  7. Changes Since 4.5.0 Build 177
  8. -----------------------------
  9. Fonts:
  10.  Expanded scope of "Override Dialog Box Font" which can be used
  11.  to force display of a particular font in nearly all dialogs and
  12.  windows. In particular, we added it to QuickPaste and Picker.
  13.  This feature is particularly helpful when working with Asian versions
  14.  of Windows, and we intend to make this setting take effect automatically
  15.  in a near future release.
  16.  
  17. WorkGroup Directory:
  18.  If you experimented with the workgroup directory feature, and decided
  19.  not to use it, there was no way to "back out", other than editing the
  20.  \windows\clipmt40.ini file directly.  Now there is a "clear" button
  21.  on the dialog.
  22.  
  23.  Also added "(Shared)" to the title of any workgroup collection, to 
  24.  help differentiate between local and shared collections.  This happens
  25.  when the collection is read in, so the collection itself isn't 
  26.  actually altered in any way.
  27.  
  28. Help:
  29.  There is now a tutorial for QuickPaste in the online help, and also
  30.  at our web site.
  31.  
  32. QuickPaste:
  33.  Added support for DOS sessions, which of course, don't support
  34.  Ctrl+V.  There is no need to add to the "Apps That Don't Accept
  35.  Ctrl+V" setting, we have hard-coded this solution.
  36.  
  37.  Increased the delay before the titlebar scrolling help appears.
  38.  
  39. Registration:
  40.  Made the registration process more robust by stripping out any 
  41.  leading/trailing blanks before processing registration key.
  42.  
  43. Installation:  
  44.  Added RE-INSTALLATION FAQ to this file.

  46. Changes Since Build 176
  47. -----------------------
  48. The Config dialog would prompt for a reboot no matter what setting
  49. you changed - even if you didn't change anything.  Caused by 
  50. errant flag - very minor change, so we left the version at 4.5.0.
  51. Now, it will only prompt for changes to the system tray, auto-hide,
  52. and directories.

  55. New Features In 4.5:
  56. -------------------------
  57. QuickPaste - lets you quickly paste items directly into a target
  58. application.  Ctrl+Shift+Q brings up the QuickPaste menu.  Pick 
  59. and item, and it's pasted right into where you are working.
  60.  
  61. Printing - we've installed an industrial-strength print engine
  62. which allows intelligent word-wrap, bitmap scaling, margins,
  63. and multiple clips per page, if there's room.  Even print preview!
  64.  
  65. Workgroup Directory - if you share clips on a LAN with other users,
  66. this can help you establish a shared, read-only collection for
  67. everyone to use.  It supplements the normal, "personal" data directory.
  68.  
  69. Glue Options - You can now configure Glue to control how items are 
  70. glued together. You can insert any sequence of characters in the 
  71. "seams" between items, such as linefeeds, tabs, commas or nothing.  
  72. And there is a new option to remove unwanted linefeeds that occur 
  73. in the data that you're trying to glue.
  74.  
  75. "IE Style" toolbar buttons.  Not only do they look good, but they
  76. support shortcut keys (alt+P for print, etc.) when ClipMate has
  77. focus.  
  78.  
  79. Fixes Since v4.2:
  80. -------------------------
  81. 1) A new version of the systray component should completely eliminate
  82.    the double-icon problem.     Note: We had to revert to some "old tricks"
  83.    right before release, so you'll continue to see the 2nd icon
  84.    appear in the taskbar from time to time - we're working on it.
  85.  
  86. 2) Several problems with PowerPaste have been corrected.  Such as
  87.    the inability to capture new data during PowerPaste, and
  88.    re-selection of the current PowerPaste location.
  89.  
  90. 3) A problem with Picker has been corrected.  Previously, if you 
  91.    tried to move or delete multiple items, it could act on the wrong
  92.    items.
  93.  
  94. 4) A problem with Picker that caused "out of bounds" error if you
  95.    clicked on an empty grid space.  Fixed.
  96.  
  97. 5) An obscure problem with Magnify that would cause exception if
  98.    you were in a read-only collection and performed a CUT, 
  99.    (selected text and Ctrl+X) and then cut again on the blank window.
  100.    Fixed.

