- called 'FrontEnd1'.
- The FOUND Window
- ------------------
- If more than 100 files are matched, your search
- was probably too general, and the program
- refuses to display all of the entries; only the
- first hundred will be shown, enough for anyone!
-
- If you double click on an entry in the FOUND
- window, the file will be loaded as if you had
- double clicked on it in a directory viewer; it
- will be loaded to any program which accepts
- that file type (see Accessing files ....).
-
- If you drag the entry from the FOUND window
- to an application, it will try to load it there
- as if you had dragged it from a directory
- viewer. When you finish the drag, it is the
- position of the mouse pointer that matters, and
- not any part of the dragged rectangle.
-
- Accessing files within the directory structure
- ----------------------------------------------
- If you click ADJUST (the right mouse button) on
- an entry in the FOUND window, the directory
- holding that file will be opened. This is a
- quick way of seeing the directory naming which
- was matched. This is useful for identifying all
- the data files associated with e.g. a Datadisc
- Plus interfacing experiment will have an infor-
- mation file and a file for each data channel.
- Technical Issues
- ----------------
- The program occupies 200k of memory, so it
- should be easy to keep it loaded while drawing
- pictures. It will not bother you otherwise. It
- does not consume much processor time when idle.
-
- If the program is superceded, or the index is,
- system variables can be changed to allow
- transparent upgrading. This can allow users to
- click on the !SERCgraph icon on the CD, but for
- a new version to be loaded.
-
- This improved version now uses more data stored
- on disc and less processor time. The program
- stores a list of all the words, a list of all
- of the occurences of each word, and a list of
- the picture files with keywords, file type,
- full pathname, and so on. A typical run time
- from hard disc is 0.2s and from floppy, 1.5s.
- It does involve two drive head moves for each
- file matched, and some other stuff, but
- performance should still be adequate.
