  5. This  update is for all Studio V2.16 users.  It mainly updates the
  6. current  Canon  profiles  for  the  color  management and provides
  7. additional  support for the latest Canon printers.
  8.  
  9. If  you  own  V2.14  or an older version of Studio, please contact
  10. your  distributor  for  an update.  The updates are also available
  11. for free download from the Internet (AmiNet).
  12.  
  13. As  usual,  because  of  a bug in the Commodore Installer program,
  14. it's  recommended  you  enable  the  default  Topaz 8 font on your
  15. system  during  installation.   The  installer  might not show all
  16. options  during  installation  with certain different sized fonts.
  17. This  is  a  general  recommendation  and  does  not only apply to
  18. Studio.
  19.  
  20. The  update  program will not alter your original Studio disks and
  21. will  update  the installed Studio software.  However, you do need
  22. the  first  of  your original Studio disk for running this install
  23. program.

  68. You must have a Studio CanonBJ-EC driver and CanonBJECPref program
  69. installed  in order to get the driver updated by this update disk.

  74. Introducing  with  Studio V2.16 you can find a "Fit Image on Page"
  75. menu  item.   You  can  use  this menu item to automaticly fit the
  76. wanted  picture  on  a  page.   The  picture size is maximized and
  77. centered on the page with correct aspect ratio.
  78.  
  79. The corresponding ARexx command is:  MAXFITIMAGE.  If there was an
  80. error,  RC  is  set  to  non-zero and PRTSTUDIO_RESULT returns the
  81. error  text.   Note  that  the  VERSION command now returns 4 from
  82. Studio.

  86.           New Canon profiles in Studio V2.16 added
  87.  
  88. Studio V2.16 now comes with many new profiles.  These new profiles
  89. are  based  on  Canon's  latest MS Windows 95 driver V3.93.  Using
  90. these  profiles  with Studio will give you identical colors in the
  91. output as with a PC using the Canon Win 95 driver.
  92.  
  93. How  good  are  Win 95 drivers adjusted?  It requires much work to
  94. get  the  colors  in the output of the printer adjusted correctly.
  95. So  far, there is no way to generate perfect profiles automaticly.
  96. Studio  does  ship with CMSScan wich is used to make profiles
  97. on  the Amiga.  Sometimes the results achived using profiles based
  98. on  CMSScan  are  better,  sometimes  worse  in  comparison to the
  99. current Windows 95 drivers.
  100.  
  101. You'll find that the profiles based on the Win 95 driver will give
  102. very  good  output  quality  especialy  when  based on new printer
  103. drivers  and  when  using  wide  spread print media.  It's easy to
  104. understand  that adjustment efforts are more focused on the usualy
  105. used print media like plain paper or Canon's High Resolution Paper
  106. HR 101.

  108. Older printers are usualy not adjusted with the quality achived by
  109. newer  calibration  software.   That's why you'll most likely find
  110. some  Win  95  profiles for older printers to be worse compared to
  111. the profiles generated by CMSScan on the Amiga.
  112.  
  113. But  basicly  things  are  rather  simple:  if you do not like the
  114. colors   in  the  output,  make  sure  you  did  use  the  correct
  115. settings/media/print head as mentioned in the profile.  If you are
  116. sure  the setup of Studio was done correctly, try a different
  117. profiles.   There are usualy several profiles for various settings
  118. and print media to choose from.

  120. IMPORTANT:   Note that the Win 95 driver can't be adjusted for the
  121. monitor gamma like Studio.  Because of this, set the Monitor gamma
  122. to  2.1 if you want identical colors in the output compared to the
  123. Win  95  driver.   This  note  should  help  users  working  in  a
  124. mulitplattform environment.
  125.  
  126. All  Studio profiles based on the Canon Win 95 driver are made for
  127. the  Floyd Steinberg Serpentine dither method.  This dither method
  128. is  very  similar  to  the one used by the Win 95 driver.  Use the
  129. Avail  gadget  in  the  Match...-window  for  a  list of installed
  130. profiles and their used dither method and print resolution.
  131.

  134. BJC  210,  250,  240  users should use the BJC 2xx or 210 profiles
  135. with  Studio.   The  CanonBJC  2xx printers are basicly compatible
  136. with  each  other.  For instance, you can use the BJC 250 profiles
  137. on  the  BJC  240.  Only the photo ink profiles of the BJC 240 and
  138. 250  can  not  be  used  with  the BJC 210 as this printer doesn't
  139. support the BC 06 Photo Ink cartridge.

  143. Canon  BJC  4000, 4100, 4200, 4300, 4550, 4650 profiles are mainly
  144. compatible to each other as long as the recommended print mode and
  145. print resolution in the profile is supported by the printer output
  146. module.
  147.  
  148. For instance, you can't use the Canon BJC 4xxx profiles asking for
  149. a  Fine+DMT  print mode on a BJC 4200.  These print modes are only
  150. supported  on  the new Canon BJC 4300 and 4650 with DMT print head
  151. BC  21e.   The  DMT  print mode profiles are one of the rare cases
  152. where  the new BJC 4300/4650 profiles do not work on the older BJC
  153. 4xxx  printers.   Because of this, the profile names do end with a
  154. uppercase D for easy identification in the Match window of Studio.
  155. Otherwise,  I can't think of a profile on a BJC 4xxx that can't be
  156. used on any other BJC 4xxx printer.

  158. So, check the print mode and recommended print head in the profile
  159. comment  before  using  it.   Make  sure  you do have the required
  160. settings  and  print  head  installed.  This should result in very
  161. good output.

  165. The  new  Canon  BJC  4300  and 4650 can print 720*360dpi.  Still,
  166. Studio  is  installed for 360*360dpi for these printers similar to
  167. the  MS  Windows 95 driver.  The reason for this is simple:  these
  168. new  printers  offer  a  feature  called Drop Modulation Technique
  169. (DMT).   Using  DMT  Studio can control the drop size of the print
  170. head.  Results achived using DMT and 360dpi are usualy much better
  171. than using the higher 720*360dpi resolution.
  172.  
  173. This is why the default recommendation for BJC 4300 and 4650 users
  174. is:  use 360*360dpi with DMT when possible.  IMPORTANT:  Make sure
  175. you  do  have  the  proper  DMT print head BC 21e (regular ink) or
  176. BC22e  (photo  ink)  when enabling DMT in the output configuration
  177. window.

  179. But if you don't like the recommendation, you can always switch to
  180. 720*360dpi and use other included profiles.

  191.                     interpolation routine could cause an overflow
  192.                     in case the profile values differs greatly.

  194.                     the fault mainly becomes visible in sudden
  195.                     color changes of a smoth gradient.
