- with the 32-bit graphics engine, WIN-OS/2 Version 3.1, Service Pak *,
- Communications Manager, OS/2 Redbooks and Technical Library, C++ **,
- Productivity Tools, etc. This Kit is targeted for experienced
- developers.
-
- * -- Service Pak OS/2 2.0 (level XR6055) contains fixes to the OS/2
- 2.0 level of code. It can only be used with OS/2 2.0. To
- determine the level of OS/2 code on your computer, type 'SYSLEVEL'
- at the OS2 command prompt. Look at the Current CSD level under
- the heading SYSLEVEL.OS2. If the current level ends with '2000',
- '2050', '6000'. or '6050'. you can apply the Service Pak.
-
- DO NOT USE Service Pak with the OS/2 2.X level of code on this CD
- ROM.
-
-
- ** - C++ DOES NOT include the USL Class libraries (such as iostream,
- complex and task). In the U.S., the USL Class libraries can be
- purchased separately for a nominal charge, by calling
- 1-800-3IBM-OS2 and requesting the USL Class libraries. For other
- geographies, members of the current DAP program should contact
- their IBM OS/2 representative, and members of the WorldWide DAP
- program should monitor CompuServe for information regarding
- acquisition of the USL Class libraries as soon as fulfillment in
- these geographies is available.

- Support:
-
- The products provided on this CD ROM are beta level and are provided
- 'AS IS'. There is no warranty or service implied with respect to the
- program(s) included. You may monitor CompuServe for any information
- related to this beta product. Your comments/problems may be submitted
- only via CompuServe and will be appreciated and forwarded to the
- appropriate personnel for consideration in the next release.
- Pls INCLUDE THE LEVEL of PDK with your comments (9/92-white label with no
- date, 10/92-dated silver label, 11/92-dated blue label).
-
- CompuServe users should enter 'GO OS2DF2', Section 12 Developer's CD
- ROM. (Due to restructuring of CompuServe, all references on this PDK
- to 'GO OS2DEV' should be updated to 'GO OS2DF2') If you are not a
- member of CompuServe, please call 1-800-524-3388 and ask for
- representative #239 for a free introductory membership.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Helpful Hints:
-
- 1.During the install, if you notice an error with UNPACK.EXE, you may
- not have enough disk space to install the application. Also, each
- installation package works differently. If any error occurs on
- install, please check free space FIRST to make sure you have sufficient
- hardfile space. Do not install any of the productivity tools into the
- root directory of any drive.
-
- 2.Please leave the PDK in the CD ROM drive while you are using
- products on the PDK, even though you may not be accessing the PDK.
-
- 3.If you install OS/2, CSET/2, and TOOLKT20 from the PDK, you will find
- two (2) different copies of LINK386.exe:
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------
- 92/08/08 19:26:29 147909 C:\OS2\LINK386.EXE -- (OS/2)
- 92/07/22 15:56:01 146269 C:\IBMC\BIN\LINK386.EXE -- (CSET/2)
- 92/08/08 19:26:29 147909 C:\TOOLKT20\OS2BIN\LINK386.EXE -- (TOOLKT20)
- -------------------------------------------------------------
-
- When using CSET/2, it is recommended that you use the Linker supplied
- with CSET/2. Because of the PATH statement set up in the CONFIG.SYS,
- the OS/2 LINK386 will be accessed first. Please rename the OS/2 linker
- so that you use the CSET/2 LINK386 with the compiler.
-
- NOTE: You must ensure that the IBMC\BIN directory occurs before
- the TOOLKT20\OS2BIN directory in the PATH statement. Also, the
- recommended order of installation should still be followed to ensure
- that the EPM /H context sensitive help, and WorkFrame/2, C Set/2
- support function correctly.
-
-
-
- <<< INSTALLING OS/2 Beta from your CD ROM drive >>>
-
- For DOS and OS/2 System Users:
-
- In order to install OS/2 from the CD ROM drive both your SCSI adapter
- and your CD ROM drive must be supported under OS/2. If these are not
- supported under OS/2 you can create the OS/2 diskettes through DOS
- support -- see text file called DOS-INFO.TXT.
-
- You will need 2 blank 1.44MB- 3.5" (or 1.2 MB- 5.25") diskettes to create
- 'OS/2 Installation Diskette' and 'Operating System/2 Diskette 1' (DISK 1).
