  8. SerPrefs is a 100% replacement for the old Serial prefs util,
  9. It has a modern GUI with hotkeys, and extend far beyond
  10. the original's limitations.
  11.  
  12. SerPrefs extends several settings/options of the original,
  13. to do this effectivly a new serial.prefs format have been created.
  14. Currently SerPrefs only support the use of a serial device name,
  15. and Sharedmode. Other extensions will be added later.
  16.  
  17. The new serial.prefs can use prefs by old programs
  18. like the ORIGINAL "Sys:Prefs/Serial" found on the Workbench disks,
  19. and to convert from old to new simply load the old prefs into SerPrefs,
  20. then save it. And that's all you need to do! :-)
  21. Old serial.prefs software will still be able to read the new prefs,
  22. but unable to use the extra information stored.

  24. SerPrefs even show the version of your serial.device,
  25. and have all of the standard prefsmenu items the WB prefs utils have.
  26. Everything is in a single GUI with shortcuts, and is very easy to use.
  27. And you can choose the serial device to use, along with unit number etc.

  29. All normal (plus some extra) baud rates are supported,
  30. along with a buffer range that is more than enough.
  31. It also have separate output/input settings,
  32. for future support or special software.

  34. INSTALLATION
  35. Use the included Installer script, everything is automatic
  36. you only need to chose where to put the documentation.
  37. Even running SerPrefs with the SAVE option is done for you,
  38. so you don't have to start SerPrefs and resave the prefs :-)

  50. What's changed?

  53.          Updates of some catalogs, and added Spanish catalog.
  54.          Some minor internal improvements,
  55.          including better checking of bad/corrupt keyfiles.
  56.          Plus some other minor polishing of the SerPrefs code.
  57.          Updated the guide a bit.
  58.          Added info about the "Msi Software - Official US Registration Site"
  59.          It appears SerialPrefs refuse files by my SerPrefs (!)
  60.          I doublechecked my code and my SerPrefs follow the IFF85 standard,
  61.          plus it is fully compatible with Intuition Prefs regarding
  62.          the serial.prefs file, the shared mode is currently not
  63.          supported by Intuition, however since the byte used in the prefs
  64.          file is actually ignored (read SerPrefs dev docs for more info),
  65.          there is no problem, also the prefs saved have a id themselfs as
  66.          Type1 rather than Type0 as the original prefs,
  67.          this way a possible conflict will be avoided in i.e OS 3.5
  68.          I have also submitted a copy to Amiga Inc. for evaluation,
  69.          and Petro at Amiga Int. thanked me for notifying them.
  70.          I will continue to stay in touch with Amiga Inc/Int
  71.          about the progress of SerPrefs, and any OS 3.5 changes
  72.          will be handled as soon as I receive info on any new serial.prefs
  73.          standards, since the device name is stored as a IFF85 chunk
  74.          there is a good chance it will be adopted in a future Amiga OS.
  75.          This may be the last update/release for some time,
  76.          since I need time to focus on other projects as well.
  77.          However SerPrefs by Msi Software will still be fully supported
  78.          and development will resume when new things need to be added.
