  1. With the arrival of the new year, everyone tries to
  2. predict what will happen in the coming months and
  3. years. The staff and patrons of the Apple II
  4. RoundTable (A2 RT for short) are no exception. Here
  5. are some of our predictions for 1995 and beyond.
  6.  
  7. Donnie Grimes: I predict an Apple IIgs emulator for
  8. the PowerPC computers will come out in late 1995.
  9. This emulator will be designed by Steve Wosniak, and
  10. will coincide with his return to Apple as Chief
  11. Executive. The IIgs emulation mode on the PPC will
  12. run all Apple II applications, and will seem to be an
  13. Apple IIgs on Steroids, running at an effective 50
  14. MHz. (Okay, so this is more wishful thinking than a
  15. prediction. Sue me.)
  16.   
  17. Mark Kline: The next release of the Newton PDA will
  18. provide a very useful piece of hardware with a quick
  19. and efficient operating system. Now that Eric
  20. Shepherd has bought one of these guys, we'll be
  21. getting lots of software to provide connectivity with
  22. it for the IIgs. Users will find that the Newton will
  23. exchange data much more efficiently with the IIgs
  24. than with PCs and Macs. There will be a great
  25. increase in the market value of used IIgs systems as
  26. Newton owners pay a premium to get back the machines
  27. they abandoned in the past couple of years.
  28.   
  29. Michael Lutynski: Apple's new "Mac/OS" logo will be
  30. replaced with a design that is more appealing.
  31.   
  32. Harold Hislop: A famous Apple II vendor will begin
  33. selling the Blue Disk Card and IBM style drives as a
  34. package. This combination will be wildly successful.
  35.   
  36. Doug Pendleton: The Apple II series computers will
  37. see the most new commercial software and hardware
  38. released in recent years. I expect to see new
  39. releases of an SVGA Video card, an upgraded
  40. telecommunications program, an all new fax program
  41. for the IIgs and two new games. These will be highly
  42. successful. Oh, and Apple II computers will continue
  43. to be highly visible in education.
  44.   
  45. Gary Utter: Apple will continue to upgrade the
  46. Macintosh Operating System until it finally
  47. approaches the utility of the IIgs Operating System.
  48.   
  49. Joe Kohn: Someone will write a SLIP connection for
  50. the Apple IIgs and with the release of an SVGA video
  51. card, Mosaic for the IIgs will be introduced, making
  52. the Apple II a full-fledged contender on the World
  53. Wide Web.
