- In the ever-changing world of IBM-compatible
- computing, several predictions are guaranteed to be
- true every year. Here, in random order, are this
- writer's Safe Predictions for 1995:
-
- 1. Regardless of your budget, the computer you
- really, really, really want will cost $5,000.
-
- 2. No matter how close you come to that perfect
- computer in your final purchase, it will be on the
- way to obsolescence within months.
-
- 3. At least one piece of buggy software will drive
- you absolutely crazy.
-
- 4. Many of us will get faster modems, but they will
- never be quite fast enough.
-
- 5. There will be a maintenance release to Windows 95
- before the end of the year.
-
- 6. Many of us will utter the phrase, "Plug-and-Play,
- riiiiight!"
-
- 7. Many of us will say, at least once, "In hindsight,
- I should have spent a little more for..."
-
- 8. An equal number of us will say, at least as many
- times, "In hindsight, I could have spent a lot less
- for..."
-
- 9. Even if Bill Gates declares Darkness(tm), the new
- industry standard, many of us will insist on changing
- our own light bulbs.
-
- 10. GEnie's IBM-Compatible Computing RoundTables will
- remain the best resource for software, advice, tips,
- news, and lively discussions among discriminating
- computer users.

- Borland RoundTable
- ──────────────────
- Kick off the New Year by taking advantage of a great
- offer from Borland International. Borland has
- released trial versions of Sidekick and Dashboard for
- Windows. Both of these programs are available for
- downloading from Borland RoundTable Library 1 in File
- 5785 TRYSKW.ZIP and File 5786 TRYDB.ZIP,
- respectively.
-
- Sidekick for Windows is Borland's new version of the
- classic MS-DOS personal information manager.
- Dashboard is the popular, award-winning program
- launcher and alternative Windows shell that was
- formerly published by Hewlett-Packard.
-
- These programs have all the standard features -- they
- are 30-day trial versions you can convert to bonafide
- commercial software by calling Borland's order line
- to purchase them. You are then given a registration
- code to remove the 30-day limitation. This is the
- perfect way try before you buy!
-
- After trying Sidekick for Windows, Writer and GEnie
- member Barbara Paul says, "It's a program I've
- quickly become addicted to using. I don't know how I
- got along without it!"
-
- Visit the Borland RoundTable by typing the keyword
- BORLAND or moving to Page 765 at any GEnie prompt.

- The Multimedia Product Center is an extensive

- for IBM-compatible, Macintosh and Amiga, with an
- emphasis on multimedia (which encompasses a vast
- range of products), desktop video, and virtual
- reality (VR). It contains market trends and industry
- trade show information as well.
-
- Most, but not all, of those stories appeared in
- Cyberspace Report Weekly, which is published each
- Friday on the Multimedia RoundTable. Reading "CyPort"
- every week is a great way to stay abreast of new
- product releases and the computing industry in
- general. If you miss an issue, you can download that
- month's CyPort compilation file from the Multimedia
- Library the following month.
-
- However, when you need information on a specific
- company, product, or genre of products, searching the
- Multimedia Product Center is far more efficient than
- looking through back issues of Cyberspace Report
- Weekly. Full instructions and tips for quickly
