system Help panels.

  65. This window is used to define: 
  66.  
  67.  1. the diskette (source) drive 
  68.  2. the destination (target) drive 
  69.  3. the destination directory. Gpf will create this directory, if required, and 
  70.     several sub-directories below it. 
  71.  4. a choice of direct CONFIG.SYS modification, to the existing file, or 
  72.     changes are made to a re-named version. The latter procedure is 
  73.     recommended, so that you can verify proper edits to your CONFIG.SYS 
  74.  
  75. The CONFIG.SYS which will be installed or appended to are: 
  76.  
  77.  1. the LIBPATH variable 
  78.  2. the PATH variable 
  79.  3. the HELP variable 
  80.  4. the BOOKSHELF variable (non-DEMO versions) 
  81.  5. the LIB variable (nonDEMO versions) 
  82.  6. the INCLUDE variable (non-DEMO versions) 
  83.  7. a SET GPF= variable, set to the drive/directory you specify 
  84.  
  85. Pressing Ok means all choices are acceptable (as is or edited by you) and 
  86. Installation will begin. 
  87.  
  88. Pressing Cancel returns you to the main screen without initiating an Install.

  91. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.1. ComboBox Output Drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  92.  
  93. Scroll and click to select the destination drive for the Gpf directory tree. 
  94. Ensure the drive has at least 1MB free space.

  99. Designate the 'root' directory for Gpf files and sub-directories. This tree 
  100. will be created if necessary.

  102. A leading '\' character is optional, and assumed to be present if you choose 
  103. not to write one.

  106. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.3. ConfigSys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  107.  
  108. Selecting this option will permit Gpf to modify your existing CONFIG.SYS. 
  109.  
  110. This is usually successful if your file is written in a manner consistent with 
  111. the original OS/2 installation; this may fail if "strangenesses" exist. 
  112.  
  113. Note:  For example, Gpf assumes there are no embedded carriage returns in an 
  114.        environment variable definition, i.e the entire defintion occupies one 
  115.        and only one line. 
  116.  
  117. The safe method is the other, that of placing all changes into a copy of your 
  118. CONFIG.SYS This file is called CONFIG.NEW, which you are expected to visually 
  119. verify with a text editor, then copy it to CONFIG.SYS if all is well.

  121. Note:  A copy operation over-writes the destination file if it exists.

  126. All Gpf modifications are made to a copy of the current CONFIG.SYS. 
  127.  
  128. This is the recommended option. Inspect this file with an editor after you exit 
  129. the Install program. Once satisfied additions are correct, copy this file to 
  130. CONFIG.SYS and conduct a shutdown/reboot to make these changes active.

  135. Starts the Installation process. You will be returned to the previous screen, 
  136. from which you can monitor directory and file transfer progress.

  140.  
  141.  The Cancel key will return you to the entry screen without initiating an 
  142. installation. You will then have the option of a restart or an exit.