- (Since this is beta code, is recommended that you place OS/2 2.X in a
- separate partition on your hardfile rather than installing over OS/2
- 2.0 GA level).
-
- 1) To create the install disks:
- -From DOS type 'INSTALL' from the CD ROM drive
- -From OS/2 type 'INSTALL' from the CD ROM drive
- then select: 'Begin Installation of OS/2....'
- then 'OS2INST Make OS/2 2.X Install Disks'
-
-
-
-
-
- 2) You will see a screen titled 'Make Diskettes Version 1.00'
- Use your arrow keys to highlight each of the fields
- 'SCSI Adapter Type', 'Diskette Drive Letter', 'Diskette Size'.
- Make sure your Current Selection field information is correct
- (if you DO NOT have an IBM, Adaptec or Future Domain SCSI adapter
- you will create a set of install diskettes and customize them for
- your adapter card- you can make ANY selection for SCSI adapter
- since you will be changing it)
-
-
- 3) After creating the 2 install disks you will be asked if you want
- to edit your CONFIG.SYS. You will not need to do this if you are
- using an IBM, Adaptec or Future Domain SCSI adapter, with an IBM,
- or Toshiba CD ROM Drive. You will need to edit your CONFIG.SYS
- only if you would like to use the generic SCSI CD ROM driver
- provided (which is not officially supported by IBM) or have a
- different SCSI adapter.
-
-
- To install the generic SCSI CD ROM driver
- . edit the CONFIG.SYS
- . comment out the DEVICE=CDROM.SYS line
- . uncomment the DEVICE=CDROM_G.SYS line.
-
- Note: CDROM_G.SYS is for data ONLY! it does not support audio.
- Should be used only if you do not have an OS/2 CD ROM device
- driver.
- Must be used with an OS/2 supported adapter card device driver.
-
- If your SCSI adapter is NOT IBM, Adaptec or Future Domain, and you
- have the driver for it:
- . edit the CONFIG.SYS
- . change the BASEDEV statement from
- BASEDEV=IBMSCSI.ADD /LED
- to
- BASEDEV=yourscsi.ADD
- where 'yourscsi' is the name of the SCSI driver for
- your adapter card.
-
- You will also need to copy the driver onto DISK 1 that you have
- just created. It may be full, so you might need to erase the
- existing SCSI driver.
-
- Note: These customization changes are used only during the
- installation of OS/2. The install process will create a new
- CONFIG.SYS on your hard drive. You will need to edit the final
- CONFIG.SYS to make these changes permanent (see step 8).
-
- 4) Once the diskettes are created and labelled, put the 'OS/2
- Installation Diskette' you have just created in drive A and
- restart your system. You will then be prompted for the DISK 1 you
- just created. After a few moments the 'Welcome to OS/2 Screen'
- will appear.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- 5) On the 'Welcome to OS/2 Screen' you will see a message that you
- need OS/2 diskettes 1 through 14 to complete installation. You
- may ignore this message and press enter to continue installing from
- the CD ROM. The screens that appear are the same as the OS/2 2.0
- install screens but you are installing from CD ROM rather than
- diskettes.
-
-
- If you are installing from 5.25" diskettes ONLY, on
- the Installation Drive Selection screen:
- you MUST choose 1) Accept the drive.
- DO NOT choose 2) Specify a different drive or partition
- (it won't work and you will get an error message)
-
-
- 6) When you are asked to make your selection, please select 'Select
- Features and Install' (not Install All of OS/2). Press OK on the
- next screen and you will be brought to an OS/2 Setup and
- Installation screen. Here you *MUST* select 'MORE' to the right of
- CD ROM Device support and check IBM CD ROM Device Drivers. CD-ROM
- IFS is already checked for you. (If you don't, your CD ROM drive
- will not be configured.) Then click on 'INSTALL'.
-
-
- 7) IGNORE the final OS/2 Setup and Installation screen, which says
- 'Remove the diskette from Drive A and Press Enter to restart your
- system'.
-
- INSTEAD, press CTL-ALT-DEL to restart your system'. (Make sure
- that the diskette has been removed from Drive A).
