  2. continues to move more deeply into the Information
  3. Age for members. You now have dozens of magazines
  4. available online right at your fingertips!"

  6. This month we'll focus on those magazines AND
  7. newspapers you can reach online, all in the same
  8. convenient way.

  10. Up-To-Date and Old News Too!

  12. At press time, the news of Jeffrey Dahmer's death had
  13. just come out. You may have been interested in his
  14. horrible story, and wanted background from the time
  15. it first appeared in the news. A few hours at the
  16. library would have yielded the references, and maybe
  17. some of the stories. But a few minutes on GEnie could
  18. provide both references AND articles.

  20. With the full-text magazines and newspapers provided
  21. by the ARTIST system on GEnie, you can find the
  22. article right away.

  24. You can search these information lodes by entering
  25. either a page number or a keyword at any Genie
  26. prompt. All you need to know is the topic you're
  27. interested in. The system will do the rest.

  29. In the newspapers you can pick the option to begin
  30. your search, either headlines or the full text.
  31. You'll be prompted to enter words or phrases that
  32. describe your topic. If you like, you can limit your
  33. results to a particular range of years, dates, or a
  34. section of the paper. In the magazines, you simply
  35. enter words or phrases that describe your topic. You
  36. can limit your results to a particular range of years
  37. or exact publication dates.

  41. Whether in magazines or newspapers, the database will
  42. show you a list of the titles of the most recent
  43. articles on your topic. Pick from the list of
  44. articles, and get the complete text. The databases
  45. are offered through GEnie via Advanced Research
  46. Technologies' ARTIST(R) Gateway System.

  67. thousands of articles from the newspaper. Remember
  68. that "per search" charges apply in addition to
  69. GEnie's hourly connect rates, so be sure to choose
  70. the menu item that tells you the rates before
  71. beginning your search.

  73. With tens of thousands of articles available, you'll
  74. also want to put a little thought into your search
  75. before you access the newspaper or magazine.
  76. Otherwise you'll end up with a lot more information
  77. than you could ever use, and a much higher bill than
  78. you want.

  80. Growing Publications

  82. The magazines and newspapers offered grow constantly,
  83. and cover several previous years. Some go back to
  84. 1985, others go back to 1980 and even earlier, so you
  85. can search numerous years at once instead of having
  86. to plow through a paper index per year. On the other
  87. hand, you can limit your search to less than a year
  88. if you like. You're in control.

  92. find a favorite source there.
