SER7.EXE Help File
Everything Should be pretty much Self explanitory, but I'll try to list
anything that may be difficult to figure out.
The Only Hidden Option to SER7 is an EMERGENCY Quit Key. Should for Some
Reason you loose your Mouse and cannot get it Back, try hitting the "F10"
Key. Depending on the layering of my windows, you may need to hit the
"F10" more than once to get out. That should Drop you back to Text mode
to quit..... I have Done Alot of Testing to ensure this doesn't happen,
but if it does please report the conditions that it occurd to me.
The Phone Book Screen:
- Please Note that You cannot Add PhoneBook Data within SER7 (Maybe in SER8)
Please edit the SER7.PBK file with a text editor
- The window will display the names of the people in your Phone Book, When
Selecting a Name the Phone Number for That person will be displayed.
- The "Clear" Button under the Phone Number Box is used to Clear the

- The "Answer" button functions in TWO ways. With No name highlighted, the
Modem is Set to answer modem and ALL default game parameters will be
Used(from SER7.CFG) If you have highlighted a persons Name, the
Configuration changes for that person will be made and then the Modem will
wait for the Call.
- The "Cable" button is for a Null Modem or a Pre-existing Connection. All
Default parameters are used for this connection.
- The "Quit" Button will...........Quit the Program.
The Dialing/Answering Screen:
- Just sit and watch.....should you want to Abort, press the "Cancel" button.
- After pressing the "Cancel" button if the Modem was off the Hook, there
will be a short pause while the modem is reset....this pause is normal.
- After the connection has been made, you will see the main interface.
Chatting Windows:
- Chatting is always active, accept when there is an open dialogue box
that requires input from you. All incomming characters will be held
in the buffer until you finish.
Main Buttons: (Lower Right)
- These are all pretty self-explanitory
- The Radio Buttions just to the Right of the SER7 graphic are used to select which
Game you are going to play. Only Those Games Which are present on your
Computer Will Be Shown!!

- To Select Files, Press the Select Files Button.
- The Selection is a typical File/Directory window.
- Double Click on a Directory to move to that Directory.
- Single Click on Multiple FileNames to Select more than One File
Then Press the OK Button(Green Check Mark) to finish.
- The Red "X" is the Cancel Button.

Advanced Options:
- DO NOT use unless you know what your doing, as improper settings will
prevent The games from running.
- To make changes you have to check the enable box
- Player lets you change the default player number. This can help when
loading multiplayer games.
- ExtraTics will send an extra tic with every packet (Default is ON)
- TicDup will tell Doom to use Packet data more than once. This is helpfull
on very slow links, but will make your mouse more sensitive. The Default
is "1" or DO Not duplicate Packets.
- Devparm will put the game into Developers mode, which does a number
of things.
A few Game options REQUIRE -DEVPARM and will enable it automatically.
*NOTE I took the list of options requiring -devparm from the DOOM FAQ, if
you want to override the default setting, try it.
- The "Set Defaults" button will reset the advanced option to the default
settings.
Transfering Files With Dsz or Gsz:
- Get the Gsz or Dsz Distribution files. The SimTel archives on
ftp.cdrom.com, or it mirrors carry these files. The latest release is
July 05, 1995. Sending and receiving files is extremely easy. When
shelling out of SER7, your com port and port speed will be displayed on
the screen. If your running on COM1 at 19200 BAUD
to send a file or files with Dsz use the command
"DSZ SZ PORT 1 SPEED 19200 FILE1.ZIP FILE2.ZIP ..."
and to receive files with Dsz use the command
"DSZ RZ PORT 1 SPEED 19200"
That should be it......Like I said...pretty self explanitory.