-
- People with IBM systems can ignore 8)
-
- 8) OS/2 is now installed. When you reboot to start up, you may
- receive an ERROR message. The following MAY happen:
-
- - you get the error message 'Cannot Find \OS2\SYSTEM\COUNTRY.SYS '
- - you cannot access your CD ROM
-
- Boot off a bootable diskette (with an editor) and edit your
- CONFIG.SYS. You will notice the BASEDEV statement for your SCSI
- adapter is missing. Add it and reboot your system (look at the
- CONFIG.SYS on DISK 1 for an example)
-
- 9) It is important that when OS/2 starts up for the first time YOU DO
- A 'SHUTDOWN'. To do this, as soon as the disk light turns off and
- the desktop appears set up, please do a 'SHUTDOWN'. Follow the
- message to restart your system. Note: When OS/2 starts up for the
- first time, it must build the desktop. You want to ensure that
- this desktop gets saved, so we recommend that you immediately do a
- SHUTDOWN.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- <<< WHAT ELSE CAN I INSTALL FROM THE CD ROM? >>>

-
- 5.<< Productivity Tools >>
- Here we have assembled over 25 tools that demonstrate the
- capabilities of OS/2. Some can be used for nice demos, like
- PMGLOBE, while others are very serious applications, like the
- latest version of the Enhanced Editor (EPM) or PMDraw. Adding
- ALL of the tools to your hardfile will occupy approximately 7.5MB
- of fixed disk storage (1.5MB of this is PMDraw clip art and
- samples).
-
- Most of these tools have at least a .DSC (description) file in
- the \INSTALL directory on the CD ROM. Some may have a READ.ME
- file that can be found in the program's source directory on the
- CD ROM. The tools can be found in the subdirectory \PRODTOOL.
-
- The Productivity Tools are:
- ALPHAL Code browser and analysis tool
- APPC APPC Utilities (PING, TELL, Remote Execution)
- ASDT32 IBM Application/System Debug Tool (ASDT32)
- BOOT20 Creates a single OS/2 boot diskette
- CDEXPL A compact disc digital audio explorer

-
- Because some of the tools are command line type programs, they
- will not have group entries after they are installed. The
- following programs will not have group entries:
-
- APPC - A collection of three tools (APING, ATELL & AREXEC).
- DBMRPW - A remote password administration utility.
- DIRSTA - LAN adapater DirStatus.
- HEXDMP - A binary data display and conversion utility.
-
-
- Generic SCSI CD ROM driver
-
- If you do not have an IBM, or Toshiba CD ROM Drive, we have
- included a generic SCSI CD ROM device driver This driver can be
- found in the \MISC directory on the CD, and also on the disk 1 that
- was created for installing OS/2 off the CD ROM. This driver
- supports ONLY data, it does NOT support audio.
-
- This driver is NOT an official offering from IBM. It is truly 'AS
- IS' and there is NO intent for this driver to be part of future
- releases of OS/2.
-
- To install:
-
- 1) Copy CD_ROM.SYS into the \OS2\SYSTEM directory on your boot
- drive. CD_ROM.SYS is in the \MISC directory on the PDK, and on
- the DISK 1 that you created to install OS/2.
-
- 2) Edit your CONFIG.SYS and change the line that reads:
-
- DEVICE=C:\OS2\SYSTEM\CDROM.SYS /Q /I /N:4
-
- to
-
- DEVICE=C:\OS2\SYSTEM\CDROM_G.SYS
-
- 3) REBOOT.
-
-
-
-
- Alternate PMGRE.DLL
-
- We have incorporated the PMGRE.DLL that we made available (in the
- \MISC subdirectory) on the 10/92 version of the PDK into the
- install of OS/2 2.X of this PDK. However, if you would like to use
- the 10/92 default PMGRE.DLL perform the following.
-
-
- To install:
-
- 1) create a directory on your boot drive called
- \OS2\DLL\OLD
-
- 2) copy the file PMGRE.DLL from the CD ROM directory \MISC
- into \OS2\DLL\OLD that you just created.
-
- 3) edit the CONFIG.SYS file, and add \OS2\DLL\OLD in the LIBPATH
- BEFORE \OS2\DLL. ie:
-
- LIBPATH=.;C:\OS2\DLL\OLD;C:\OS2\DLL;C:\OS2\MDOS;C:\;C:\OS2\APPS\DLL;
-
- 4) Reboot
-
-
- To uninstall:
-
- 1) Remove the \OS2\DLL\OLD from the LIBPATH.
-
- 2) Reboot
-
-
-