  102. 6) Problem where closing Magnify window without pressing the OK button
  103.    would cause any editing to be lost.  Fixed.

  106. Known Problems:
  107. ------------------------------
  108. WinWord97 - ClipMate is very slow at accepting items from Word97.
  109. It seems to be related to a lot of activity in Word, stealing
  110. processor time from ClipMate during the critical period of time
  111. directly following the copy.  (ClipMate has a lot of work to do,
  112. in order to figure out where the data is coming from, and what
  113. elements it wants to capture.)  We're going to look at 
  114. short-circuiting some of the processing to make this faster, but
  115. it'll be after 4.5 launches.
  116.  
  117. Printing - Some users with networked HP Laserjet 5si printers
  118. are unable to print bitmaps - they appear scrambled.  If you 
  119. have this problem, please notify us with the type of printer,
  120. OS version, and whether the printer is on a network.
  121.  
  122. Run Minimized - Some users report that when they configure
  123. the shortcut icon to run minimized, it does, but when they
  124. restore from the icon, it doesn't come up all the way - they
  125. get a titlebar, which they can restore to full size.  But
  126. it seems to work correctly for the majority of users.
  127.  
  128. Picker Lockup - Some users are reporting a lockup when 
  129. accessing the picker window.  We're still trying to reproduce
  130. this problem in house.  If you have any details or clues,
  131. let us know.

  133. RE-INSTALLATION FAQ
  134. -------------------
  135. If you are installing this version over the top 
  136. of a previous build of ClipMate 4 (including beta)
  137. then here are some common questions:
  138.  
  139. Q: Should I install v4.5 over the top of my
  140.    existing v4.2 or v4.0 files?
  141. A: Yes.  We designed the installation to work 
  142.    that way.  The installer will remove any obsolete files,
  143.    and old registry entries, including any entries
  144.    in the "add/remove programs" section.
  145.  
  146. Q: Will my existing ClipMate 4 registration number
  147.    continue to work?
  148. A: YES - the registration is kept in CLIPMT40.INI,
  149.    which is preserved safely in your Windows directory
  150.    (provided that you HAVE previously registered
  151.    version 4)
  152.  
  153. Q: Will my data be overwritten or deleted?
  154. A: No - the install only replaces files with updated
  155.    ones - no deleting is performed.
  156.  
  157. Q: Should I uninstall the old one first?
  158. A: No.  And the installation program will clean out old entries in your
  159.    "install/remove programs" option in Control Panel.
  160.  
  161. Q: What about version 3.x registration numbers, will
  162.    they work?
  163. A: No - you need to upgrade to 4.x. 
  164.  
  165. Q: I've uggraded, and now ClipMate can't find the data!
  166. A: It is likely that you installed into a different
  167.    location than before.  Find your old clipmate directory,
  168.    and locate the DATA directory.  Copy the contents of
  169.    this old data directory to the new data directory, and
  170.    re-start ClipMate.  Your data should be fine now.
  171.  
  172. Q: I have old files hanging around from a previous release.
  173.    Can I get rid of them?  
  174. A: If you have old files in a separate directory, and you're
  175.    not pointing the DataDirectory (see User Preferences) to
  176.    that old path, then you can delete the old directory.
  177.    Note: It is possible for the installer to "miss" a 
  178.    previous release, especially if you've moved things around
  179.    a bit.
  180.  
  181. Q: I upgraded, and now I have two ClipMate's running!  Help!
  182. A: The installer attempts to remove the old ClipMate shortcut
  183.    from the startup folder.  However, if the icon has been
  184.    renamed, created by any means other than the installer, or
  185.    otherwise tampered with, then the installer may not see it, and
  186.    won't remove it properly.  Check your startup folder.  The only
  187.    good ClipMate icon will be called: "ClipMate 4.5" so delete
  188.    any others that you see.
