  1. Regarding the sample sets data files:
  2.  
  3. The directories 4samples, 16samples and 64samples hold sampling
  4. patterns of N samples per pixel (N = 4, 16, 64).  The data has been
  5. culled into the best 10, 100 and 1000 performers in each population
  6. (best10.data, best100.data, best1000.data), although the latest
  7. version of the population is also included in each group
  8. (populationN.data).

  10. In the data files, the first four lines indicate the generation number
  11. of this file (0 for the "best" files), the size of the population, the
  12. number of samples per pixel and the total fitness of this population
  13. (equal to the size of the population for the "best" files).  On each
  14. of the following lines, the first number indicates the fitness of this
  15. sampling pattern, followed by the samples as x-y pairs.
  16.  
  17. The populationN.data files are included in the event that users choose
  18. to breed these sample sets further.  Note that methods other than
  19. genetic algorithms might be of more use to these populations as
  20. further generations may introduce inbreeding and bais in the samples.
