  13. The FOUND Window
  14. ------------------
  15. If more than 100 files are matched, your search
  16. was probably too general, and the program
  17. refuses to display all of the entries; only the
  18. first hundred will be shown, enough for anyone!
  19.  
  20. If you double click on an entry in the FOUND
  21. window, the file will be loaded as if you had
  22. double clicked on it in a directory viewer; it
  23. will be loaded to any program which accepts
  24. that file type (see Accessing files ....).
  25.  
  26. If you drag the entry from the FOUND window
  27. to an application, it will try to load it there
  28. as if you had dragged it from a directory
  29. viewer. When you finish the drag, it is the
  30. position of the mouse pointer that matters, and
  31. not any part of the dragged rectangle.

  33. Accessing files within the directory structure
  34. ----------------------------------------------
  35. If you click ADJUST (the right mouse button) on
  36. an entry in the FOUND window, the directory
  37. holding that file will be opened. This is a
  38. quick way of seeing the directory naming which
  39. was matched. This is useful for identifying all
  40. the data files associated with e.g. a Datadisc
  41. Plus interfacing experiment will have an infor-
  42. mation file and a file for each data channel. 
  43. Technical Issues
  44. ----------------
  45. The program occupies 200k of memory, so it
  46. should be easy to keep it loaded while drawing
  47. pictures. It will not bother you otherwise. It
  48. does not consume much processor time when idle.
  49.  
  50. If the program is superceded, or the index is,
  51. system variables can be changed to allow
  52. transparent upgrading. This can allow users to
  53. click on the !SERCgraph icon on the CD, but for
  54. a new version to be loaded.
  55.  
  56. This improved version now uses more data stored
  57. on disc and less processor time. The program
  58. stores a list of all the words, a list of all
  59. of the occurences of each word, and a list of
  60. the picture files with keywords, file type,
  61. full pathname, and so on. A typical run time
  62. from hard disc is 0.2s and from floppy, 1.5s.
  63. It does involve two drive head moves for each
  64. file matched, and some other stuff, but
  65. performance should still be adequate.
